I have been taking lessons with Bulent for about 8 months now and have really enjoyed it. He is friendly, encouraging, flexible with scheduling and a great teacher. If there is something that I find difficult or cannot understand, he finds new ways to teach it so I can improve.

Julie is an awesome voice teacher. My 9 yr old daughter has grown to love music very much after taking lessons with Julie. Her voice has become professional and she had gained much confidence to perform solo in many concerts. I am very happy that we found Julie.

Since I've started working with Sybil, I have more time to practice my conversation skill. She addressed the issues right away during our lessons. Moreover, her delivery method is amazing. Noot so rigid, no rush, and always offering any suggestions necessary to improve my language. I do enjoy it.

I would highly recommend Brad as a guitar teacher. He has experience teaching students at a range of skill levels and takes time to understand a player's specific musical interests. He has a flexible approach, offering lessons over Skype and making himself available for questions in between lessons. I will keep working with Brad in the future and any other guitar players in his area should do the same.

Amanda patiently guided me through the basics of piano for 2 years. She answered every question calmly and thoughtfully, from the basic "where does my hand go again?" to "who invented the piano?" Every lesson was tailored to my needs and ability. I never felt intimidated by her, and she was always a pleasure to work with. It's cathartic playing piano, since it's another way to connect your mind and body. I highly recommend taking lessons with her! I bet she'd work well with children, too.

Lenae has been my voice teacher for the past 3 years. I am one of her adult students and starting as an adult wasn't easy, but she has really taken the time to help me gain confidence in myself as a singer. She has always gone out of her way to fit my lesson in verses my work schedule. She teaches teens and young students voice and piano , it's nice to see them play and sing at recitals. I thank her for all she has done and continues to do encouraging me in my music

I'm having a wonderful experience with the teacher Shane. Lessons are enjoyable and I can see my improvement. After the five weeks with one to one lessons I joined a group of other four students and I can say now it is even more stimulating. Strongly recommended for beginners because classes really help you to learn the basics correctly.

Jeanne responded quickly to the request, was a very good communicator, and through the first two guitar lessons with my daughter, things seem to be going very well! I greatly appreciate her willingness to travel a fair distance to come to our home and conduct the guitar lessons. Highly recommended!

My son started taking drum lessons a short time ago. Kris is so kind and patient with my son. He is all about positive feedback and I love that. He is already making progress. He wouldn't be able to do this without the constant positive feedback.

I started private guitar lessons with Bob Wolfman a year and a half ago, with the hopes of getting past a guitar playing rut I’d been stuck in for a few years. I felt I had reached a plateau and that I wasn’t progressing much since I switched out of the music program at UMASS Lowell. Within my first few lessons with Bob I was already progressing more than I had with ten years of prior instruction! In my first three months of lessons with Bob, I was very impressed by his ability to simultaneously cater to my direct interests (music theory and improvisation) while exposing me to concepts I didn’t realize I needed to work on to get there (sight-reading, aural skills, chordal arrangements). We quickly set up a lesson plan and goals geared towards getting me where I wanted to be. I was so happy with the results that I eagerly enrolled into his year-long “Apprenticeship Program”. This program allowed us to plan my curriculum and keep me on track (and I had a realistic practice schedule that I could stick with). Last year, I progressed so much that I decided to start my second year in the program. I’m really glad that I did!! One of several things that separates Bob from a lot of other instructors is his focus on his students. He always sticks to his commitment to making me a better guitarist and musician, even if that means giving me extra time when he has it. And with his 30+ years of experience as a teacher, he knows how to personalize my lessons in a way that works for me. I highly recommend him for people just starting out on guitar, bass, etc., or for those like me who just need a kick start to get out of a rut. I am reaching my goals to becoming an accomplished pro guitarist very soon. Tyler Schmitt Apprenticeship Program Guitar student with Bob Wolfman

My daughter has been taking voice and piano lessons from Christie for nearly 2 years. These lessons have been a tremendous help to develop her vocal range and confidence. my daughter won the award for 'best vocal' at a recent competition held in Shrewsbury, MA for her age group. Christie's classes have been very methodical and easy to follow. She stresses on practice, hard work and sacrifice to attain the goals that are set for my daughter. We are very happy with the results that Christie is able to get from my daughter. We really appreciate Christie's classes and my daughter will continue to use them them.

I can't recommend Jacob highly enough. Not only is he a super nice guy, but he is an excellent teacher. He is patient, dedicated, and very talented. He really listened to what I wanted to get out of lessons, and catered his lesson plans to my desires and goals. He even put together some really helpful videos for me (on his own time)! so I could continue learning at my own pace. Jacob is also very flexible with scheduling. I couldn't be happier with my choice to higher him!

We weren’t sure our 6 year old son was ready to start piano lessons but we thought we would try it. Liana is so professional and treats him like a little grown up. As a result, he acts like a little adult with her and focuses on what she asks of him. In three months, he has learned the notes on the treble and bass clef, is learning the values of the notes and actually tinkers around at home with creating songs. I recommend giving Liana an opportunity to show you what she’s capable of teaching. To top it off, she is a very nice and kind woman.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
