RB Contractor Inc. finished our basement project that included drywall finishing, shower installation, bathroom flooring and wall reconstruction. Remberto and his team did a tremendous job of finishing the drywall, taping, mudding and sanding. The team also custom built our shower with tile and put in the tile flooring as well. The completed job far exceeds our expectations and Remberto and his team were professional, timely and did an amazing job. We highly recommend this company for any basement remodeling/finishing.

Ryan was hired to install ceramic tile for my guest bathroom. Not only did he arrive the same day I requested a quote, he was able to start the job almost immediately and finish the same day. My wife and I were so impressed that we are looking to hire him for more projects. Outstanding service at a reasonable price.

We absolutely loved working with José and his team to tile our basement floor with ceramic wood-looking tile, expose a brick wall, and install new toilet and a wall-mounted sink. He works FAST and within budget. Extra things we needed done were added at very reasonable extra expense ($40-60 to repair an unexpected drywall hole behind a mirror). His team does beautiful work, and José made sure every bit of trash or demo material was taken away. They also went above and beyond to make things look nice. For example, I don't think they charged me extra when they plastered around our baseboards and it looks soooo much better! They also patched a little hole left by a past electrician's job. They took extra good care of our space as if it was their own home. We also like that he respected our desire to further finish our space ourselves ( we are ok with doing our own painting). I can't say enough good things. We will definitely hire José and Brandon Contracting for our next job.

Gio's Builders did a wonderful job removing my textured ceiling; installing recessed lighting, crown molding, chair rail, and laminate and vinyl tile flooring; and painting my condo. He explained the best way to do things and why and was very responsive to concerns.

I first hired Marvin to paint and frame 44 newly installed wooden windows in my historic row home. Because I was so impressed with his professionalism and superb quality of work, I contracted him for additional services including porcelain tile installation, surfacing and reframing a roof deck, and completing the finishes of a previous contractor. If you want to hire a competent company that takes price in their work and delivers high quality services, Baiza Construction Inc. should be your choice.

We’ve had PCS complete numerous projects at our home including a new roof (including metal roofing), siding, gutters, a beautiful new custom rail system for the main stairway in addition to drywall/tile/lighting work due to a flood. Mark has always been courteous, professional and easy to work with as his company continually provided a quality product at a great value. We would highly recommend PCS for your next home project.

We purchased our dream home in August. Knowing we would have to replace the roof at sometime in the future. We hoped to have at least another year or so. But no such luck. To make a long story short. It started leaking when we had the first hard rain. I made appointments with 5 different roofing contractors. Jeff Borman was the third and by far the most professional and knowledgeable. And you have to understand our roof is not for the faint of heart. 7100sf of peaks, slopes and valleys. Which he had all the info on due to a application that is available to his company. He sat down with us and showed us the roofing tile that was available through his company. (All top quality) After that he and his team leader of one of his crew. Tackled the roof. The other 4 companies attempted to sell us new sky lights. Jeff on the other hand was able to look at the glass and tell us the date on them and reassured us that it was unnecessary to replace them just to put new sealant. The only thing he suggested. And we totally agreed with. Was that our gutters and downspouts were inefficient for the major slopes of the roof. We explained to him that we had others coming to do bids and if he would put together a proposal and email it by the next day we would let him know. He was not pushy and only expressed his interested in tackling our roof. The proposal was a extremely reasonable price. After getting 2 more bids. And some very unpleasant encounters with pushy salesmen. We called Jeff and accepted his company's bid. We can't say enough about how pleased we are with Jeff and his crews transformation of our roof and gutters. Our home is now more beautiful than the first day we saw it. The professionalism of Jeff, crew and gutter installers are unbeatable. And after some of the very pricey proposals from his competition. We could not recommend them enough.

The 5th Genration Group recently did a minor renovation on our condo; the quality of the drywall and finishing work was excellent. The staff was neat and professional. The group also did an outstanding ceramic tile installation on an existing fireplace. We will definitely work with them in the future.

"Wow", would describe the work by GWS. I begin with their promptness-they said they'd be at my house at 7:30am, they were knocking at 7:20am. Second, their quickness-I was promised a 2-day job, the entire 13x14 dining room was tiled and grouted in 1 day! Lastly, their attention to detail-they were able to evenly match the new tile with the existing tile in the adjoining room, despite roadblocks that popped up. I would definitely use them again. Pride in their work results in customer satisfaction!

Rick did a great job fixing up my house and getting it ready to sell. He was wonderful to work with - remotely even, as I had already moved out and wasn't on sight daily. And the quality of his work was outstanding; painting, hardwood floor repairs, and tiling my basement. His fees were very reasonable and he went above and beyond to do a quality job and get it done in a tight timeframe because that's what I needed. Would not hesitate to hire him again!

Mr. Morales did two jobs for me. In each case, his workmanship was outstanding. One job consisted of rebuilding walls that were dismantled for basement waterproofing. Te second job was a more straightforward drywall and dryer ductwork job. I recommend Mr. Morales unreservedly.

If you are looking for a timely and very thorough inspection, down to every outlet and number of tiles required to be replaced on the roof, and a quick turn-around, then Rick Stough fits this criteria!! :) I appreciated the e-mailed report and pictures, however I personally would have prefered a binder, complete with the report and pictures integrated into each area of discussion.

The kitchen was remodeled by g and e contractors. My designers-Dave and Glen-- were very knowledgable and wonderful to work with. Glen drew out my kitchen, and allowed me to really see it ahead of time. Dave was there whenever I had concerns and issues. My kitchen looks great now--tremendous expansion through my living room, new windows for a spacious view, quality all wood cabinets, 12 by 12 ceramic tiles in white, all looks simply marvelous. Paul and his team were true craftsman

I worked with All Work on a bathroom renovation job. Brian's crew fixed some plumming issues, and installed a new cast iron tub and tile. His workers were very neat and friendly. They did quality work. I trust Brian to give an honest assessment of what needs to be done to fix a job properly. He will not take short cuts.

Erick and his crew did a great job on our gutter repair. The contractor we had hired before them to replace the roof and gutter did a terrible job with the pitch of the gutter and water ended up pooling in the gutter. The previous contractor was difficult to reach and we were facing issues with water spilling out onto the front of our house and soaking the brick. We finally decided to reach out to find someone to repair our gutter. Erick came out the next day after we messaged him with his crew. They then completed the job very efficiently and professionally. The cost of the repair was reasonable. We ended up hiring Erick again to help us with another roofing issue that the previous contractor caused (they didn't seal the sides of the roof correctly so we had water in our ceiling!). We would hire Erick and his crew again. They did a fantastic job.

Carlos Flores and Jose Briones are unbelievably talented craftsmen, and phenomenal people. Their work ethic is unparalleled. They show up early, they work until they cannot work anymore, and they do so with a constant smile on their face. I have hired Carlos and Jose to do countless jobs at my house, including building a roof, a deck, fixing drywall, electrical, plumbing and even landscaping. There is literally nothing that these individuals cannot do. They not only know how to do a variety of jobs, but they do each one with the utmost care. I have also recommended these individuals to friends and family, and all have said the same- that they are blown away at the speed at which they work, and the care with which they approach each task. I am thankful to have met Carlos and Jose, and will never have to look for a contractor again!

Kenneth Kelley is a pleasure to work with and I have found that to be very unusual for a contractor :-). He has a thorough knowlege of home improvement and did a great job in building a front porch on my rowhouse, a shed in my backyard and adding a beautiful marble tile backsplash to my kitchen. Let's not forget my new roof and kitchen shelves. He gave realistic time/cost estimates and actually met or beat them. I have referred him to several of my friends and family and they have also been very satisfied with his work.

Alex and his crew were extremely professional and did a great job from start to finish. We had our master bathroom completely done and they came in, did the demo and installation of our tile work. My husband and I shopped around for a contractor we could trust in our home, and we are glad we picked Alex. We'll highly recommend them to family and friend. Great Job!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
