Kendra K. says, "Cole and Son’s Plumbing is a hidden gem in Southern Maryland! I found them on Thumbtack when I needed a kitchen faucet replaced. Submitting the request was easy and I was able to schedule an appointment the same day. Master Plumber Carrington responded within a few minutes to confirm the appointment and to ask if I had picked up the new faucet. I told him I didn’t have the new faucet yet but was on my way to grab one. I got to the store and decided I didn’t want to replace the faucet with the traditional one that was being removed. I upgraded and grabbed a digital touchless one. Carrington arrived as scheduled, was very professional, and began the work removing the old faucet. He communicated what he was doing under the sink and ensured property was protected and there was no surrounding damage. Although the digital faucet had more parts to install, it was no problem for Carrington. The installation went well and Carrington tested the faucet to make sure it was working. There are two ways to turn on the faucet and he discovered an issue with the sensor! The faucet would turn on and off with the handle, but the water would continue to flow after using the sensor side. It wouldn’t turn off using the sensor or the handle. Carrington continued to troubleshoot the problem and retraced the installation steps. Again, he said it was a faulty sensor and those types of faucets should not be having a problem. He decided to go to Home Depot to pick up the same faucet!! I thought I was going to have to make the run since I made the original purchase, but he went! He wanted to tell the staff about the faulty sensor and to get another one. That’s what I’m talking about!! He returned, installed the newer sensor, and VOILA!! The faucet worked as it was designed to. It worked with the handle, the side sensor, or both. He also installed the new soap dispenser too. I appreciate this professional taking the time to complete the job correctly, and not leaving until everything was functioning as it should!! There was no rushing through the project to just get it done, or rescheduling the next day when an issue was discovered and it was getting late. People, this is true professionalism!! After I completed a final check to test the functionality of the faucet and soap dispenser, Carrington made sure the space was clear. Oh, he was even able to detect a problem with a toilet flapper in the foyer toilet! I highly recommend Cole and Son’s for your projects, because they make sure they send highly trained professionals and the rates are very reasonable!! Thanks again!! I will be using their business again for future plumbing upgrades!"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do plumbers charge per hour?

Depending on the service you need (unclogging a drain, fixing a pipe, installing new pipes, etc.), plumbers charge anywhere from $45-$165 per hour. Plumbers often operate on a fixed rate model, too. Some won’t charge hourly rates because the variables involved in their work makes it less practical to do so.

Plumbers will scope out the work, calculate the cost of parts, and roll it together with other fees to give you an estimate for the job. They may even offer standard flat rates for things like installing a toilet or a sink. Reach out to plumbers near you to get an accurate cost estimate for your project or repair.
