I hired John to add insulation to my rather drafty house. His team was professional and efficient. He even fixed a couple extra things, going above and beyond what was requested.

I needed a small repair job, flashing on my chimney. I contacted several roofing who did not return my calls. I then went thru thumbtack.com who put me in touch with northeast constuction. A representative of the company, Shawn, came to my home within 48 hrs, evaluated the job and gave a fair price. The job is expected to done within a week. Thank you thumbtack.com and northeast construction.

Paul helped repair our basement's structural problem that was revealed after a water leak from our kitchen ruined our basement ceiling. He came up with a solution by adding an additional support post next to the existing one and tied the support beams in. The posts were sheet rocked and made into a beautiful column. The support beam above was sheet rocked as well and was tied in nicely. He re-installed the basement ceiling tile system as well. My basement looks better than it did before the water damage! No more ugly metal posts in the middle of our basement. I actually enjoy being down there now. Paul went the extra mile by offering to add in a sheet rock repair in my kitchen that had been annoying me for a while. Paul started and completed the project the same week he quoted us a price.

I want to say that my experience working with John DeNisco was overwhelmingly positive. His thoroughness, punctuality, attention to detail-everything was so impressive. And my neighbor stopped by to ask him for a roofing quote. Not only did he respond to her request, he did the job that day in addition to mine. Her reaction was the same as mine. I would heartily recommend John to anyone who asks! sincerely, Ralph Fowler

I had a great experience today working with Mike. My roof had not been installed correctly by a previous roofer and he identified the problem, invited us to look at the depth of the issue ourselves, promptly repaired the damage and did so at a very reasonable cost. I would definitely recommend K & M home solutions to others. I was completely satisfied with every aspect of the job.

The roof of my 118 year old Colonial was recently replaced by BLM Roofing. The roof came out beautiful. Workmanship was A+ with all aspects of the job. Materials chosen by the job Foreman were all quality and matched the essence of the home. The workers were very respectful throughout the entire job. The job and what the workers would be doing was thoroughly explained to us before job started and even when rotted underwood was exposed under our old shingles, they explained what needed to be done and handled the repairs. Not even some delicate plants surrounding the house were even disturbed and the yard was just as clean and tidy as before they arrived. I would highly recommend BLM Roofing as they have shown nothing but professionalism on all aspects of their job and their prices are very fair. Thank you BLM for not having to worry about a secure roof for many winters to come and for your hard working, honest and fair business.

    About

Roof repair is an immediate and temporary solution to an active leak. We refurbish all damages at "flashing conditions" or on roof surfaces. This includes caulking, minor resurfacing and penetration damage. Most roof leaks occur at what are called "flashing conditions". Flashing conditions are where the roof changes directions in certain sections, such as air conditioning units, exhaust vents, skylights or walls. In fact, 90% of all roof leaks originate from flashing conditions. We are committed to saving roofs versus replacing roofs. Roof repair is a more affordable and immediate solution to a leaky roof. If the roof is in good general condition, we focus our efforts on repairing flashing conditions. We repair roofs quickly and affordably without interrupting your business. We have over 20 years of experience in all types of roofing, including the following: * Asphalt * Rubber * Metal * Chimneys * Skylights * Pipes If you have a leak, we will find it. We provide warranty on all work. We are fully insured, and we offer free, no-pressure estimates.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
