I worked with Mike to have some Christmas lights installed on our roof and around some tree trunks. Mike was stellar in his communication and his level of service is second to none. A very personable guy and more importantly, very detail oriented which is hard to come by these days. He truly treats the project as if it's his own home and now we're looking into other landscaping projects that I'll know he'll do a great job on. Highly recommend Mike and his crew!

We highly recommend Eulalio. We had water leaking into the Den and thought it was from the roof. He was punctual, showed us the before and after photos of problem areas. We are glad he worked on these although later,he diagnosed that the leakage was from the wall and not the roof. We will certainly hire him again for any other problems.

We were very happy with the results after Angel painted our single story house. He is an honest combination of quality and value. He met with us two or three times before we scheduled. He repaired, prepped (including pressure washing), and then painted. His prep was so thorough that two of my neighbors mentioned it. He did an excellent job with the exterior repairs, which included carpentry on the siding and roof soffits. The whole process took some time, a couple of weeks, due to spring storms and unexpected but necessary repairs (a storm-downed branch damaged the soffit) and it was worth it. Angel really takes his time to do it right, and has pride in his work. We took a chance hoping that the job quality would be worth the value, and there is no doubt that’s the case.

Juan came out to do a small but difficult job for me. His price was excellent compared to other companies. Even with problems with the angle of my (very old) roof he came out again to make adjustments and gave me alternatives and recommendations.

I had a difficult roof leak over my garage that two previous roofing companies were unable to find or properly repair. Starpoint diagnosed multiple issues in about an hour and repaired them all the next day. No leaks anymore! Their pricing was very reasonable, within $100 of the previous companies that couldn't get the job done. I highly recommend Starpoint, they were ethical, very knowledgeable and easy to work with.

I had two short sections (~25-30 feet each) of gutter installed on my house to replace old ones. I met Ted at the house. We discussed options and decided to go with a slightly larger-sized gutter than typically used because of the large roof area which drains to a small length on the edge. The installation looks good. Just waiting for the next rain! :)

I must say, I was very impressed with the level of professionalism and honesty involved with this visit. Dustin arrived ahead of schedule, did a very thorough inspection of the area of roof where we thought we had a leak. It turned out that our problem was not with the roof at all - Dustin did not attempt to sell us anything. Something we, sadly, don't see all the time anymore.

Adriel did our gutters about a month ago and we are so satisfied with the work that was done. He also traveled from Austin to San Antonio just to educate us a bit more on the type of gutter that would best work for our metal roof while staying at a reasonable price. Thanks Adriel!

I had to be out of town for the install of the roof and when my project manager said there was an issue, I brought it up to Rowland and he was extremely responsive in reaching out and making sure the issue was addressed promptly. Roof looks great and I couldn't be happier. Great job to Mario and his crew.

Bernard and his team gave me the date that they would replace the roof. The crew arrived early, they worked hard all day (in Texas summer heat), and completed the new roof in one day. They did a great job of cleaning up. I would definitely recommend them.

All of the above. Every phase was handled on time and as promised, phone calls were always returned. They not only did the metal roof but installed a new patio with some "remodeling" on the back of the house. Also did a great job in helping with insurance and then a reasonable bid. Always cleaned up every day. A special thanks to Dakota and Raul for a job well done. There is no question I would not only call them for another job but certainly recommend them to anyone.

BlueStone Roofing was recommended by a friend and I want to pass that recommendation on. They were prompt, professional and got the difficult repair work done. They did a bit over and above the estimate without added charge. Before & after repairs they are easy to work with and helpful. They were also the most reasonably priced. What more can you ask? Thanks!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
