I called DRYOUT when my lawn’s hose bibb broke due to frozen water. The broken pipe leaked water downstairs and made the carpet damp. Within the day, Russ responded, and by the following day he was at the house ready to mitigate and prevent further damage. He set up dehumidifiers, salvaged the carpet, and repaired the damage in the walls - both downstairs and in the crawlspace below the house. He’s an absolute professional at what he does and a pleasure to work with - very knowledgable and transparent about the whole process. What I really appreciate about working with Russ is the sense that he works with you as a team and is very responsive/proactive about telling you exactly what the issue is and what needs to be done. He also replaced and repaired some windows, window sills, and drywall that has been damaged, and repaired some cracked in an external stucco wall that was allowing water in. Ike was able to come by for an inspection quickly after reaching out and was able to start the work that day itself which was a huge relief. He was professional and communicative and let us know his plan for tackling the issue (mold in basement) every step of the way. During a full week of heavy rainfall we had a flood happen in our newly finished basement of our 1942 home which had been recently remodeled with an additional story. Needless to say I was extremely stressed as our carpets were soaked and I had no idea how the water had come into our basement. That same night I contacted Robert via email (found his services on Thumbtack) and he immediately responded and personally came to our house the next morning to view the damages. He had a restoration company come out that same day to pull out the carpet pads and dry out our basement. A few days later, after the basement was dried out, Robert personally came back out to investigate the cause of the water intrusion. With the added story to our house our fear was that the additional weight had cracked the foundation. But after pulling out the drywall he noticed the insulation around our old, unused chimney was soaked. There were also old water stains coming out of our old furnace flue which was connected to the old chimney. Robert proceeded to go outside and do numerous tests around the foundation as well as climbing to the top of our chimney to find that it was improperly capped. When he tested the top of the chimney by spraying water up towards it from the ground, as if it were raining, we witnessed water coming into the basement where the old water stains were apparent. Robert resealed the cap and wrote out a detailed report on what needs to be fixed to ensure a leak from the chimney would never happen again. Robert also directly called our insurance to explain what he found which helped our case in getting insurance to cover the costs. By Robert accurately detecting the cause of the flood insurance covered the costs of this project. Robert was very responsive and trustworthy. I could quickly tell that he was on our side and was compassionate towards our problem. His subcontractors were very nice and they got the job done right and efficiently. I highly recommend Robert for any home emergencies. He is extremely knowledgeable, trustworthy, compassionate and an all around good guy.

Ivan was the first to show up at our house when I reached out to contractors about the water in our laundry room. He correctly evaluated our situation (a clogged greywater drain that backed up into our laundry room), noting that given the circumstances, the damage to drywall and tile would likely be covered by insurance. He came ready to get to work with all the necessary equipment. He is knowledgeable about water intrusion issues and knew just what to do. He was also happy to work with our insurance company who did indeed cover the full cost of all his work. After his demo work was complete, he ensured the area was dry to required standards by closely monitoring the moisture in the environment with his equipment. He referred us to a contractor who reconstructed our laundry room including adding new drywall, tile, and paint. We are grateful for Ivan's quick and professional response that helped us get our laundry room back to working order.

Robert and Julie both care a lot about going above and beyond to help fix the water damage to my townhouse. The first contractor that my insurance company sent did not properly mitigate the damage. Robert went in and pointed out all the things they were not doing right, and helped get the proper fix done. There were also many things that the insurance company did not want to cover, but Robert fought hard to get a lot more than what was initially offered by the insurance company. The quality of the final work was excellent -- they made sure to return whenever I pointed anything out and made it right. I was also on the East Coast staying with family the whole time, and Robert/Julie were great taking care of things while I was remote. Someone stole the lockbox for the house during repairs, and Robert stepped in to help replace the lockbox and walk through the unit with police to ensure no one was squatting inside. The only area of improvement I could think of is that I'd like Robert to give more realistic time frames on how long the repairs and negotiations with insurance would take. Robert's an optimistic guy, and the expectations around time frame were much too optimistic. Bottom-line: If your highest priority is honest and high-quality work, definitely put Hawaiian at the top of your list. If finishing work by a specific date is critical, consider getting that date in writing.

We highly recommend Russ and his services! It was late at night when we found out we had water damage. Hawaiian Construction was excellent. Essentially, the project was to correct a serious problem that occurred on the outside corner of the garage where the main water pipe is. During the start of the project, the company obtained the necessary permits that were required by the City of Seattle. Although it took a considerable amount of time for the city to respond (primarily because construction demands appeared to be very high after the Covid lock downs), Robert maintained contact with the city and with me. Hawaiian Construction also worked with my insurance company to explain the damage, the repair estimates, and the permits required by the city. Because of the initial problem, the garage framing was seriously weakened and had to be replaced to shore the roof which had sagged when the garage framing had been seriously weakened. Also, the sagging of the garage roof required a replacement of the garage door. Moreover, the roof sag compromised the outside brick wall and the Seattle City Light electrical meter attached to the brick wall, both of which needed to be repaired. Robert Black personally explained what were the best solutions to the problems. We discussed the options and once the appropriate solution was chosen, he provided the estimate for the work and explained each item in detail. During the repair work the company was punctual and always showed up when it had established the arrival time. Ramon managed the repair project very well, doing a significant part of the work, and also managed a couple subcontractors. Although one of the Seattle City Codes had changed during the process, Robert worked with the insurance company to accommodate the necessary additional work to complete the project under the new code. Thanks to Robert and Ramon, the subcontractors' work was also excellent. All in all, I am very happy with Hawaiian Construction, its personnel, the choice of subcontractors, and its excellent work quality as well as the value associated with this high quality.
