We hired Jim to DJ our wedding reception, and Jim was an absolute pleasure to work with! Not only did he play great music and keep the party going, but he was extremely helpful in both planning what time to kick off the various events of the evening, and then keeping us on schedule throughout. I would highly recommend him!

Kate is AMAZING!!! Not only is she a super talented makeup artist, she's also a great listener. She was able to create the look I was describing and made sure I liked how everything was coming together multiple times. Kate definitely made me look my best for my wedding and my bridesmaids looked gorgeous, too. The makeup photographed beautifully. I can't recommend her highly enough.

Scott did a great job at our wedding. He was very accommodating with our many requests for the ceremony, dinner and reception music. He is very thorough and asks questions to make sure you are on the same page which I love! We had a lot of compliments on the music selection he played & the laser light show was great as well. I would recommend you give him a call for your next event!

We had a two day wedding and dennis was there for both events, one at the milwaukee courthouse and one at the sanger house gardens. Fabulous venues and beautiful weather. Dennis just sent us about 500 amazing shots from both events. He was fun and easy to work with. Very patient and agreeable with large family groupings. Others also commented how great he was.

Gazi is very knowledgeable with how and where to shoot photos. When shooting our wedding, we didn't even notice he was there documenting our special day! He was extremely professional, and made sure everyone had a chance of getting the shot they wanted (unfortunately for my husband and I! We're camera shy!) Gazi was on-time, very respectful, and we didn't feel overwhelmed at all. If you're looking for a photographer who will deliver beautiful and extraordinary photos while preserving the moments of your event, Gazi's the guy! I can guarantee you won't regret it. Thank you for your work and your patience with us! I will definitely recommend your services to anyone who needs a photographer! -The Hubbards

Garrett is absolutely wonderful to work with! One of my main concerns as a bride was to find a trustworthy and reliable vendor and he met every one of my concerns! Garrett offered creative ideas and was open to my ideas and incorporating them into the video. He is very reasonably priced and really impressed me with his ideas, sincerity and reliability. I haven't seen the finished product yet, but I'm sure Garrett will do an amazing job. I highly recommend him if you are looking for a wedding videographer!!!

Chris could not have possibly been better to work with for our backyard wedding reception. Not only is he incredibly polite and patient, but he's very accommodating, flexible, approachable, and can really keep a party going. I received countless compliments on how great the music was, and my guests had no problem goofing around with him and getting any song they wanted to hear played. I would use his services again in a heartbeat and recommend him to anyone! Chris went above and beyond, we couldn't have been happier. Thank you, Chris!!!

The entire experience was great. Donna and frank were great to work with. Donna worked with me to create the menu and appropriate portion size for the number of guests. Food was great, folks commented that the food was home made and delicious. I will recommend Frankie’s as a great catering service. Wife and I will try their restaurant next.

I share a few pictures from my Italian wedding and Green Ivy worked their magic to recreate what we had. The flowers were amazing and I couldn't have asked for more. I am truly thankful that I decided to go ahead with flowers and that they worked with my budget and matched them so perfectly to my images.

Prairie was absolutely fantastic and I'd highly recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer. Initially, we booked her for her affordable quote and the quality of her portfolio. Leading up to the wedding, Prairie was professional in every encounter and made contact multiple times. She was punctual and was willing to head to multiple locations, which was a bonus. What I'm most impressed with was her ability to recognize poignant moments as they were happening, even though I didn't think they were particularly meaningful at the time - she photographed a lot of little details that didn't seem significant as they were happening. Prairie had our photos edited and ready within a week, and she even delivered them on a flash drive so we have a physical copy. I'd hire her again in a heartbeat.

Kristin and her assistant set up my wedding table decorations, and came back later to break down the tables and clean up the venue (we rented a state park building, so no staff.) Kristin was timely, polite, enthusiastic about helping to make our wedding a success, and she did a fantastic job. I would recommend her to anyone who's looking for help with their wedding!!

Bonnie is a talented photographer and a wonderful person! We have had the privilege of having Bonnie capture some very important moments for us- from our wedding to maternity pictures to family portraits- and we can't say enough about how much we love the images Bonnie has created with us! Bonnie is very flexible and versatile; we have done studio sessions, a shoot in a park, wedding photos (ceremony, portraits, and reception), and even family photos at our home. Bonnie is great with our daughter, too! She has great vision, a wonderful personality, and her pricing is competitive and affordable. I can't say enough about how much we LOVE working with Bonnie!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
