K G says, "We first hired QST last fall for a tricky well issue, and Hunter was our specialist. He was kind, humble, and exceptionally knowledgeable, one of those rare people whos both deeply skilled and genuinely passionate about the craftsmanship of his trade. His attention to detail isnt fussy; rather, it reflects that he enjoys the work as a form of art and not just a means to a paycheck. I kept (a little annoyingly) requesting him for future appointments because its honestly rare to meet someone so openly nerdy about (and so good at) what they do.Today we had a separate concern with our septic system, and Charlie Smith came out. Whatever QST does to cultivate their team, its working, because Charlie and Hunter are cut from the same cloth: they blend deep technical knowledge, clear communication, and genuine kindness. When they explain things, it doesnt feel like Im the target of a sales pitch or being talked down to. Theyre actually really interesting and energizing to talk to about plumbing like i may or may not have considered whether I took the wrong career path because they are so fun to talk to?Both Charlie and Hunter also train others at QST. As a pedagogy nerd, this is one thing that will keep me coming back to this company. They both possess knowledge about how people learn, and are calm, patient people. Charlie even mentioned a definition of humility that is going to stick with me: understanding that theres always more to learn. I would say a prerequisite to that belief is a deep commitment to curiosity, which is a really special quality in a seasoned tradesperson.QST isnt cheap, but they also dont cut corners or take advantage. For example, when Hunter was here working on our well system, he noticed our propane pipe wasnt painted according to code and just quietly fixed it. He didnt have to; he just did.We originally contacted QST because we needed someone who services wells in Orange County. Now well be turning to them in Durham too, even though were on city water and sewer here. And for anyone with older or historic homes: Hunter loves old houses and has real experience with it, which is a huge plus for us.Were very grateful and genuinely happy customers! Big thanks to Hunter and Charlie for converting us to QST fans."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Depending on the service you need (unclogging a drain, fixing a pipe, installing new pipes, etc.), plumbers charge anywhere from $45-$165 per hour. Plumbers often operate on a fixed rate model, too. Some won’t charge hourly rates because the variables involved in their work makes it less practical to do so.

Plumbers will scope out the work, calculate the cost of parts, and roll it together with other fees to give you an estimate for the job. They may even offer standard flat rates for things like installing a toilet or a sink. Reach out to plumbers near you to get an accurate cost estimate for your project or repair.
