Mike and his guys did a fantastic job, he listened to my ideas and helped with the design, he went with me to the plant store to consult on plants... stone wall is very high quality, low voltage lighting hid all the wires... I could go on and on... bottom line: great attention to detail and he does the job right, he cares about the outcome ... very fair pricing too!

I needed approximately 300' of welded wire fencing installed adjacent to my back yard and suitable for horses and goats. I had installed the corner and end posts myself but couldn't stand the heat any longer and hired them to add the support posts, install the welded wire, and hang two gates. They did everything I requested, worked diligently in the heat ALL DAY with no complaining, were polite and professional and got it done in one day! I highly recommend them.

Tim repaired two broken cross beams on a 6' high wooden fence as well as installed three openings covered with wire to allow water to flow through during heavy rains. I was very impressed with Tim. He arrived on time, we agreed on a price, he got materials and immediately started to work on the project, finishing in a timely fashion as promised. Tim's workmanship is excellent and he was both flexible and creative in creating the water outlets. I would highly recommend Tim.

I hired Angel after I had to run a 240v plug from the breaker, which is on the outside of my house, to my leaving room on the other side of the house. Since I don't have an attic or crawlspace, the electrician had to cut a several holes into the ceiling to fish the wire over to the laundry room. I just bought the house the week before so I not very happy that I already had to cut into the ceiling. I sent out a request on Thumbtack and Angel replied right away. He gave me a quote for the job as I described it and then lowered his quote after I gave more information about it and he saw it would be less work. I appreciated that he adjusted the quote to the amount of work that was done as many people will try to gouge you. When he came over, he was on time, very polite, and quickly started working. He did a great job and now I can't even tell where the electrician cut 4 holes into my brand new home. Angel did a great job and I'd definitely recommend him to anyone looking for repair work.

Earlier this week, Damon and his crew came over and on schedule to wire AC service to my small garage & workshop. The work was performed exactly as planned, worked perfectly without issues and they've added a extra circuit for free, too. The price was totally reasonable, plus my patio music also sounds much nicer than before since Damon brought with him several pairs of outdoor speaker systems for me to try and buy. Damon and his crew were always courteous and professional, even doing a top-notch job cleaning up once they've finished the work, unlike way too many contractors out there. I would absolutely hire them again!

I wish there was a star in between just good and outstanding. These men put up on heck of a fence. They battled some of the worst clay and rock I have seen. Regardless, the fence is straight and true. Very sturdy footings make this a long term fence. The workers were very accommodating and friendly. They had great sense of urgency, so our big fence was finished in less than a week. If I had any constructive critisizm it would be a bit more attention to details. We have mended a few holes on the wire which we were told would be taken care of. I would recommend this young company for just about any residential property who is looking for a well built, competitively priced and beautiful to look at fence. I'm sure if I had mentioned the small issues they would come back in a flash to fix whatever needed fixing. These young men do a great job.

I needed some outlets moved over. Alex was on time, fast and had a positive attitude the entire time. He was patient and easy going. A week later a wire came loose in the wall plate. I told Alex that evening and he was here the next day, again, on time, great attitude and no extra charge.

Amanda and Charles were worth every penny. Amanda was very professional and thorough in her painting and paid attention to the tiniest of details making our newly painted living room truly shine. After spending an entire day painting the two-story room, she came back in an instant to fix some small blemishes that we noticed. I can’t rant and rave about the experience enough. To top it off, her husband even helped us refasten the gutter to the side of our house! These two will be our go-to team for painting and handyman needs. We were very, very impressed."

Kyle did an excellent job. He was very professional, quite on time and was very knowledgeable. I had him do three different things: 1) Installing an attic antenna and wiring to finally hook it to my TV. 2) Installing security lights on either sides of the house. 3) Mounting a caulk board in the garage. He did an excellent job with all of them. The work turned out to be a bit more complicated than what he initially expected and ended up taking a couple of hours more than the original estimate of 5 hours. But, overall I was very satisfied with his work and glad that from the very beginning, he kept me informed that he charges by the hour.

Laguna put in a 250’ steel pole / wire ranch fence for a new house, I'm building. Richardo and Noe are really hard workers. Kept coming back and stayed with it until done. Took my suggestions to task and kept me informed during the process. Cleaned up well after the job. Price was average or a little above when cross quoted.

He was reliable, courteous, conscientious, considerate and skilled. He corrected anything that was not up to his high standards or mine. He always left a clean work site. His work was excellent. He removed ceiling fans, clad an exposed, laminated beam, trimmed the cladding and rehung the fans on a vaulted ceiling. Refinished three doors, installed molding around five doors, corrected problems with two doors’ original installation, installed door knobs on all. Installed baseboard in two rooms. Extensively remodeled an office including: Installed tongue-in-groove aromatic red cedar on one wall Custom framed three windows, two in aromatic red cedar and one in pine. Completed installation of a half-done bead-board ceiling Installed track lighting on said ceiling. Painted said ceiling and the pine window framing Installed wiring raceway along three walls to carry computer wiring. Added a duplex plug to one wall. Finished and installed a “barn door” on an office wall allowing door to slide open and closed without taking up room needed for office furniture. Did a beautiful job. Built a wheelchair ramp along an uneven exit to facilitate safe passage for a newly handicapped resident. I will happily employ him again. Thanks, again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
