You Can’t Go Wrong With Such Great Work As a retiree, living on a fixed income and not being a professional in the building/construction trades it’s always a bit nerve-racking when faced with multiple issues to maintain your home investment. The Colonial portion of the homestead was built in 1750 and the addition is an authentic Post-N-Beam Revival making this a valuable property historically and culturally. With this type of property, quality cannot be compromised! I had six immediate responses to my request for roofing repairs initially. So, let’s talk about the ONE that got the job(s). L&K Construction gets five stars from me in every category. Wayne returned my initial call very quick. He showed up at my residence, surveyed the repair work needed and then promptly provided the explanation of the scope of the repairs. He also provided an estimate of the proposed job in a very professional manner. Now here is where the differences began to surface that separate the field. Wayne is very knowledgeable on all phases of construction from demo and rehab to new construction. As a roofer, Wayne was tasked with cleaning up shabby work of previous roofers. Previous work that was done poorly causing leakage and potentially costly damages to not only the exterior but the interior of the property. I was more than pleased with his work on this task and immediately expanded the scope of work and employed him with additional projects – cedar roofing and siding repairs. If your doing cedar you need to know what your doing! He was back on site within a few days! Having been in the property business I understood the value of a firm like L&K Construction managed by the generational experience of Wayne Lupien. Wayne was honest and candid in his explanations and his estimates. The jobs were excellent! The cleanup was excellent with no walk around problems. The price was fair and reasonable. As a matter of fact, L&K Construction will be coming back to do more work with not only roofing and siding but with masonary work. You can bet I will be informing my friends and acquaintances of the professional expertise of L&K Construction. So, if you are looking for professional work at a reasonable price with no sacrifice on quality to get that level of cost-to-benefit ratio, call Wayne at L&K Construction - you’ll be glad you did!

The price quoted was the best price of all companies I spoke to. The results were awesome. Many companies don't have carpet cleaning capabilities but they do offer this service. I got the works for an affordable price and it was high quality work. I would totally reccommend using!

Ryan installed interior trim around 5 new skylights in a very timely and affordable manner, painted them and also created an nice plaque out of trim to house our new wireless skylight remote control. He and his helper Rick were professional and cleaned up very well. I would highly recommend Ryan to others.

They were very responsive and came out the very next day. Ryan replaced a part on the roof which was causing the problem. He was great to work with and we shouldn't have any more leaks. The reason for only 4 stars is the $500 minimum. Although I agreed to that, the repair was very simple and took about 30 minutes, so it was definitely way overpriced. In retrospect, I should have gotten estimates from other roofers so the cost was equal to the work.

Of several roofers interacted with (Fri), this co. came out Sat - all the other expensive co. names, no personal response- over weekend - Owner (Ryan N). works on the job- I paid prior to completion, this younger owner has integrity. Found the exact same shingle (match from the side had done- over 5 yrs ago), to match other 1/2 of 2 story saltbox - extension, & horse barn. Josh I lost your buisness card and have a things I need to get done. I was so happy to find u again!!! projects that I need done. I have to say this young man is one of the best. I have had many contractors, carpet companies, roofers. Etc. I have owned my own home for 30 Years and i am constantly upgrade it and changing the look. I met josh before his Milatary career. He did work for me then. It was always to perfection and the absolute best price. He is very respectful of your time and needs and always a gentleman with manners u wish for. In any case in the past few years josh has done a it of remodels. He opened up a wall between my kitchen and living room that Ali e made me jump with joy. What he did after was truly amazing. Granite breakfast nook, with an island in the kitchen. Took my breath away. He painted every room in my home and put in hardwood bamboo flooring. That was the biggest project he had done for me. I wouldn't even think of using anyone else, but I also frugal and wanted to make sure his prices were with standards. He saved me on that big job 18 thousand dollars. The quality of what he did above and beyond. I just had my house appraised and the value went UP 30K!! So now I would like my master bedroom and bathroom gutted and have josh work his magic. I will be in touch soon josh. I would like to go over the plans do u can price out the job and draw it up. Look forward to seeing u soon. I am sure your little ones are getting big. One last really none of my business comment I saw someone gave u one star? I have referred you to at least 10 of my friends. Refinishing their floors etc. and they were very impressed with ur professionalism and work ethic. So maybe this woman is just having a hard time in life and unfortunately they have a hard time dealing with stress and expect people to be at their call when demanded. The hard part of being self employed. You have made so many happy. Please do not let this person disturb u in any way. Maybe she has personal stuff going on who knows. Just keep going. I want my project done now so call tomorrow!! Sorry that was a joke. Maybe in poor taste. I will pray for the woman that she find happiness in something. Thank u josh. Talk soon

I hired Anthony for a roof repair. He came out to my home on one day notice (which I greatly appreciated) and completed the job quickly and efficiently. He is a good communicator with his customers. He is knowledgeable about building materials, roofing, flashing and water control - important issues for New England roofs. He is also very concerned about the quality of his work being done correctly. I am planning to hire him for a bigger project and will update my review. He's a nice guy who wants to build things correctly!

Wayne has done every job in my home. From start to finish! I have tried others and always ended up calling Wayne to fix or just finish the job. He built my wife a walk in closet in great time and was very affordable. He takes pride in his finished product. He has done my roof and also redone my bathroom. He can do anything that you may want done in your home. I trust him and with his 40 years experience, I know the job will get done right!

Queen City provided a highly competitive quote. After viewing the property, Tom also offered several money saving options that other roofers did not. I now have a beautiful roof with 50 year warranty, 10 year labor (best in industry!), including all new color-matched drip edge and rain diverter. After the job was done, I found a few errant roofing nails around the house but overall am completely satisfied with the work performed. Very professional! The contract was detailed, the job was scheduled to suit my tight deadline, the workmanship is spot-on, and the project was completed under budget. 100% Satisfaction with this company.

Last year I finally decided to follow through and replace all the windows on the front of my house. One of the reasons I had been putting off this overdue task is that I knew it would end up costing me an arm and a leg. However, I came across Sam of Hire a Hand and he gave me a great price that I couldn't refuse. I was worried that I had compromised quality for the low cost but when the job was complete I was blown away by the amazing craftsmanship. Sam is very professional and seems to carry his talents through the many areas of carpentry. I can confidently say that I recommend Sam for the next job that you need done!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

      • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
        • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
      • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
      • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
      • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
      • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
      • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
        • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
