I have to say to myself, Why haven't I done this sooner. On Friday night we had a ladies night, 5, and Tony prepared 5-6 dishes and each one was amazing, delicious. He prepares well by asking all the right questions regarding the group he is preparing for and then executes it exquisitely!! I can't wait to plan my next event with Tony and I will also be doing some cooking classes with him. Tony from all of us ladies on Fri May 29th we thank you so such a wonderful special evening.

Tanya prepared and presented a simply outstanding dinner for four at our hotel in Ocean City New Jersey last night. She brought all food, cooking equipment, created a centerpiece for the table, prepared the 4 course meal as we enjoyed drinks. Combined with Linda serving, this was just perfect! The food was gourmet and very meticulously prepared and presented. We all loved it and look forward to doing this again.

I used Bee&Jay Catering to cater my brother 50th Birthday party. They exceeded my expectations. When I contacted them his wife was very professional and prompt with responding to texts and emails. I love the presentation of the food for the taste testing and it was delicious. They also stayed with in my budget. This sealed the deal they were hired right then and there. On the day of the party they set up the tables with linen and centerpieces. The food was so good guests went back for seconds. If you are looking for a professional caterer that can cook then I strongly suggest you use Bee&Jay Catering!!!

Donna came prepared and spent three hours patiently showing my friend and I proper knife/cutting techniques. She was very knowledgeable on the proper care of knives, the different kinds (the must-haves) and how they should be sharpened/maintained. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I also ended the night a large/delicious dish of tabbouleh to enjoy over the next few days. I would highly recommend Donna to anyone who is looking for a personal cooking lesson/demonstration.

Not only is David's food absolutely delicious, the presentation is always amazing as well. David has a gift of being able to put any sort of ingredients together and make it a five star meal. I have never been disappointed by his cooking. Even when I have tried foods prepared by him that I was sure I didn't like (as a matter of personal preference), I was surprised that not only did I enjoy the food but I reached for more. You can't go wrong with hiring David for any type of even! You won't be disappointed!

We had an excellent time cooking with Chris Paul. It is clear he is exceedingly knowledgeable about food and how best to prepare it. He can easily craft lessons for any skill level from novice (us) to expert (him). We had a great time learning cooking and baking basics with him over four classes. If you are interested in learning more about cooking, I highly recommend taking a class (or four).

I contacted Kathy through Thumbtack to provide a cooking class for Central Jersey Tri Delta Alumnae Chapter. Seven of us met Chef Kathy at Jersey Girl Cafe in Hamilton, NJ. We assisted Kathy and learned how to make: Tuscan white bean and organic spinach salad, Napoli Chicken, butternut squash rice pilaf and molten chocolate lava cakes. We spent about 2 hours cooking the meal and then enjoyed another hour eating it. Kathy gave great tips on everything from how to use a chef knife to the best way to keep chicken breasts from drying out in the cooking process. Along the way, she gave us information about healthy eating and freshness of vegetables we choose. Kathy has an easy-going personality. Our evening was fun, informative and delicious eating. I would definitely recommend Kathy and all her cooking/catering expertise. I look forward to doing this again sometime.

I hired John to prepare a surprise Father's Day dinner for my husband. He prepared us a four course meal that was fabulous! John communicated with me the entire month before the event and accommodated us in regards to menu choices/likes. He arrived on time, the courses came out immediately after one another and cleaned up when he was done. Nice guy, wonderful food. We look forward to using him again!

Chef Stuart was great! I hired him as a personal chef for a private dinner party at home. My dinner just finished and I could not wait to let everyone know how awesome he was. I spoke with him a couple of times before the event. He sensed my nervousness and made sure to do everything to put me at ease. This included a courtesy confirmation call the day before the event to confirm everything for me again. He came early to set up, as to not cut into the dinner times, and cleaned up everything when he was done. Chef Stuart offers reasonable prices and exceptional food, as well as personable service that was loved by everyone at the dinner. This review as one sample gesture to show my appreciation to him, as I already intend to recommend him to everyone looking for a great personal chef. Thanks for finding me someone so awesome!

Great hands-on teacher who really knows what he's doing. Plus, the food is sooo good!! From ingredients to cooking methods, this is the best cooking class I ever had. I learned new techniques and how to properly season, prep, and cook veggies and proteins. Definitely recommend and I'll work with him again soon. Perfect for a gift, meal prep, or to cook a whole meal for a party.

I started working with Bela in 2002. He gave me about 8 private lessons. To this day the meals I learned and skills acquire continue to impress others. I have yet to have someone taste my Caesar salad and not say it's the best they've ever had. He is able to teach everything from shopping to cutting to making multiple days meals at one time. I've also used his services to cater for parties and prepare a weeks worth of meals in advance. His food is ALWAYS ALWAYS top notch and gets nothing but fantastic reviews from everyone who eats it. If you're looking for a teacher or personal chef, you can stop looking here...he's the best!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
