Osvaldo was very professional and did a great job in such a short period of time. If you ever need drywall work done and a little electrical, he is your guy, and he does it all at a good price. I would be happy to use his services again when needed.

Seems like the crew did really good work, used good materials at a great price included, and Ramiro was very interested in taking care of customers. We did have some scheduling issues, but they were quickly resolved. Would recommend to someone looking for affordable roofing solution.

This man listens. You ask questions...you get good, honest answers. Don can do the jobs how you want them done. If you'd like to know any additional ways to accomplish your jobs, he has the knowledge, details, solutions to support that, also. Don's prices are great, fair, reasonable. 1) He put a post w/base in to support my bowed in the middle "semi-sagging" cross beam of the patio roof. 2) Don stabilized my attic fan to stop its vibrating noise & possible motor damage. He put a screen over it on the inside of the attic for safety to prevent little fingers from getting in. 3) He poured concrete. 4) Don moved furniture. He's got the tape measure & the level ready. Hey...and guess what? I hired Don to come back tomorrow to work on my other projects! I'm glad he could put me in on his schedule.

Just bought the house and the roofing inspection had suggested some minor upkeep and cleaning. Called that company and asked for the repairs to be done, and could not get them to schedule to do the job. Called Erik Kelley and he came within the week, did the repairs suggested for far less than the competing bid, and came back the next day to finish some repairs that were significant and the roofing company had missed at their inspection. Whole job was done timely, and for a fair price. Highly recommended.

We had flooring replaced throughout the downstairs. Throughout the process, his attention to detail was noticeable. The subfloor was a disaster but his replacement of it was perfect, no bulges or uneven areas were noted. I have since referred him to family and friends.

Neil and his crew did an outstanding job in re-roofing our house. The materials and workmanship were both first quality and the price was competitive. Oregon Roof Guys thoroughly inspected and repaired the entire roof and the chimney area. They improved on the original roof installation by adding metal flashing all around and extra protection in roof valleys. We are very confident in our new roof. In addition, they were careful not to damage my plants, heat pump, or anything else. This includes minimizing vibration that one fears will damage 25-year old piping and ductwork. They did not drop shingle bundles on the roof. No pictures fell off of the walls. They cleaned up every day, picking up all litter and sweeping the patio and driveway. In addition, the crew were all of high quality and friendly and pleasant to work with. They were nice to my neighbor and left her feeling well-treated. They came when they said they would. They did what they said they would do. I have never given a vendor such a high recommendation. Bill Detlefsen

We recently had our roof replaced and they did a fantastic job. We really don't know anything about roofing except what google could tell us, but the team was so experienced and got to work and told us every step of the process along the way. The time frame was a week, but they crew finished in 3 day. I highly recommend them and they did have the best price out of the 6 estimates we received.

From the start the entire project went smoothly. It started off with a quick response to set things up and then flexibility on scheduling what with all of the rain we had last week. Then the crew showed up and was very friendly and went straight to work as fast as they could. Never seen a crew hustling like that - IMPRESSIVE! Then they knocked the work out in just over an hour and were on their way leaving me with a fixed roof and a clean job site. Will definitely call again for any future roofing need, since this team did such a GREAT JOB!

When talking to contractors about our remodel, I was overwhelmed. That is, until I found Surfaces NW. I used them to get a new roof, insulation, fence, deck, paint for interior/exterior, as well as a remodel for both of my bathrooms and kitchen! We are in love with our place, and feel like we have a brand new house!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
