I am male and 63 years old. Marie Solimeo has been my personal trainer for more than ten years! When I started working with her, I had recently gone through a difficult treatment for a serious illness. I seemed to feel tired all the time. Since that time, Marie has helped me gradually raise my fitness level, using a combination of careful strength and aerobic training. Through her patient work, she has been immensely helpful and has really improved my quality of life.

I recently started training with Carlos and he’s exceeded all my expectations. I’ve been training for over 20 years and am in pretty good shape, but wanted to get my body to the next level. Since I never worked with a trainer before, I was not sure what to expect. Carlos is truly amazing and I mean it! He has a terrific demeanor, exceptional motivator, inspiring and has innovative approaches to driving results. In a short period of time, he has taught me creative methods to shocking my body. Additionally, he provides guidelines for clean eating along with a training regimen you can do when you’re not with him, to keep the momentum going. I really believe what sets him apart from other trainers is that he genuinely cares…During one of my workouts, I arrived on an empty stomach and immediately, he brought me a protein shake to ensure I was properly fueled up for a hardcore workout!! He won’t EVER let you give up and does an excellent job at picking you up, when you are down. I would LOVE to train with him Forever & Ever, because, YES, he’s that GOOD! Everyone needs a ‘Carlos’ in their life. -Cherline Beveridge

I've been working out using various fitness programs available for purchase (e.g. Insanity, P90X, Les Mills) for a few years and thought I knew a lot about how to work out. When I tried to put something together on my own, I quickly found out how wrong I was! I did know a lot of exercises, but putting them together into a program that fit what I was trying to achieve just wasn't happening. I was so lucky to have found Dancer for Life. After a brief fit test and interview, she put together a program for me that was perfect for my goals. I wanted to improve my strength and lean out my physique. I saw results on the first part pretty quickly with her guidance and encouragment. She also helped me realize that the leaning out part takes time, but I am seeing great results there too. I would have totally messed up ( and probably given up) without her as a trainer. If you are looking for someone who can help you with YOUR fitness goals and not some cookie-cutter approach, Dancer is the one for you. She is certainly my permanent trainer!

Chris has been training me for over a year now and the transformation is remarkable. As a former athlete and now new mom I was having trouble getting my body back to the pre-baby shape I was used to being in. Chris's approach was wonderful in that we talked about where I wanted togged to, what i was willing to do (frequency and nutrition) and he really customized his approach based on my individual wants, concerns, and body type. Most trainers feel like they have 1 or 2 methods they apply to everyone but for me i liked the personal approach Chris has had with me. I highly recommend Chris and PTbyCV! .... results: so far i am down 30lbs in 8 months but whats better than the number on the scale is how in shape and energized I feel. You can't put a price on results!

My name is Naureen and I have been training with Brandon for about a month now. He is definitely one of the most experienced and committed trainers around. Currently, I train with him twice a week. I really enjoyed the variety and challenges he puts into each session. He has a great personality and makes me feel like I'm training with my best friend! He really knows how to motivate me!  Brandon is focused on helping me achieve my goals. He makes every session challenging, yet fun and rewarding at the same time! My fitness level has increased noticeably and I have seen improvements in my ability to complete various exercises, such as sit ups, core exercises, lifting progressively heavier weights and pushing myself more intensely through each session! I'm actually looking forward to each session with Brandon!  Brandon makes sure that my technique during exercises is on point. He is extremely reliable and punctual. He is always set up and ready to start training ahead of time. I thoroughly enjoy working out in an indoor environment I would recommend Brandon to anyone looking to improve the level of fitness alongside a dedicated and very professional fitness coach!

I had the pleasure of working with Tav in both group and one and one sessions. He is both experienced & committed to helping reach and exceed all possible fitness goals. I started with Tav training once a week, as part of a group class, and really enjoyed the variety and challenges he put into each class. Every week was different, from circuit training to hiit intervals, weights and much more. I was also able to have personal one-on-one session as well! They were equally challenging yet somehow fun and a good variety of exercises. He is supportive and encourages you in a positive way to help achieve all goals that were set. Working with Tav, my fitness has increased noticeably and I’ve seen improvements in my ability to complete more sit ups / core exercises, lift progressively heavier weights and generally push myself harder throughout each session. I find I actually look forward to my workouts with him. Most Importantly: He alway made sure that my technique was correct to avoid any injuries and provided tips and ideas on how to continue to challenge myself. He is reliable and is always ready to start training ahead of time, with an exercise routine planned out for that session. I would have no hesitation in recommending Tav as your personal trainer if you want to achieve your fitness and health goals. He is one of the best!

After a 1.5 year hiatus from any sort of workout regimen, I heard about Adult Gym Class through a Facebook post. After scheduling an initial assessment with Tony, the head honcho, I decided to start training again. It’s been about 5 weeks and I have nothing but awesome things to say about this place. The classes are tough, but manageable, and are never boring. No two classes have been the same. The small-group setting is ideal for me, because I do not enjoy being in an over-crowded class. It’s wonderful to have a coach there every step of the way. Tony is a great instructor and teaches you proper form & technique first & foremost. Getting back into shape will be no easy task, but I trust Tony’s knowledge and guidance and I look forward to continuing with the classes for a long time. I'm looking forward to doing a full mo-fo soon. Not sure what a mo-fo is? Come to Adult Gym Class and find out!

I have been training with Seleah for almost a year. Seleah has helped me achieve my goals, my main focus was toning, strength and losing a few inches. Weight training was all new learnings for me, but I was able to grasps and work as a team with Seleah. She makes every session challenging and fun at the same time, especially the group sessions. I always look forward to my sessions and in some cases doubled up. I had no idea weight training worked it all, you lose, tone and strengthen, I never really looked at it that way. It's also all about being consistent and having a good coach. Seleah listens to everyone's needs and focuses on what the trainees want to accomplish. She also ensures you are doing the exercises correctly to avoid any injuries. My fitness and strength has improved itremendously and the results are visible, giving me more confidence and great feedback from family and friends. I can rock my little black dress without having second thoughts. You Rock @Seleah, thank you so much!! Looking forward to 2018

Gian is a great trainer. He is able to custom tailor a workout plan for every client based on specific goals, concerns, and abilities. His focus on technique really puts you at ease that you will never be pushed to compete an excessive that is unsafe. We just finished 10 weeks of training together and because of the results Gian was able to help me achieve I have extended for an entire year. Gian is personable and professional and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a personal trainer.

Keith Barr is a wonderful person and a great track coach! He has been the Head Coach of the Rancocas Valley Track Club, which is a youth sports training program for kids as young as 5 years old, for many years now. The athletes love Coach Keith's easy going personality and the parents love his dedication to the program and to their kids. Keith is very positive, professional and encouraging to all participants. He welcomes athletes of all ages and ability levels and has consistently welcomed athletes with special needs. He has provided many young kids with the knowledge and early training they need to develop early motor skills and become familiar with the sport of track & field. As those athletes age and grow, they continue to get faster and stronger. For those who are older and ready for more serious training, he is very knowledgeable and demanding, yet understanding and encouraging and is able to cater to the individual needs of the athletes. The results speak for themselves as many of the RVTC athletes that Keith has coached have gone on to be track & field and cross country standouts at Rancocas Valley HS and/or college track programs.

I would start with quoting Masoud as an 'Excellent' fitness trainer. This is the first time I ever hired a personal trainer and till now I have great experience with him. He is very experienced & knowledgeable; and explain each exercise in detail. He is very patient also (specially with me :), since I never did any HIIT training/exercise before, there were times when I faced challenges trying out certain exercises; he not only suggested an alternative but gradually helps you overcome the challenges as well. I had a hard time sticking to a diet plan, he helped set-up a good diet plan that I can follow now. Training with him is fun but not the easy :) - as he quotes 'if its easy its not worth; and if its worth, then its not easy. I would highly recommend Intensive Core Unit.

I have had the pleasure of working with Robin Hrin as my personal trainer for 5 years. I have found that Robin is extremely knowledgeable of the function and benefit of all the exercises and stretching postures that are part of my workouts. She always makes sure that each session is a balanced workout of opposing muscle groups, and includes both strength and aerobic training in each session. Most of all Robin is a pleasure to work with, and I greatly enjoy our sessions. I highly recommend Robin as a personal trainer.

Carl Replied immediately to my request for a trainer on Thumbtack. Within minutes we were communicating about his background and experience. He asked me what I was looking to get out of one on one training. 10 minutes later, an appointment was scheduled for several days later and we have been training together ever since.

Jacquie was very responsive to my initial inquiries as I had never worked with a trainer before and was starting from zero. She was encouraging and not pushy. I appreciated the first session at no cost / she asked pertinent questions and was quick to understand my priorities. I felt she had a keen sense of 'where I was' in terms of weight training and was able to set manageable goals for me.

today was my first day which was a complementary, workout. however once the workout was over i knew immediately this was the type of trainer/training that will help me accomplish my goal. If the next 3 months are anything like the first day, i will surpass goal with no problem. Jake is not only the owner and great trainer he also keeps the workout from getting stale which is perfect. I'll respond in 3 months with the end results

5 star because he listens. Because he doesn't believe in killing someone on the first day. Because he's believable. Because he doesn't blow smoke up you know where. Because this will be a process. Because he wants me to be successful as much as I want it. I'm hooked. Can't wait for my next session.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

    Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

    • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
    • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
    • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
    • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
    • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
    • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
    • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What do you need for kickboxing?

What you need to bring to kickboxing depends on where you are working out and what your goals are. For a gym or fitness club’s cardio-based group kickboxing class that does not use punching bags, you generally need only appropriate workout gear and enough water. For kickboxers who are training in a martial arts studio, working one-on-one with a trainer toward a specific goal or sparring with competitors, you will need your own boxing gloves (12- to 16-ounce gloves provide more protection for beginners) and hand wraps (to protect and support your hands under the gloves, as well as keep them dry). If your lessons are in a martial arts studio, you may not be permitted to wear shoes, so bring clean socks if you don’t like to go barefoot. If your training includes sparring, you may be required to wear a mouthguard and/or protective headgear. Whether you’re in a group fitness class or hardcore training session, bring a sweat towel for your comfort and the comfort of people around you.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Shop around to find the right type of boot camp class and the right instructor for you.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
