What an amazing bartender! Brilliant Affairs had the pleasure to be at a wedding where Casey bartended. Immediately he seemed to be and was a friendly, and easy-going person. He was the only bartender at the wedding and did a splendid job. We ran out of cups and needed more ice during the reception so he went above and beyond his duties to go out and get more for the guests. We would highly recommend him to anyone! Cheers!!!

Chef Anton and his server Stacy really went out of their way to make our party a huge success. They prepared hors d'oeuvres, a plated dinner and several desserts including home made ice cream! We had 18 guests and everyone was very pleased with everything Anton made. Stacy was very attentive to make sure everyone had what they needed and she was also quick to clear plates as people finished.

I hired Chef Kim to cater my sister's baby shower of 60 people. She was able to work with my price range of $10/pp. As for the food, the Cesar salad was average.. Nothing spectacular .. Lettuce, parm cheese and croutons and dressing out of a bag... I think that was disappointing.. I would have preferred more homemade ingredients in the salad. Also on the the menu was a Dijon mustard pork loin, breaded chicken with tomato basil and mozzarella, a pasta with vegetables in a cream sauce, pesto potatoes, and mixed vegetables. The pasta, chicken, and potatoes were absolutely delicious... The main reason why she was rated 4 stars. The pork was somewhat fatty and a little undercooked to my liking even though we did place it in an oven before serving it. I would say it was a good experience and I would consider using Chef Kim again.

Jim and his staff prepared and served the food for our 50 anniversary garden party. Jim prepared much of the food in our garden and every morsel he served was both usual and delicious. Jim listened to our suggestions and then improved on them with multiple tapas, a gigantic skillet of paella, homemade ice cream, and pastries. He had previously served our family a plated sit down dinner that was equally delicious. Jim is not one of those tense, temperamental chefs. He made both evenings seem effortless and his congenial personality even added to the festivities. When he left, the kitchen was immaculate.

I have been using the services of Chef Tanya for 11 months now. She has been providing weekly dinners and some snacks twice a month for my children and I. I have 3 children which are very picky eaters and they LOVE the meals Chef Tanya prepares. In July I hosted a family reunion of 40 and I had Chef Tanya do all the food. What a spread- even homemade ice cream! Next month my brothers and I are giving our parents a "dinner for two" prepare by Chef Tanya as an anniversary gift. I know it will be fantastic. I have recommended Chef Tanya to my friends and co-workers.. Her food is so good.

Everyone at my 60th birthday bash LOVED Camille's food. From the pulled pork, to the mac & cheese to the cheesecake desserts; all rave reviews! Her BBQ is amazing: pork, chicken and ribs. I grew up in the south and I'm picky so trust me. She's got this down. Her potato salad and popper dip are out of this world. I wanted a party with fabulous comfort food and Camille delivered on every level. She set up a buffet and appetizers at our venue early and everything looked perfect. I feel so lucky we found her. My family and media friends were gaga over it. I can't say enough. She gets my highest recommendation and I would hire her again in a minute. Lu Ann Cahn

We love Learies baking. It is amazing and definitely made with a lot of love! My favorite is the carrot cake with butter cream cheese icing. She is available for the holidays which allows me to share some of my favorite desserts with my family & friends. It always great to do business with someone who enjoys what they do. With a variety of payment options and many yummy baking items to choose from, you will surely keep coming back for these delicious treats. Try the Rum cake!!

I hired Linda Burns Catering for my wedding this past weekend. Despite a few hiccups, everyone raved about the food and we have tons of leftovers (I had some no-shows and a few last-minute cancellations so we had around 55 guests instead of 60). We had a huge selection of food to accommodate all kinds of dietary restrictions, and everyone had way more than enough to eat. I had a few vegetarians, 2 gluten free, 2 seafood allergies, and 1 nut allergy in our group. We were able to feed everyone well and the price was way below all the other caterers we contacted. Favorites of the evening were the bacon-wrapped scallops, crab-stuffed mushrooms, mini pizzas, meatballs, mac & cheese, and shrimp scampi with rice. The chicken marsala was much better at the tasting we had, at the wedding it seemed a little overcooked and dry, but still tasty. The green beans were over-salted but they still got eaten. The staff gave us amazing service. I tipped them and my father added to my tip because he was so impressed. They went above and beyond what was requested. They asked me if I needed anything, put food on our head table for us, cleared tables and helped clean up at the end of the event. We had the option to hire a bartender but we opted out of it to save on expenses, but they helped with the bar anyway. I was told they were also helping to open bottles of wine and champagne, refilling our ice tubs to chill more beer and wine, and keeping the drink table clean. The only cons I have are minimal and do not matter in the large scheme of things: 1. Communication was a bit off throughout the planning process. I found that texting Linda was the best way to get a quick answer. We didn't get the final menu nailed down until about 3 weeks before the wedding. 2. The Catering Staff was 45 minutes late. They were scheduled to arrive at 3 pm. The wedding began at 4 pm. Normally this wouldn't have been a huge problem since we weren't serving appetizers until 4:30 pm, however since it was raining we had moved the ceremony indoors, deciding that since it was a small group we could just have everyone seated at tables. We rented tables, chairs, and linens through Catering and only the tables and chairs had arrived, the linens were coming with the staff. This meant that none of my guests could enter the main space because the tables had no linens on them. I was informed of this as I was upstairs getting ready and could not come down to do anything. They arrived at 3:45 pm and my friends helped to get the linens out. The ceremony only started about 20 minutes late, and all of the food was served on schedule, so this was not a huge problem. It just created a ton of stress for me and the groom right before the ceremony. Overall, I was very happy with the service and the food, and highly recommend her!

Let's Cultivate Food catered our church's 90th anniversary kick-off breakfast. Eggs, fritatta, sausage, french toast, bacon, bagels and homemade cream cheese, garlic parm potatoes, fried apples. Plenty of delicious food for 140 people. Ran out of bacon but can you ever have enough bacon! Signage was great, everyone knew what they were eating. French toast was dry and could have used syrup. Many people took business cards and we will definitely consider using again. Very professional and easy to deal with and very reasonably priced! Thank you Yoon!

Giovanni's Catering was the perfect choice for my daughter's graduation party we were having in our home. He offers a full service option which we desperately needed because for the first time my father, our number one organization is undergoing chemotherapy. Giovanni was most accommodating, from his many menu choices to providing every minure detail (paper products, chairs, ice, soda, desert, outdoor tent) as well as mouthwatering food and fair pricing. Guest raved about the delicious pasta dishes, chicken dishes, pulled pork, fruit salad, deviled eggs, just to name a few. The best part was the personal service Giovanni provided from set up to take down, even the removal of trash was a blessing. No detail or request was too small. I definitely will use this service again whether a big or small event.

Last minute my baby shower plans changed, the hall i had booked sustained water damage and would not be available so after doing some searching i found this lovely lady who could cater my event at my house on short notice. I got in touch with her for a consultation. We went over a few ideas on foods I would like, along with telling her to give me a couple surprises. Appetizers were amazing there was bruschetta bites with tomatoes, a cream cheese bite, home made jalepeno poppers and my favorite was the pork nachos. Main courses I asked for the normal stuff chicken dish, pasta was dish, along with a kids dish for my 2 year old and a single vegetarian dish for my sister. She showed up with a lemon chicken alfredo that was top notch, penne pasta was good, and the lime salmon. I loved my salmon it was hands down the best I will probably ever eat. My son loved his chicken fingers and asked for more onion rings lol I tasted all the foods that were there (I'm allowed to I'm pregnant) and they were great. I already had a cake ordered, but did agree to her including a dessert also. I am happy I did she made these cake balls that everyone loved as much as my $300 cake. I would recommend Ms. Marchesi. I actually gave her number to 6 friends who were on attendance, and will be going to one of their parties I will definitely be using her for my older sons birthday in July

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

    • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
    • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
    • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
    • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
    • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
