Davis Handyman Home Improvement Service provided exceptional service and quality work on several diverse home projects that needed quick attention. We had a few drywall repairs, exterior door and door frame repairs and fascia replacement on a segment of the exterior. Mr. Davis professionally responded to our inquiry and provided a reasonable estimate to complete the work. He started and finished on schedule and kept me informed of his progress and was quick to address any concerns. We would use his services again and would recommend him to those looking for a responsive and multi-talented handyman.

Thomas, of Titan Roofing, was quick to get a bid out for my roof and was nearly as fast after the bid was agreed upon in getting his crew out to complete the project. There were no hidden fees, there was no lag in getting the work done. And it looks like a spectacular job finished (though to be fair it was done yesterday and it hasn't rained yet so I suppose, writing tongue in cheek, I won't know if they did a great job until after it is tested, but it sure looks a whole lot better after they were finished than before they started). There is a 5 yr warrantee which hopefully I won't need to use but is a nice peace of mind bonus. Bottom line, if I had another roofing project in the future, I'd call Thomas without any hesitation.

I was impressed with Joe from JW Construction and Remodeling immediately because of his prompt response. He went above and beyond what we asked him to do in order to secure our deck, and his work was great. I will be hiring him again and referring him to friends.

I had a bad leak in my roof with much rain in the forecast. I was not familiar with Beatttie Roofing but after about 15 calls to other roofers, Alex Beattie of Beattie Roofing called me right back. He came out that evening and inspected the roof, told me why it was leaking, and what was going to be done to fix it. The next morning he and his crew fixed it. I'm happtwith the repair and he stuck to the price. I hooked itbis awhile before I need Beatie's services but he will be my first call next time.

We hired Jeff to install some kitchen cabinets and build a deck under them, then trim them out. Jeff is punctual, reasonably priced, neat, personable and a real craftsman- every quality you could want in a contractor or Handyman! I am very particular and OCD, he worked with me every step of the way and really helped my vision come to fruition. Not to mention, he was wonderful with my 3 very young children and respectful of my home (taking shoes off etc). We are having Jeff back for a full bathroom remodel and cannot wait to work with him again, would highly recommend.

Scott did a great job on our house that hadn't been power washed for 17 yrs! He did the soffit, facia and siding - and it looks brand new! He wiped down the windows too. He came quickly, did the whole house in one day - worked very hard! We would definitely recommend him to our friends and family.

We couldn't be happier with the work done by Barry and the crew at Donlin Construction. After all new flooring, new interior doors, and the removal of a wall, we feel like we're living in a new house! All the guys were extremely professional and fun all at the same time. Their attention to detail is awesome, and the fact that they worked so neatly was greatly appreciated. Living in a house at the same time that major renovations are going on isn't fun, and Barry and the crew made sure to do everything they could to make sure we were still able to function and happy. Highly recommend using them for anyone considering remodeling of any sort for their homes. I know we'll use them in the future when we have additional work come up.

Nate was very personable and came out to my home promptly to give me an estimate on a new roof. I was impressed on his knowledge on roofing and felt he was someone we could trust to do the job. Although due to my own circumstances I was unable to work with him, he would be the first person id call or recommend to someone who needs a new roof or repairs. He is someone I would trust for the job.

NIR painted the metal roof on our house in Danville. The staff is professional, courteous, and knowledgeable of their trade. I especially appreciated the discussion on options. Once we selected NIR we set a date and work was completed on time and as expected. We plan to paint our house next spring and NIR will be our first call and possibly our only call. They deliver what they promise when they promise at a fair price.

There was a complete remodel of 2 room add on of my house. Everything was done in a timely fashion, organized and area kept relatively clean. They removed drywall and replaced anything that needed it. Outside they put insulation, vinyl siding and replaced metal roofing. The also removed rear rotted 2 level porch and roof and rebuilt it into a 2 level porch with steps to upper level and to bottom yard with stone area to walk on to. They also cemented and patterned the stone and cement walls. They are knowledgeable in construction, are licensed and insured and I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for good work at a good price.

We moved in 2000. Our house was built in the late 50's early 60's. Seaboard Contractors LLC came in and they installed a new asphalt roof, then we moved on to new windows and then new siding on the house and garage. At this point I feel like I'm in a new house.

Scott Boreman, owner of Encore Roofing, did an outstanding professional job to repair damages to my home resulting from hurricane Irene in 2011. He was instrumental in providing the best value solution with results that exceeded my expectations. He adjusted his schedule to accommodate my requirements and not only did he repair the roof but coordinated other construction service providers necessary to repair external and internal damages resulting from the storm. I strongly recommend Scott and the team at Encore as one of the most professional contractors I have ever used. Great Results, Good Value, High Integrity.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.
