    (32 reviews)

Because I teach a solid vocal and acting technique and my students improve quickly (if they are committed and work hard!) I love music and performing - it feels me with joy. I enjoy so much now, teaching others what I've learned throughout my life. It is wonderful to see how my students improve and find their voice and confidence.

    Brittany's Voice Lessons

    (4 reviews)

I have been teaching for about 6 years, and I enjoy it immensely. I began teaching private lessons in college. I encourage regular practice so that the student can foster their own love of singing, and they can also improve more quickly and steadily. I am a very caring and kind teacher who always encourages my students on even the smallest accomplishments. I have performed in all genres; therefore, I teach all genres, and I enjoy teaching a variety of genres. I tend to encourage a classical technique will all students, just so that they can learn to sing healthily. This often helps my contemporary students to sing whatever they want, without hurting themselves. I encourage all students to perform regularly so that they build their confidence and can enjoy singing even more! My lessons are fun, and I teach singers of all ages! Here is my biography: A graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory, Brittany Cusack has recently made her New York Lyric Opera Theater debut in the role of Dorothee and will continue her affiliation with New York Lyric Opera Theater when she performs the role of the Sandman in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel in January 2015. Ms. Cusack has performed in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Massenet's Cendrillon, Offenbach's Daphnis et Chloe, Saint-Saëns' Hélène, Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore, Rorem's Fables, Royce & Vavrek's Vinkensport, Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro. Her theater credits include Villar's Phantom of the Soap Opera, Keys's Look Out, Olympus!, Menkin's Beauty and the Beast, Loesser's Guys and Dolls, and Gesner's You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Venues include: New York Lyric Opera, the National Opera Center, Opera at USC, SU Opera Up-Close, and Loudoun Lyric Opera. Highlights of her career include performing in and opening the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade two years in a row and reaching the semi-finals in the New York Lyric Opera Theater Vocal Competition. Ms. Cusack also teaches voice and piano privately and enjoys this immensely. She resides in New York City and currently studies with Mignon Dunn.

I have the pragmatic approach to learning how to sing. No matter what age I feel that it is necessary to rely on technique and not musculature to produce healthy singing. Singing has been my life since I was very young. I have learned so much about art, myself, and even life through this art form. It's truly incredible.

To say we are a boutique voice studio would be an understatement. More than the superior technical and functional training WVS provides, we have had our most-significant successes in the lives that we have changed, careers forged and TANGIBLE results we've achieved through our students (both our professional and, in some cases, legendary singers as well as our novices). My job is to make sure that every client gets optimized training and an experience that is profound and worth far more than the tuition they pay. If neither myself nor my staff is the right fit, I want to put them in the right hands regardless of what that costs me in time and resources. I have a real passion for this and have sacrificed much of my own professional career pursuits to ensure the successful path of others. I have studied with more voice teachers, pathologists, scientists and renowned industry professionals than any colleague I know... and yet, I have gained more knowledge from my students than any of my formal training could provide. I see every client as a puzzle to be unlocked... not merely their voice, but their entire self-perception. This provides me with great fulfillment and joy to know I might be using the voice as a conduit to change not just the way someone "sounds" but the way they LIVE.

I care about the health of my students. People come to me with chronic sore throats from strain, limited ranges, breaks. I fix these things, and I get them to sound great and have fun. I don't let 12-year-olds sound like they're 30. I care, and I'm good. The human voice is the most wonderful toy I was ever given. As a teacher, I get to play in everyone's toy box. It's all fun. I love helping someone who thinks they can't sing on pitch sing on pitch. I love working with people who've sung all their lives and just hope people won't laugh at them, and I show them their the soloists, and no one's laughing. I love working with beautiful, strong, healthy voices that just need a little help to fly. I love it all.

Because I've been a professional singer myself, I understand the emotional complexities that go into singing in front of an audience. I show my students how to convert their nervous energy into performance energy so that they can have a successful outcome and enjoy themselves in the process. I also have experience singing/teaching a wide range of musical styles and can help students learn how to categorize their various sound/styles and draw upon them specifically at will. This makes them more marketable and more confident! I love passing on my knowledge to the next generation of artists! It gives me great satisfaction!

  • NorthLine Music - Voice Lessons

    (20 reviews)

I teach you how to connect to your voice and your style. We are all given an instrument at birth and too many of us think that singing is NOT a learned skill - but it is! At Northline we approach singing as a learned skill, your voice is something you simultaneously build and learn to play, unlike another instrument you can't go to the store and get a better version, you have to work on yourself to get the upgrade, and you have to stay close to your instinct to make sound, in order to stay true to yourself. I can help you sound the way you WANT to sound, and still keep you connected to the core of YOUR individual and unique voice. Voice and Speech Whether you struggle with an accent, a tired voice at the end of the day or have to do presentations at work and feel like no one pays attention when you talk, or you just want to improve your communication skills, we can help you. The tools for speech and song are very similar and we can help and guide you to a better more resonant sound, and also give you advise when it comes to how to approach all those difficult conversations that life is full off without loosing your voice or your power. Norths Voice Group Class Open mics are all very well, but sometimes you need the step before the open mic. You need an audience that gives honest feedback, but who are not the general public. The bi-weekly Group class is a great way to learn how your voice impact others when you perform and learn how to handle that performance anxiety. We also attend monthly Open Mic nights, where you can show up sing a song and get constructive feedback from your peers in a safe and loving environment. The Community aspect is important to us and we always have fun! I teach in accordance with people's intentions and interests, level has nothing to do with it! The Dream Program: - for singer/songwriters looking for help finding and developing their unique voice and develop their songwriting - For voice coaching and career guidance for singers and actors and singing-actors - Feedback at live gigs around New York City The Brave Program - For the absolute beginner, the karaoke enthusiast and for the shy and for the singer scared of singing in public The Junior Program - for those btw 13-18 who needs voice training and some general music theory and instrument knowledge The Diamond of Good Speech Program: - for the speaking professional; actor, sales men and comedians etc. who need to empower their speaking, their presence and their communication The International Intensive - for the international student or newly arrived New Yorker, who needs further work on Speech/accent reduction or Singing - or both The Unlimited Singer - The intuitive student who wants to go deeper into voice work with personal growth in mind. The thing I hear most often within the first twenty minutes with a new client is: "It is so much easier!" I tailor the information needed for improvement to the best learning style for the student in front of me. I love helping artists discover the potential they have in their voice. After all, as a performer your job is to share who you are with your audience, If you sing easily, you can share your story easily on stage.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Wickham Vocal Studios

(70 reviews)

Wickham Vocal Studios exists to help clients bring forth the best version of themselves possible not only vocally, but as people.

Patrick has always been obsessed with sound, although as a kid, he was tone deaf. He discovered that his inability to sing was not for lack of talent but a need to reverse engineer habits he had developed over the years since infancy. This led him to study physiology and pursue additional studies at Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music.

We decided to write and produce a world premiere Full Off Broadway musical utilizing our advanced and professional division students as the actors. We had a three-week run Off Broadway at The Players Theatre, released a cast recording and made history in our own little way. It is what gave me the inspiration to begin the West Village Musical Theatre Festival the following year.

Now with over 15 years in the business, Patrick and his team have the most comprehensive methods of vocal training with more than 250 talented students, a facility with a classroom and theater, great faculty and a quality of training that rivals some of the top voice conservatories in the world.
