Jerry was very responsive in checking on some roof problems I had with my house in Baltimore. He very clearly explained the problems along with future potential problems and we worked out a solution to fix everything. Jerry fixed everything in a timely manner, showed up when he said he would, and was great about sending me pictures of everything. Definitely keeping his information in my phones for next time.

This is an A-1 contractor who's extremely professional and delivers Superior work. I have a new roof that was installed today and it's absolutely beautiful. Ryan was on the job with his employees to make sure that everything got done in a timely manner and he worked with me on the price and even did some extra work on the roof that was not originally anticipated. I was so pleased that I decided to hire him for additional work on my property. Looking forward to working with him again. Thanks Ryan! I truly appreciate all of your hard work and thoroughness.

This company did several projects for me. The projects ranged from fixing/patching my roof to cleaning out my garage. I would give them an excellent review, very accomodating in everyway. Pricing is very fair. Five stars for sure :)

We are so happy to have found Marvin and his crew at Baiza Construction! It's been a year since Marvin completed the project of turning our fixer-upper into a beautiful home and we couldn't be happier. The renovations were extensive: they knocked down a wall and installed a modern kitchen, moved the location of a bathroom and gave us an amazing walk-in shower, sanded and stained hard-wood floors, painted, gave the house a new roof and all new windows, while insulating everything well so we will save money on heating and A/C in the future! They did a lot more, but too much to list. We keep going back to Marvin to do additional projects as needed. Marvin has been very good to us, he does great work at very fair prices. He's also a really nice guy who really wants to make sure we are happy with the results. The only problem? He's so sought after, it may be hard for him to find the time to respond. I think a lot of bad reviews are due to him just being so busy. My suggestion to him is to hire an administrative assistant to help with all the project scheduling, invoices, and other boring office stuff that I think he doesn't like to do. Also, maybe find a way to clone himself ;)

We purchased our dream home in August. Knowing we would have to replace the roof at sometime in the future. We hoped to have at least another year or so. But no such luck. To make a long story short. It started leaking when we had the first hard rain. I made appointments with 5 different roofing contractors. Jeff Borman was the third and by far the most professional and knowledgeable. And you have to understand our roof is not for the faint of heart. 7100sf of peaks, slopes and valleys. Which he had all the info on due to a application that is available to his company. He sat down with us and showed us the roofing tile that was available through his company. (All top quality) After that he and his team leader of one of his crew. Tackled the roof. The other 4 companies attempted to sell us new sky lights. Jeff on the other hand was able to look at the glass and tell us the date on them and reassured us that it was unnecessary to replace them just to put new sealant. The only thing he suggested. And we totally agreed with. Was that our gutters and downspouts were inefficient for the major slopes of the roof. We explained to him that we had others coming to do bids and if he would put together a proposal and email it by the next day we would let him know. He was not pushy and only expressed his interested in tackling our roof. The proposal was a extremely reasonable price. After getting 2 more bids. And some very unpleasant encounters with pushy salesmen. We called Jeff and accepted his company's bid. We can't say enough about how pleased we are with Jeff and his crews transformation of our roof and gutters. Our home is now more beautiful than the first day we saw it. The professionalism of Jeff, crew and gutter installers are unbeatable. And after some of the very pricey proposals from his competition. We could not recommend them enough.

These guys are awesome!!! I needed a new roof on my investment property's garage and some brick work. They were the most responsive and reasonable contractors I spoke with, being a realtor and an electrician i am familiar with contracting, and these guys were some of the best guys I've worked with. I had tons of questions and the were knowledgeable and full of advice. Without a doubt I will be hiring them for my next flip or buy and hold property

from the first time that I met Jeff I was very impress from our first meeting. I met with four company on my roof none did what Jeff did which was go on my roof check out and did measurements. My roof was scheduled to be done when we had seven days of rain. During that time Jeff always contacted me of any chances in our appointment or scheduled time. I really appreciate that He was very professional and any questions that I asked he answered. Jeff and the team that did my roof were on time and did a great job. Thank you

The owner, Phillip, was quick to respond and thoroughly answered all of my questions in the weeks leading up to the project. Their pricing was fair and competitive and he included a 25 year transferrable warranty with the new roof (other contractors offered non transferrable 6-10 year warranties). There was some initial miss-communication about including a skylight installation in the project and he assumed it was a replacement rather than new installation, but he honored his original quote and included the installation at no additional cost. His team promptly returned to repair a leak in one of the skylights a few weeks later and everything has been leak-free since. Overall very good experience and would recommend him to others needing full roof replacements.

The contract was signed Thursday 2/8/18 and the roof was installed and completed Saturday 2/10/18. I couldnt be more happy with the new roof, the house looks great! Next time i will be contacting B & A instead of wasting time with other estimates.

I hired VIP Steemer after another contractor, who was not on Thumbtack, took the first couple of insurance checks and walked off the job. With the way VIP Steemer came in and corrected a very complicated situation for our family, Mr. Iwundu and his team proved to be a God send for us! When VIP Steemer came to the job, the remediation had not been started and water damage and mold were still on walls, cabinetry and flooring. VIP Steemer got to work promptly re-negotiating with insurance companies and starting a proper and thorough remediation. In the middle of the remodel phase, 3 ft. of snow collapsed our roof. Before any further damage could be done to the home, Mr. Iwundu deftly handled the complex insurance problems and quickly repaired damage done by the snow. The remodel was beautiful. The workmanship was excellent. The materials they bought the job far exceeded my expectations. Above all I appreciated the honesty with which Mr. Iwundu and his team dealt with us. Where there were old piping and fixtures that needed replacing, the VIP Steemer team pro-actively identified and fixed problems. They repaired or replaced where it was needed instead of covering up or "patching-over" things that we as homeowners could have easily missed. Because of their thoroughness, honesty, and skill, VIP Steemer took what was a very difficult time for my family and me and helped to make our days a lot brighter!

I can't say enough about how good our experience was with Brandon at MJ Home Exteriors. He went to our home same day as request. He texted me pictures of all the areas that needed repairs. He cleaned out the gutters in addition to the other areas on our roof that he fixed at no extra charge. He texted me pictures after. He even needed an extra piece of wood to replace a damaged area on the roof and came back the next day to fix it, again at no extra charge. I actually offered him more money than he quoted me because I felt like he went way above and beyond what we originally thought the job would entail. A neighbor came out while he was working and asked how his gutters looked (adjoining house to our town house). He cleaned out the edge of their gutters where the leaves were the worst and did not charge them. They ended up hiring him for another job. He guaranteed his work and said he would come back if we still notice a leak. Highly recommend this company!!!!!

The experience of hiring NOVA Exteriors, working with the appraiser, and having the roof done quickly and as promised was a seamless experience. After many weeks of rain, the roofers were able to install the new roof quickly, and it looks great! We also have peace of mind knowing that their work is guaranteed, too. Will definitely check with NOVA Exteriors again for future remodeling projects.

My project consisted of a new roof, new gutters and downspouts, as well as the installation of solar tubes and a cupola and light shaft. So a fairly extensive and specialized job. As with all large home improvement, it was not without its moments, but Cox was responsive and committed to completing the job to my satisfaction--which they did. Results are lovely. Very pleased.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
