My partner and I were planning a small wedding on the beach in Barnstable and needed an photographer. We wanted someone who had a strong portfolio, credible experience and understood how to capture emotions and human interactions in photographs. We got all that and more with Mark Wilson. Mark arrived early for our event and did not stop taking photos for over 4 hours. The result was a portfolio of nearly 600 absolutely stunning images delivered to us in less than two weeks. Did I mention that all the images were stunningly beautiful? Mark captured the feeling and emotion of our beach wedding and backyard reception. He photographed intimate details, panoramic views and human-scale moments that we will cherish for years to come. If there was any hesitance on our part to hire Mark, it was the fact that he had never photographed two men getting married. How could we be sure that he would be comfortable with us and approach the assignment with a sensitivity to our desire for images that capture our day without being awkward or not respecting the way in which we interact? This was no "Daddy's Little Princess Bride" at this wedding. Our concern was unfounded. Mark was polite and considerate, and captured our joyful celebration in a dignified manner, providing us with a portfolio of images that we are proud to share with our friends and family. Everyone that has seen the photographs has commented that they are "the best wedding pictures I have ever seen." I'm not exaggerating. They really say that. Mark Wilson is a good person and a talented photographer that I can recommend without reservation.

Incredible. Decided to hire Ione for karaoke for our large wedding rehearsal dinner, which was a bit of a risk, but it turned out to be excellent. She was incredibly accommodating and helpful with the guests. Our guests had a excellent time. 100% would recommend to people.

Such a pleasure to have! Judge Gladys was very responsive and very accommodating. You can see how much she cares just looking into her eyes. She met with us prior and was able to put us at ease. She wants to make every wedding special and personal to the bride and groom. She worked with us in making it the ceremony we wanted- until the very last minute. Highly recommended.

We first met Bob when he photographed our wedding, 16 1/2 years ago! He did a fantastic job then - especially great at candid photos, and made everyone feel comfortable and at ease. We have many beautiful, artistic shots from that day. We had an outdoor ceremony, and indoor reception, and he was comfortable with both settings…even shots on the beach. When looking for someone to take some photos at our older son's Bar Mitzvah, I thought immediately of Bob and tracked him down! He took photos of that day for us, too. Always very professional, great at what he does, and especially great at getting in the "action" and getting that shot. We highly recommend him!

Can I rate more than five stars?!?! I cannot express how absolutely amazing Jeremiah is! He was the glue that kept my wedding together. He is an AWESOME photographer, but at the same time was more than willing to help us get our stuff together the day of, whether it was a stuck zipper on a bridesmaid's dress or by making me laugh when I was stressed before the ceremony. This gent (and the rest of his team, of course) just blew me away!!

Tiffany was amazing!! My makeup and my bridesmaids makeup came out absolutely beautiful! She was super patient and understanding and even went out of her way to research and purchase additional hypoallergenic products for me because my eyes are very sensitive. On the wedding day when another guest decided last minute they also needed their makeup done, she made time for them and still got us all ready on schedule. She is very sweet and super accommodating. I couldn’t recommend her more highly!!!

Working with Christian was an absolute dream. He was there in all moments but never felt intrusive; he has an eye for beautiful moments while making them feel as natural as possible; he works with your comfort level and ensures your happiness. We got a sneak peek back a week after our wedding and the photos are beautiful. We can't wait to see the rest, and highly recommend Christian as a photographer.

Jon was a pleasure to work with, from pre-wedding meetings and planning through our wedding ceremony and reception. He was very professional, and in addition to doing our dinner and reception music, he also helped out with a sound system and support for our ceremony location. He kept all of our guests on the dance floor, and left everyone demanding more music at the end! We would definitely recommend JAG Music & Entertainment for anyone looking for music for their wedding!

Kim was amazing! From the moment that we spoke on the phone I knew she was the right person to marry us. When we met her we were instantly at ease. She even calmed my nerves about the wedding and assured me of the importance of the day. The best part was that at the ceremony it felt like she knew us for years and we were so comfortable. When she sent me the ceremony script tears of joy flowed and it felt like she had known is forever. I highly recommend Matrimonies by Mimi. Kim is truly amazing.

Words cannot describe how overjoyed we are with AeroSnap Creations. Mark took the time to get to know us and the vision we'd worked so hard to achieve, and brought our ideas to life. He has a fresh, original outlook that comes through in every photograph. Mark was communicative, friendly, punctual, professional, and patient with even the youngest guests. The wedding party adored his sense of humor. The "must-have" shots are stunning, but what really impressed us were the candids; he captured the most precious moments while blending seamlessly into the background. Without a doubt, our wedding album will be unparalleled in both quality and originality.

Awesome DJ. She did our wedding at the Hawthorne Hotel, and was easy to work with and delivered. She tailored to all of our request. We listed some songs and she did great filling up the playlist with the type of music we requested. She was considerate knowing that planning a wedding takes a lot and working with her was not a burden at all. She even took the time to let a friend's child sing a solo at our wedding. She was accommodating to this request even though it was given with less than 24 hours notice. Would definitely hire again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
