This is the second time I have used this company and I will use them for any moves in the future. The movers were extremely polite and professional. They took care with all of our items and even helped with furniture assembly, which added no extra time to the job. David is always easy to get a hold of and helpful.

The movers were very professional and careful with wrapping all of our items and was able to fit everything on the truck with extra room to my surprise. They were both careful loading and unloading all our items into our new home. We were very pleased with the service and would rehire again if we needed to.

I had hired Baku Moving for my move recently. The movers were very professional and wrapped everything nicely. They did a great job, worked in a timely manner and unloaded stuff quickly. I couldn't have been happier with the entire experience with Dulles Logistics. Max was very responsive and a pleasure to coordinate with. The movers finished our whole move in 5 hours, start to finish; including the time to pad and shrink wrap all furniture and taking apart/putting back together two beds. They were fast, professional, and friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend Dulles Logistics if you're moving. The service is fantastic and their prices can't be beat.

The two movers did a good job and moved everything without damage. It did take them a LOT longer than it should have given the small amount of items they were moving. If I had done the moving with my roommate, it likely would have taken the same amount of time. Overall, slightly above average.

Everyone I worked with starting the week before I moved to the day-of was very professional. The amount quoted was the amount I paid (no unexpected changes). The three movers were pros and treated the furniture with care. The used furniture blankets and materials to protect and secured everything in the moving truck. A-1 Moving Company even worked worked with me to add an additional stop into the itinerary. I highly recommend A-1 Moving Company.

I would use Great Nation Movers again without any hesitation. We appreciate that there was nearly a immediate response to all questions/concerns/communications. We had a slight logistical manuvering issue on day of our move but Rose and Mimi handled every professional and kept our family as their top priority. The movers were top notch and extremely professional and careful. Zero damage! This move was not easy, but they sure made it feel that way.

OMG! I was in a jam because Green Planet Movers (Groupon) didn't return my calls and didn't show up for the move. But at the very last minute, Ali responded to my Thumbtack Mover Project in seconds.🙌 Amazing. Fast. Friendly. And Honest Skyride ✈💨swooped in that same day in a few hours and saved the day! And they charged me less than those other guys. I want to say thanks, I really appreciated what y'all did for me. 🖒💯💯💯

Terrence and his helper are truly the definition of hard work. They unloaded a packed Uhaul that consisted a lot of heavy furniture and boxes AND brought all those things up FOUR flights of stairs!!! Not to mention in 90 degree weather. If you are looking for movers to get tough jobs done and that have great prices, Your Pro Movers is the way to go!

WOW! This was an amazing experience!! Professional from the very beginning. My daughter has a mirrored dresser that is very fragile that we needed to move to NYC and they arrived on time, wrapped it very carefully, loaded it, and got it up to her small NYC apt with no problems. I would recommend NK movers to anyone who is moving anything! Delightful experience.

If you are in need of movers I recommend that you USE RELOCATION SERVICES! I am beyond happy with their work. They were able to respond to my request immediately. They helped me with an in-home move including some very heavy furniture and a 7 piece reclining sectional. I was impressed with their speed, attention to detail and expertise in moving large pieces of furniture thru small staircases. I called them on Saturday morning and they came to fulfill my request in the early afternoon on the same day—AFTER they had already performed another move. Again, if you need movers, you don’t need to look anymore. You’ve found a GREAT company.

With all of my heart, I cannot recommend Po's Moving more. The two individuals he brought with him were so incredibly humble, hard-working and hustled the entire time. I simply could not have imagined a more difficult moving day where everything went wrong, but these men were such troopers. Also, PSA - help out your movers or at least keep them motivated. I understand you pay them to move your stuff, but expressing gratitude or assisting with a lamp here or there makes the day so much more pleasant for everyone involved. Please hire these men :) PS they also inspired me to get back to learning french.

Had the best moving experience! I need to say it was a short notice moving but I was lucky to find such an awesome team of movers. Alex and Nick were very careful with my belongings, left no trash behind and what was especially important they did communicate well and answered all my questions. I was happy with the price, time frame and professional work attitude. Thank you!

Wow! My wife and I loved the experience we had with EZ Movers. I had the pleasure of working directly with Evans. He was prompt and professional. We were in a bind and needed to move in just a couple days of our initial meeting. And he was still able to take care of us! He and his team were able to move us efficiently. They even showed up a little early so we could enjoy more of our day. I appreciate all of their help and highly recommend them!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
