I have contracted That Food Guy for several events. Mostly catering but have contracted him for event consulting as well. Jerry is a pleasant person to deal with and is really funny ("Never trust a skinny chef" still cracks me up)! His service is timely and always first class. Will do business with again.
Sandra catered our wedding, and everyone loved the food. She had brought a curried appetizer that I didn't ask about, and it was a HUGE HIT, Everyone really enjoyed it. Out of all the caterers and restaurants we checked, Sandra really worked with our budget, and there was plenty of food, and everything was really tasty. Alison has been terrific to work with. We have used her in a few different capacities in the last 2 weeks...private chef for a dinner party, caterer for a holiday cocktail party and chef for delivered meals. Her food has been delicious, and she is really easy to work with. She is open to suggestions and will also give her opinion on what she thinks will work best depending on the event. She is quick to respond, always professional and reasonably priced. I plan on using her again and recommend you give her a try.
This year I found myself both single and retired. After 40 years of dining out or preparing pre-packaged Diet Food, I was at a loss as to how to cook nutritious, interesting and quick meals for one person. The delightful Bonnie Ward Strauss - with experience as a caterer, restaurateur, personal chef, and instructor - was eager to show me how easily I could cook a variety of meals for myself that are attractive, tasty and low-calorie. I took notes, creating a cookbook of sorts, filled with Bonnie's directions and hints about the best ingredients, cooking methods, and even grocery shopping. She let me observe sometimes; but also had me standing in front of her stove, making certain I could recreate her dishes in my own kitchen. Bonnie completely tailored my lessons to what I was hoping to achieve and the cooking skills I had at the time. She also encouraged me to experiment on my own and to look at food in a new way. It is obvious that she loves being a chef, and that she hopes other people will appreciate good food as much as she does. Bonnie is smart, kind and enthusiastic about cooking. I completely recommend her as an instructor. I also intend to take more classes with her in the very near future.
I never imagined my dream wedding like a lot of girls do. I always figured a wedding would be between the bride and the groom and never thought much about feeding guests or even having a beautiful dress. But, in January of 2016 I set the date to finally walk down the aisle. I had six months to plan the day's events. It seemed more than daunting to plan everything. As a woman pushing 40 with a full time career and a child to raise, having the "perfect wedding" was definitely not a priority to me. Also, with finances being an issue, i certainly was counting my pennies and not expecting anything fancy at all when I added everything up. A few months before the wedding I reached out to Danielle and Austin, knowing they were chefs and had recently been married themselves, to get a few money savings tips and maybe some free advice on how I could feed about 100 people on a tight budget. I was going to attempt a potluck wedding. That first phone call with Danielle changed everything. I let her know my situation and I laid it all out for her. Bottom line, I wanted a no frills- "just feed the people" wedding reception! By the end of that fateful phone call, Danielle offered me peace of mind in my menu choices, awesome tips on what foods go well with others and what doesn't and she even provided me surprising comfort with a particularwedding ceremony detail that I had been worried about. Her advice on a personal level and a professional level relieved me so much. At that point I realized I NEEDED to hire her officially and not just skim her knowledge for free advice! Ha! Shortly after I officially hired her, she provided a beautiful wedding menu just for me that expressed the casual feeling I wanted but added TONS of class! She met with me briefly before the wedding to go over a few more details. Even during that brief meeting I was left at ease knowing she fully understood my plans and trusted her completely. I wasn't worried a bit. A week before the wedding, the unthinkable happened. My outdoor picnic wedding had to be cancelled due to rain. Danielle and Austin were quick to make all appropriate adjustments and eased my mind about the sudden change of plans as well. On my wedding day, I was so happy to walk into the kitchen that morning and see her and Austin's smiling faces. They both seemed SO cool and relaxed. Neither one of them had that "hurried" chef look. They created an amazing spread with such elegant details that really surprised me! Cucumber-melon water, anyone? Healthy and savory quinoa pasta? Sheesh! What a TREAT! When it was time for the champagne toast, Danielle brought my glass to me with such a gracious and refreshed smile that I didn't even notice that she had been hustling as she helped serve the rest of my guests their drinks. Just pure professionalism and talent. Danielle and Austin have a unique talent of helping their client clarify their menu ideas and bring them into fruition. They took a scary and possibly pathetic wedding day and turned it into a memorable and elegant experience. Thank you guys! Alton Garcia made our wedding spread. My husband and I love Spanish food and after a consultation was with Garcia, it was decided that tapas style food would be had. There were whole roasted chicken, tortilla Espanola, whole grilled artichokes and various roasted veggies, mussels, cheeses & breads, and numerous sauces to pair with the food (think Romesco & aiolis), among other beautiful and well-thought-out foods. Our guests were amazed with the spread (we heard multiple times that it was the best wedding food ever), as were we. Garcia also made it very affordable for what was delivered. It also doesn't hurt that Garcia is a sweet man and a pleasure to work with. I recommend him highly.
I was lucky enough to be in the guinea pig program for some of Chef Diane’s recipes. Great flavors, real ingredients and a vegan twist on traditional southernm food makes for a great option for those on the go or with little cooking experience. Great overall value for anyone looking to take the night, or week off from cooking!
Neil is a very knowledgeable chef that takes professionalism seriously while having a fun time teaching cooking techniques. I learned a variety of things during our session which ranged from proper techniques, kitchen science as well as helpful hints. Neil is punctual, responsive and great to work with.
Rick Browne knows his BBQ and his mastery of the grill has produced some of the best food I have ever tasted. Over the years I have been lucky enough to attend a couple of Rick Browne catered events. Grill-roast prime rib, tangy BBQ sauce, stuffed peppers with BACON!, and an amazing white chocolate orange souffle...just a sample of the goodness that has been prepared by Chef Rick.
We have not yet worked together (we will in a couple of weeks), but Chance's phone call was outstanding and he has a real feel for what I want. Can't wait to work with him!
We are a university in Portland, OR that hires breakfast and lunch catering for new student orientation events 3 times per year. We have been using a larger commercial catering firm for several years but really wanted a fresh menu and to work with a local smaller café. We stopped by the café/bakery one day to purchase some bakery items and some lunch items to sample prior to choosing our new caterer. Our team loved all of the items and decided to hire Mehri. Mehri was very responsive from initial contact, to planning and through the day of the event. She is a creative and talented chef and everything was delicious. The food was delivered on time and the presentation was perfect. All of the feedback we received was positive. Other departments at the university that need occasional catering asked for Mehri's business card. We will be hiring her for our next event in March.
