"In the last decade I had the joy of coaching thousands of people and I have gained the experience to know what is effective and what it is not. My background is in organizational psychology (I have two MAs and a PhD in this field) and coaching is the happy place of my professional life. A little about me: I am originally from Romania. I lived, studied, and worked in 4 different countries and I moved to U.S. 12 years ago to start my PhD. In the last decade coaching was my happy place and the highlight of my professional career therefore I recently decided to open my own coaching business (therefore new to Thumbtack). My purpose is to support human beings to be happy, productive, and aware inside and outside of the workplace through career coaching and life boost coaching. I would appreciate the opportunity to support you to get clarity in your personal and/or professional life. If you want to make (faster) progress towards your goal(s), work hard, and explore new grounds, I would say we are probably a good fit! I want you to feel the joy of focusing on a goal, acting on it, and embracing your achievements. I will support you to become better at what you do. See testimonials on my site irinacozma.com *Career Coaching* You might be a newly grad needing support with your resume, interviewing skills, or deciding what career path to chose. You might be a mid-career professional looking for a change like a promotion, reconnecting with your job, a lateral move, a different job, or a different career. You might be returning to work after a pause due to childcare, eldercare, illness, or unemployment. During our career coaching sessions we will work to craft your personal brand, polish your skills, and experiment with new ways of thinking and doing. We will explore what can help you reach your goals, what holds you back, and what motivates you. I will support you clarify your sense of purpose and develop a clear career path to accelerate your transition towards success. The final goal is to empower you to move toward your future professional goals. *Life Boost Coaching* You are looking for a coach because you have a goal and somehow you got stuck, you need an extra push, you need accountability, or you want to accelerate to the next level. You might want to be a better parent or child, be more social, be more patient, lose weigh, write a book, release an album, or just become better at something. Regardless of your goal - big or small, internal or external, easy or hard - our sessions will help you get closer to it. Life boost coaching is for people who are motivated to change, curious about themselves, and maybe want to see what trips them up in ways they don't realize. *Cross Cultural Coaching* You might find yourself in a new country for work or study, for a shorter or longer period of time, and you might be looking to faster integrate into your new environment. You might find yourself interacting with different cultural group and a cross-cultural session will give you the skills needed to work and relate effectively with people from different backgrounds in your own backyard. in our multicultural world it is important to have the ability to relate and work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds, to learn how to plan effectively in light of cultural differences, and how to adjust your behavior when the situation requires it. During our cross-cultural coaching sessions we will work to successfully integrate you into a new cultural environment within or across countries. We will increase your awareness, manage your expectations, calibrate your rhythm, and focus on your goals in order to fully enjoy this experience. *How we would work together* General information To see behavioral change and results you should commit to several sessions depending on your goals and desire to change (1 month, 3 months and 6 months packages available). However I don’t require any long term commitments and you decide what works best for you. You can get some value from a single coaching session but most probably your life will not change significantly after that. The real benefit of hiring a coach is experienced through an ongoing relationship aimed at achieving your goals. Having a personal coach provides a relationship built on trust and openness that allows safe exploration of difficult topics and supports risk-taking in trying new behaviors. Process Sessions are one hour long and can be face to face, by video, or by phone depending on your preference and location. You would complete an assessment prior of the first session and during our coaching engagement you will receive tools that will help you accomplish your goals. Clients can expect a variety of practices, reflections, readings and exercises. In between session we will stay connected as needed with regular touch points to keep momentum and celebrate successes. I'll customize a process and plan to support you and help you reach your goals. Each of my clients receives a lot of my attention besides the session itself as I believe that building a quality partnership will benefit the client’s ultimate goal. Included My coaching engagements include: - Free 30 min introductory session. - One-on-one coaching sessions (single session or packages). - Co-create an individualized working plan. - In-between session calls, emails, or texts to support as needed immediate challenges or share a success. - Assignments between sessions designed to create action and foster insight. While I am located in U.S., I work with clients from all over the world via phone and video conferencing. If you want to make (faster) progress towards your goals, work hard, and explore new grounds, I would say we are probably a good fit! Email me at contact(at)irinacozma.com to connect for a free 30 min introductory session."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

  • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
  • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
  • Defining your career goals
  • Creating a plan for job searching
  • Improving networking strategies and skills
  • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
  • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
  • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

What is a life coach?

A professional, accredited life coach works with people to help them make important changes in their life, either growing in their profession or changing gears in their personal lives. They help clients turn their dreams or wishes into realistic, attainable goals. They guide people through the process of making life changes by helping them evaluate the steps they must take to reach a particular goal, then help them decide how — and whether — to take those steps in the most efficient, effective and rewarding way possible. A life coach acts as a motivator, strategist and accountability partner. Unlike a therapist, a life coach doesn’t help solve problems from your past — they’re focused on helping you move forward with new ways of acting and thinking that will help you reach your goals. Some people specialize in particular types of life coaching, including life balancing coaches, small business coaches, executive coaches and personal finance coaches. Some meet clients in person, while others hold consultations over the phone.

Regardless of which type of life coach you’re interested in, make sure the person holds an International Coach Federation (ICF) credential. There are three tiers of credentials: Associate, Professional and Master, which require coaching experience ranging from 100 hours to 2,500 hours.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.
