  • Weldon Voice & Piano Studio

My goal is to help you find your natural voice by working on vowel formation, breath management, tone production, maximizing the use of your resonating chambers, and learning to relax muscles that interfere with production of beautiful tone. I work with all types of voices, male or female; many musical genres and levels of ability. I teach private piano in student's homes and at Warner Pacific College. Theory and technique are emphasized, and all types of repertoire from classics, to pop, to jazz. If you've always wanted to learn, it's not too late to make that dream come true. I use humor to help make the sessions more enjoyable and to aid in the learning process. I have 20 years of experience.

    (1 reviews)

I'm a classically trained mezzo-soprano, living and working in Portland, Oregon. I have experience in opera, mixed voice choirs and older musical theater singing. I can provide you with an introduction to basic singing technique, or help to hone some skills you already have. I can also help those applying to college-level vocal programs. No experience is necessary, nor does a potential student have to read music: If you enjoy singing in any capacity, we'll probably get along just fine.

  • Be Art

Anyone can be singer or dancer; you just have to get out of your head and into your body. Drop the worries about what folks think, heck, even try to make as big a fool of yourself as possible. Once you stop comparing yourself to others, you can find yourself and your voice or voices! That's when you become worth listening to. Getting to our own version of "great" with singing and/or dancing is, in my humble view, one of the best tools for sustainable, resilient happiness one can outfit themselves with. So, whether you hire me, someone else, or find some other avenue, do yourself a favor, and get on it!

  • Emily Lau's studio @ Curiosity Crossing

    (3 reviews)

The purpose of musical training is to prepare the physical instrument to stand up to full, free expression of human experiences through music (and text). We make music to give meaning. We seek refuge and joy in music. Curiosity Crossing is a creative music lab where I compose, record, teacher, and collaborate on creative projects with professional and amateur artists in the realm of early music and contemporary classical music. Through public events and private instruction, CC strives to provide a space where people can connect to their intuitive and expressive selves. Every month, we host at least one public musical event. The atmosphere is always joyful and inspiring. There are also regular lessons, classes, ensembles, and intensives for musicians of all levels. It is my wish to cultivate a community who are committed to playing, listening, working with others, improvising, and in the process finding each person's authentic voice. Yours, Emily

  • MusikHaus

    (1 reviews)

At MusikHaus, we offer music lessons to beginners and advanced students of ukulele, guitar, Hawaiian steel guitar, piano, and voice. Reach your musical potential at MusikHaus! Chris Gabriel, MusikHaus' director and lead teacher, was born in Germany and while growing up in a military family that moved often, Chris discovered a strong foundation in the guitar. His love for the Hawaiian and country music are reflections of his summer visits to his grandparents in Hawaii and Bakersfield, California. Ever since Chris received a Bachelors degree in Music in Jazz from Portland State University, it has been his dream to open a space where he could use his unique experiences and abilities to help carry on these traditions. Stephanie Hays Gabriel, co-founder and administrative director or Musikhaus, has a background in business and arts planning. She has curated musical events such as an annual Jazz series featuring local Jazz artists as well as volunteered as a board member for a local nonprofit, PDX Pop Now!, for several years. It has long been Stephanie's dream to bring her talents to the local community, bringing more musical events and creating more spaces for people to gather and share experiences. Chris and Stephanie's shared experiences over 20 years have made Musikhaus the natural next step. They met in a performing arts class while at Hilo High School in Hawaii. After returning to Portland to complete school, they moved to Germany for two years and were very active in the musical Zeitgeist. After returning to Portland, they began writing, performing and recording in the band Super Zeitgeist, which released a children's CD in 2009. We look forward to welcoming you to Musikhaus and sharing music and community with your families! "Music is the magic wand that drives away care and worries." -anonymous "Hawaiian music lifts the latch of care, and makes the spirit free as passing air, and brings the light of light more near, more clear." -Peggy Reid "Music is the soul what exercise is to the body." -anonymous "Gently, as on the wings of a dove, Music, a gift of infinite Love, Wafts us to a happy land, Where love and peace command." -A.M. Anderson "The master key is music. It will open more doors than any other single accomplishment." -anonymous "The music of the Hawaiians, the most fascinating in the world, is still in my ears and haunts me sleeping and waking." -Mark Twain

Thumbtack Spotlight

Bel Canto Music

(17 reviews)

What do you love about your job?

Actually, my work is more of a passion than a real job. I love to see how my voice students evolve and succeed. I take pride in the fact that I contribute to this process. I get inspired by the challenges I face working with them from lesson to lesson because none of the lessons are the same! This is a very versatile job, and I never get bored.

What or who inspired you to start your own business?

People who heard me singing wanted me to teach them. They did not stop asking me until I said yes. I love singing and teaching, so I thought, "Why not? What if I am good at teaching voice?" So I started to give one-on-one lessons, and it turned out that I am quite good at it! This is what I have been doing for more than 20 years now and according to my plans, I will continue doing this until I die!
