Bootstrap Tutors (Best of Thumbtack 2015, 2016)

    (16 reviews)

All of our tutors have an extensive background both in the subjects themselves and in teaching those subjects. We design truly customized lesson plans for students and are familiar with all of the areas that often give trouble. As one example of the sort of tutor we offer, the founder, Dr. Ryan Judkins, has a Ph.D. in English and has taught more than two dozen college courses and over a hundred individual tutees (many on a long-term basis for two or more years). We love to work one-on-one with students and watch how they progress. It's not something we get to do too much of when we teach more traditional courses and it's one of the best parts of tutoring.

    Bt Associates

    (10 reviews)

Thumbtack - BEST of 2016 Way to go! John R., your service has been awarded a Best of 2016 award due to your excellent customer reviews — for the second year in a row. Congrats! It's no surprise. Your customers love working with you! Add this Best of 2016 badge to your personal website to direct visitors and new customers to your award. It's a great way to share your success and stand out from the crowd As each student is different; learning sessions are tailored to give the most help with an approach to teach the student rather than just the subject. Whenever possible, practical application to real life situations are presented. Achieving success in math and/or science is not something that is impossible. Lessons focus on making sure students have a clear understanding of math and/or science fundamentals and content. I encourage my students to keep a journal of subject matter that they are not comfortable with. In this manner, the sessions quickly focus on what will directly help the student. There is no need to spend valuable time going over what is already understood. In having one-on-one contact, it can be quickly learned where the student is having difficulties. As those areas are identified, they become high priority to be resolved, so that future subject matter will not be affected by a lack of understanding.

    Around the Clock Tutoring

    (8 reviews)

I have several years of tutoring experience working with students with learning and physical disabilities (including dyslexia) in developmental courses as well as college level courses including preparatory Mathematics, Business Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Research & Methods, QMB, Economics, and Psychology and Nursing Statistics courses using SPSS. My main focus has been college and university students. I have also tutored Mathematics courses in Barry University. I currently teach Mathematics at Barry University. I have tutored professionally since 2009 as I started out as a tutor in Broward College Central Campus. I have a B.S. in Statistics, B.A. in Economics, minor in Mathematics, and a certificate in Latin American & Caribbean Studies. For my B.S.in Statistics I took combined undergraduate and graduate level Statistics courses. I recently graduated with my M.S. in Economics with a 4.0 GPA. I also have experience tutoring students face-to-face, online, one-on-one, and on a small-group basis. In addition, I have tutored students in graduate level courses that were pursuing a ph.D. in nursing, MBA, and Master in Economics. I am familiar with statistical software packages as well including SPSS, STATA, Minitab, and APA style to report statistical results. I am also fully fluent in Spanish and English. Hablo español. My goal when working with students is to focus on the topic/material at hand at the student's own pace. I look forward to working with committed students. I have worked with students from different universities including FAU, Nova, FIU, BC and Miami-Dade College. If you have a question about my background and credentials don't hesitate to ask.

    Jimmy Nguyen

    (6 reviews)

What makes me truly different from other tutors and mentors is that I am focused on both knowledge or skill mastery for myself so that I am transferring the best knowledge or skills to someone else. I always start with the most abstract level of a concept, then I get to understanding what the client already understands, and then link the concept with what the client knows in order to allow them to have a concrete connection in their mind. Seeing people learn from their mistakes and move forward in life. There is nothing more rewarding than that. Even if I had all the money I ever wanted, I'd still find this vastly more rewarding and would continue to help people move forward.

Make Learning Fun Again! With The Tutoring Comedian

    (5 reviews)

One of the main things that makes my service a cut above the rest is my ability to combine comedy with learning. I am a tutor, but I am also an experienced Stand-up Comedian- I've been doing comedy for 6 years. I find that the combination of funny/education makes learning more enjoyable and material more memorable! Background: I was a Pre-Veterinary student at ASU with a major in Animal Physiology/Behavior while also studying a mix of other academics: Mathematics, Communications, Writing, and Cellular Neurobiology. I often tutor my fellow classmates as well as younger and older grade levels. I have experience caring for and tutoring children/teens/young adults with learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Speech Impediments, and others. I do consider myself a mentor as well as a tutor, I like to set good examples and implement positive study skills for students. I take pride in guiding students through academic processes. Witnessing the "ah-hah" moment. Knowing that a student understands a concept which they were previously baffled by-- and now intuitively know how to approach and complete the assignment/challenge in front of them. Being a kid is hard, but growing up with 3 older sisters, I was fortunate to be guided and mentored by 3 noble and graceful ladies! so I enjoy being a mentor especially to younger girls and teens.
