Thumbtack provides a sophisticated, efficient, and effective framework for tutoring. For us, this was a much better option than the large impersonal prep companies that are not flexible about crafting approaches for different kinds of students. I would recommend Bootstrap very highly and will continue to use them throughout the coming months. A great discovery!

I had about lost hope for some of the so-called tutors until I found Elite tutoring and Harry, our tutor. In just six weeks of tutoring, Harry has helped my sons feel confident and ready for a test that includes algebra, arithmetic, and geometry. His explanations and encouragement made us feel comfortable and helped them fall in love with math again! Harry is definitely a gifted teacher and any student would thrive under his direction and patience!

I recently ran across a review about Quantum Prep and felt like I just had to share my tutoring story as well. I graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington Massachusetts. Lexington High School is a huge school. When I say huge, I mean I graduated with five hundred and eleven classmates. I was always proud to go to Lexington High, we were rated number 19 in 2014 by Newsweek in their “America’s Top Public Schools.” Luckily my class sizes were always small and it was not too hard to get help from the teacher. The first semester of my junior year I was taking five classes. I was looking into pre-med, so I took a lot of hard science classes that gave me at least two hours of homework a night. I also worked on the weekends, swam competitively, played in the jazz band and was active in my religious youth group. That year I was taking AP Chemistry as a challenge and knew I was going to have a tough time with it. My teacher, Mrs. Compton, was great! She explained everything really well and broke it down for the class. I just really couldn’t get everything in my notebook and in my head with enough time to move on to the next topic, so I’d lose information here and there, making it really hard to answer test questions. I got the first F in my entire academic career on the first quiz. I’m one of those people who expect a lot from themselves, and I expected A’s. I felt really bad about myself for the first two quizzes because I wasn’t coming even close to what I knew I could do. In addition, because I was spending so much time working on AP Chemistry, my other classes were suffering. And as a prospective pre-med student, I was afraid that because I challenged myself I wasn’t going to get into the colleges I wanted. That's when I called Quantum Prep for help. As soon as I had the first tutoring session I felt a little more reassured. We went over my quizzes and homework assignments and my tutor quickly picked up what I was missing and how to keep me focused. I felt much more confident walking into class every day. My tutor figured out how I best learn and we started laughing and making jokes as we did “stereochemistry”. Yes, he figured out within one session that I learn better with music playing in the background and even knew why! The real difference was that he didn’t just teach me material, he taught me how to learn for myself. It was a game-changer in how I approached school and learning in general. So while he was teaching me one class, I was using the learning techniques he taught me to improve my grades in all of my classes. He even patiently sat through temper tantrums and low points. So what happened after I called Quantum Prep? The next quiz I took, I got thirty points higher than the last. The first exam; I got a B+. I went on to graduate in a science heavy degree, and got into my first choice for college and graduated with a degree in Neuropsychology. I highly suggest using Quantum Prep for any kind of tutoring. I had such a wonderful experience and have used the lessons I learned from him in so many different aspects of my life, from studying at the university to job experiences. Thank you Quantum Prep!

I strongly recommend Roy as a Math tutor. The last proper Math class I took was in high school, so taking the GMAT as a college senior was going to be a challenge. Roy took me through the basics of the Math I needed to know, and then tricks to save time and cut down my mistakes. He did this all in a manner that was easy to follow. In the end my Quant score was way better than what I was getting on early practice tests.

Glenn is an excellent math tutor and I highly recommend him! His attention to detail, impartial attitude and pride what he does make him an inspirational tutor. Glenn met with my son and me and analyzed my son's performance, provided additional practice problems and basic guidance steps for him to follow. In my opinion having a foundational understanding of middle school math really helps pave the way for future success in high school and college. I can't stress the importance of making sure that your child has a really solid math foundation and Glenn was capable to achieve that with my son. My son's grades improved immediately but what is most important his confidence levels improved as well.

We were recommended to use Lisa by a friend who raved about how Lisa helped her daughter get into the college she wanted. We were apprehensive to try remote tutoring via Skype instead of in person because we thought our son would have focus issues but it turned out to be the exact opposite. Lisa is an amazing tutor / teacher and really held our sons attention. From the time he started to the time he took his test his score went up over 200 points. We can't thank you enough.

About

I tutor math, such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, charts and graphs, etc. Along with the subject matter, I can teach test-taking strategies and how to approach questions and problems effectively. Most importantly, I strive to build confidence in students, because confidence is key. Up until last year, I tutored many adults who were seeking to earn GEDs (although my tutoring is not limited to adults). I teach, tutor, and lecture on myriad sub-topics of financial literacy. I have a keen ability to explain complicated financial and financial-related concepts so anyone can understand them. I am adept in all aspects of personal finance, so I can cover just about everything, such as budgeting, savings and investments, credit building and/or credit repair, life insurance, etc. You get the point. My approach is generic. I do not give specific advice on either investing or buying life insurance. I am not licensed to do so, but I am most capable of teaching you what you need to know, including the kinds of professionals you should seek out when ready to do business. I possess top-notch language and writing skills. I am especially able to assist with paper writing, such as work reports, white papers, term papers, essays, written homework, etc., and of course, spelling and proper grammar. I believe that "chemistry" between student and tutor is very important to maximize results. It's not only beneficial for student motivation, it also facilitates my quest to understand how the student learns and, therefore, to teach accordingly. Getting the student to the correct answers is not nearly as important as getting her/him to understand how s/he got that correct answer. For your confidence and comfort, I am happy to offer up to TWO HOURS, AT NO CHARGE and without further obligation, for us [me, student and parent (if applicable)] to get acquainted before deciding. A little conversation, a little tutoring, and no cost. I hold a BS, an MBA and an MS in Finance. How can I help YOU?

Jimmy is a fantastic tutor. He informed himself about the Australian Curriculum and was prepared for my year 5 and year 11 kids from the first day on. He explained the tasks thoroughly and always had examples referencing to music. This created an easy tool for my musician son to understand math and enjoy the teaching. Thanks to Jimmy both kids are up-to-date with their math school work after 8 weeks out of school. Jimmy is kind but also focused on the outcome. Great experience

Ihab is quite possibly the best math tutor I have ever had. He is enthusiastic, encouraging, and sharp. He is able to adjust his teaching style to fit the learning style of the student. His years of experience allow him to teach his students material in a way most tutors are unable to. 5 stars.

From these varied experiences, I've learned the winning formula for great tutoring: patience, understanding, creativity, organization, and a strong knowledge of the subject matter. I graduated from Tufts University with a PhD in mechanical engineering. My areas of expertise include algebra, trigonometry, geometry, calculus, and statistics, from high school to university level and business analysis for MBA students. I also have experience in tutoring SAT math, SAT physics, GRE, and GMAT. Teaching has always been my passion. I have been teaching home-school students in math, statistics and physics since 2004. I have a very strong science and math background - something that many students struggle with. The real beauty of teaching comes from the realization that each student is a keyhole, and the best tutors are the ones who can shape their teaching keys to fit the student. This is a life-long learning process for tutors, so dedication to teaching and a love of learning are essential qualities. There is no better joy than seeing when the key fits and the light goes on in the student's head, and you realize that they now understand a concept that was previously difficult for them to grasp.
