We're so happy we chose Mark to document our wedding. He's very easy to talk to, happily answered all of our questions when we were talking to different providers initially, and, most importantly, took MANY outstanding pictures for us. As a one man operation, Mark was efficient and also very easy-going. While taking candid photos during the reception, he never seemed to be in the way, but I never saw him without his cameras in-hand, always taking photos, and keeping an eye out for an opportunity - and there were plenty! Where Mark truly shines is when he works with the wedding party and bride/groom and is able to stage them a bit. We loved all the candid photos he took, but it was the bride/groom/wedding party series of photos, in particular, that Mark completely blew us away. We are so grateful to Mark for the amazing photos he captured for us on what was the most important/fun/exciting day of our lives and we're so glad Mark could be a part of it! Definitely, highly recommend!

I am highly recommending Paradiso Photography. Jeanne took great pictures of our wedding! She is professional & likeable. The pictures she took throughout the day included pre-wedding, ceremony, & reception. She always seemed to be in the right place to capture the candid photo throughout the day. She also excelled at capturing great shots of traditional wedding pictures such as Alice escorted down the aisle, first kiss, multiple group pictures of family & friends etc..

We hired Jeremiah to capture our wedding day. From the moment we met him, he has been nothing but professional and kind. He was very observant and always made sure to get a good shot, but never obtrusive. He was quick with direction and made sure to notice every detail. Jeremiah and his assistant Nicole were also such troopers in the pouring rain during pictures! We have since received our photos and couldn't be happier. Thumbtack was very helpful and we are so happy we chose such an amazing photographer! Thanks again!

Mike had a great sense of humor and made everyone feel at ease, which is notable since we were navigating a personal ceremony in a tight space . He shot exactly what I wanted for the wedding ceremony and reception, worked well with the photographer, and sent me the footage in a timely fashion. It was a pleasure working with him!

Jon was awesome as our DJ for our wedding! He was so easy to work with, easy to get a hold of and communicate with. He stayed pretty on point with the type of music we were looking for. He kept our dance floor full and played music that all ages could enjoy. One of my biggest complaints about some DJs is the music is "choppy", it doesn't flow from one song to the next especially if it's of a different genre but Jon was able to transition easily without there being that awkward "what the heck is this song" moment. I highly recommend using him!

Awesome DJ. She did our wedding at the Hawthorne Hotel, and was easy to work with and delivered. She tailored to all of our request. We listed some songs and she did great filling up the playlist with the type of music we requested. She was considerate knowing that planning a wedding takes a lot and working with her was not a burden at all. She even took the time to let a friend's child sing a solo at our wedding. She was accommodating to this request even though it was given with less than 24 hours notice. Would definitely hire again.

Dennise is an amazing photographer. This was the first time we were taking professional pictures with our dogs so we were a little nervous of what to expect with them, but Dennise managed it awesome. Dennise even brought them a toy that kept them attentive during the photo shoot and gave it to our dogs as a gift after! So nice. She found amazing spots to take our family pictures, and after we saw the final photos, we loved every single one of them. Definitely recommend her.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.
