A large part of my 2 story roof blew off in the horrible wind storm of 11/12/14-11/15/14. I had to scramble to find roofers who could give me a quote and a time to re-roof my house. I got 4 quotes but none could do a tear off in a timely manner. They all had more jobs than they could handle as many lost their roofs in this area. Jose Giron gave me a good estimate and an appointment time of about 5 days. They started immediately and worked feverishly for 2 1/2 days and completed on Thanksgiving morning. Each evening they cleaned up all the debris and ran a magnate around the grounds. The crew was amazing. Professional, great workers, friendly, most courteous and helpful and obviously well trained. They exhibited pride in their work and in their company. If one has to have an emergency and need a new roof immediately, this company is the "go to" company. I am a 77 year old widow and I put my confidence in Jose & Teo Giron and am so glad I did.

Ty was great to work with. He didn't require us to be home for the quote like many other roofers who mainly want to give you a sales pitch. Ty set us up with a great looking roof at a great price. His bid was thousands lower than others with the identical Malarchy shingle.

Roof Tech completed a full overhaul of my roof. Some new plywood was needed, installed new flashing and vents, and new 3-D arch shingles. Outstanding experience from the bid process through installation and clean up, and it didn't break the bank. I primarily worked with Jamie, and he is the consummate professional. He pointed out issues that three other contractors failed to recognize and never tried to oversell anything. Installation process was fast (less than two full days) and of high quality, and the installation crew was great. Very friendly group. Jamie also oversaw a very thorough cleanup. I would highly recommend Roof Tech Specialties! Curt M. Northeast Portland

The team finished my roof yesterday, as quoted, and the quality of work was evident from the roof job itself to the broom swept area below. Everything was left in pristine condition. They were professional from the beginning to the end with an inspection that showed us the true value we received in hiring them. I can't thank Villaurigui Roofing enough for the excellent job! I'm so happy!

It was great working with Oscar. He communicated with me, showed up when he said would, did good efficient work, and cleaned up before he left. Seems basic, right? So many contractors don't and it's very refreshing to find someone who operated so professionally.

I had a roofing crew come in last summer to install a new roofing system. I paid about $3500 for the whole thing and was very happy with the result until the fall and winter months. I had leaks all over the place. I tried getting in contact with the original roofers and realized they were no where to be found and without a CCB License to go after I was in the hole for $3500. That is when I called Emilio, with Roof it All, he came out and showed me all the mistakes the other guys had done and since I didn’t have much more money to pay he worked a deal with me and we were able to finance the whole new roof. In the end we went through the very wet Oregon winter without any more leaks. I am very happy with the work, communication, and responsiveness that Emilio and his people were able to provide. Definitely recommend this business to anyone who needs a new roof.

Braiden performed Skylight cleaning and inspection both inside and on the roof. He arrived on time and proceeded quickly and professionally. He found exterior areas that needed sealing and did the job as part of the cleaning. He also pointed out a roof shingle problem that I will take care of with the HOA roofer. Very pleased.

Monarch has performed more than 30 residential tear off reroof's on my project's. I have many crews out in the field each day but must say that Monarch shines as a five star in regards to customer's service and attention to their needs. Also they protect the project from damages during tear off of existing roofing so that my clients never have to worry! Armondo's eye for details definitely sets him ahead of 95% of all other roofers out there in the market. Would I recommend Monarch Exteriors? 10 out of 10 times! James Cecil Raindrop Roofing NW

I'm very impressed with Jim Hurula and his crew. Jim showed up for the estimate on time, then showed up on time for the repair. He stayed in contact with me and the bill was exactly what he said it would be. He even made a follow-up call to make sure I was happy with the work. I will be hiring him again for more work on another house I own. Two other roofers I called never bothered to call me back and now I'm glad they didn't. Longview, WA is the worst place I've ever lived for getting ANY sort of repair work done. Business owners don't return calls, don't show up on time, try to overcharge, and often do a lousy job. If Jim Hurula keeps up his excellent business practices he'll be able to run the other slipshod, rude and unreliable roofing businesses out of Longview.

we talked on the phone and scheduled an appointment he arrived promptly and Just by looking at it said what was the problem and immediately started work on my roof And solve the problem but it didn't stop there he actually has stopped by the house to checked up on my roof a few times he calls it a maintenance call to make sure everything is as it should be It was a great experience working with Barney I am truly satisfied I feel that the price I paid was just right I have recommended him to a few of my friends and family. I called 4 roofers to get estimates 3 showed up 1 was almost 2hrs late and way over priced 1 was ok priced but his scheduling wouldn't allow him to work on my roof until 3 weeks later And then Barney the reason for this review 😊 Now I truly understand what great customer service means Thanks Barney

I was hesitant to go with All Slope as they provided an estimate by photograph alone without coming to look at it in person. However, I needed to have some shingles replaced following a nasty wind storm and could not assess the extent of the damage myself as I have no way of getting to the top of my two-story house. The other roofers I tried to work with were either very slow to respond, didn't respond at all or were "too busy" to take on such a small job. So I hired All Slope. The All Slope crew was prompt - in fact, they arrived 15 minutes early for the scheduled appointment and though there seemed to be some confusion as to what they were there to fix, they got right to work once that was cleared up and completed the job efficiently. They even found a couple of other spots that were in need of repair that couldn't be seen from ground level and fixed those too - at no extra cost for labor (I provided the materials). In addition, the total repair ended up being less than I was originally quoted. So while I had reservations in the beginning, I am happy with the result. I will definitely call All Slope first the next time I need a roofing repair job!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.
