What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

How much is a boot camp?

The cost of fitness boot camps depends on how often you go, the package you are purchasing (or if you are paying a drop-in fee), the location of the bootcamp, the equipment the instructors provide, and the background and reputation of the instructor. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is. The same boot camp class might be $20 for a drop-in student, $15 for a student who pays for 10 classes per month, and $10 for a student who pays for 30 classes a month. Studio space can also affect costs, so if your boot camp takes place in a high-end gym with top-of-the-line equipment, the prices will likely be higher than a class that meets in an outdoor space with limited or no equipment. Here are a few facts about Errol, which illustrate his qualities as an outstanding trainer. He has an app on his iPhone where he logs each exercise he has me do and my reps. Then Errol analyzes his log to calculate my progress. Errol also has a wide repertoire of exercises in his training program. Errol sincerely wants me to succeed and I am committed to his program. Another example of his sincerity is his concern about my nutrition. He also emails me to check out how I am doing during our off days. I think Chris is an amazing trainer! He has been very respectful and encouraging. I really appreciate the feedbacks and pointers he gives to me to improve. He makes sure your doing the exercises the right way. He makes the exercises interesting and conforms them to what your goals are. I personally never tried some of the exercises he shows me. I really like them and am excited to learn more. He's also straight to the point. He doesn't waste your time and he's never late. He even makes sure your diet is helpful for your goals as well. I also like how he does the exercises first. He's very fit himself and shows he takes his own advice first. I definitely would recommend him to others.

It was extremely difficult for me to sweat while exercising! Well, I don't have that problem with Dewayne. He makes sure that I'm on top of my training and I'm seeing results. Working out with him lasts more than an hour and upon finishing with him, you must at least do 30 minutes cardio. I love his professionalism!

Everything went well. I was very sore the first day but that is to be expected since I haven't been exercising before. The best thing about my trainer, Greg is that he encourages me to accomplish my goals and sees to it that I do. There are times I am not able to perform the task efficiently but he makes sure that I able to perform it well. He finds creative ways to accomplish it. He' s great😀‼️

I’m over 50 years old and have been working out with Dewayne once a week for about 5 months. He’s a strong and experience trainer and great to work with. He’s not pushy and will adjust your workout routines according to your level and pace. He’s flexible with times, but it’s best to keep a regular schedule. He’s great for the person who needs a little motivation to focus on workouts that are difficult doing on your own. He’s good about changing up exercises for each session so you don’t get bored. Most of his routines can be done outside of a gym and therefore anytime between sessions. Dewayne is calm, professional and comfortable to work with and I highly recommend him as a trainer.

My initial meeting with Dewayne consisted of a one hour fitness assessment to establish a realistic starting point for my program. Following that meeting, I began a twice per week workout schedule consisting of full body resistance training followed by, when time permits, 20 minutes of cardio after the session is over. I struggle with chronic pain and Dewayne does his best to try and modify exercises so they are attainable. He is extremely laid back and willing to go at a reasonable pace to help his clients achieve their fitness goals.

If you are struggling and need someone professional, polite and truly care about your progress, you have found the one. Katie is amazing! Not only did she make our sessions fun and interesting, she helped me organize my fitness plan for the days I didn’t see her, provided nutrition advice along with recipe ideas, didn’t mind holding my crying baby during the workout, and constantly upgraded our workout by finding new exercises for me. She tracked my body fat % and BMI which went down dramatically after this summer with her! I’m happy to continue losing weight with her sessions and now we are working on strength training. If you want to use every ounce of energy and feel the most alive you ever have, John is you trainer. I started with a low level of fitness and over a year and a half, have been replacing pounds of body fat with muscle month after month and feeling better in every way. John is extremely knowledgeable about body composition, exercise and nutrition and puts together a plan that fits the goals you want, be it strength, speed or if you just want to look like him ;) Everything is tracked so you can see your progress which helps when it gets tough. It does take time but you have to trust the process, it works. He will push you to your best, you'll grow muscles you never knew you had but theres always fun and good laugh to be had. It doesn't get easier, you just get faster stronger and lift heavier. Flexibility is great, whether its your local gym or home gym (my preference) and if the session starts late, you'll go until your finished.
