Andi is a really awesome guitar instructor. I started guitar lessons with him with absolutely no experience playing an instrument or knowing how to read sheet music. But because he is really patient, knowledgeable, and at ease with teaching, I have been able to pick up how to play the guitar and reading the tab handouts he gives me after each lesson. He goes at the students pace and is willing to change his lessons to teach what new songs I want to learn. After each lesson I am always inspired and reminded why I wanted to take up guitar lessons in the first place. Andi was the very first instructor I met and Im glad I did. I could not recommend him highly enough as an instructor.
I've been taking guitar and singing lessons with David for a few months, and I've got to say I've had a really great time learning from him! David is an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable teacher who clearly cares about his students and their goals, and better still has played and performed with the artists that I like best. It took me a while to find a teacher who was willing to teach me the music I wanted to play instead of starting with their core competence, so it was really refreshing that within a month or two with plenty of practice I was able to learn one of my favorite songs (Three Rounds and a Sound by Blind Pilot, if you're curious), and a little longer to start singing it, which I was really stoked about. He has been great about breaking things down when the piece we're working on is too challenging. David has also pushed me to pursue my goal of creating music, helping along the way to create melodies and lyrics. I have to say, it takes a great teacher to get me to sing and to share lyrics with them (do you know how embarrassing that can be?). I could go on, but suffice it to say, David is a great teacher, and I'm really glad I started taking lessons with him.
Garrick is very patient and engaging with our 7yo son. Our son loves his guitar lessons and wants to play. He's the real deal with his own gigs and he teaches using music we love. Garrick gets 5 stars because he unexpectedly requested to join us when we purchased our guitar, picked an appropriate used(!) one with metal strings and had it modified to bring the frets in closer for small fingers. His lessons feel customized. We recommend Garrick!
Sedat is an excellent teacher for my 10 year old. He has lots of patience and knows how to teach kids. He is able to help with easier ways to teach chords and makes the class enjoyable. My child loves his class and he encourages to pick their favorite songs to play. I would highly recommend Sedat for kids guitar lessons.
David is a great teacher who isn't doing this for the money but to teach the art of music. He has stayed at my house twice as long as what I payed for and added no extra charge. He also gives a wide range of ways to relate his teachings. (IE. I take bass lessons but we commonly go to the piano to practice and drill) all in all David is a great teacher and highly recommended. Definite 5 stars.
Just finished my 2nd guitar lesson with Steve this week. Steve is professional and very patient with beginners like me. I also really like how he incorporates learning to read sheet music into his lessons.
I have been taking guitar lessons from Jules for several months and am very happy with how much I have learned. All his lessons have educational purposes and he teaches through fun songs that make practicing enjoyable. He is very professional, knowledgeable and flexible with my schedule. I highly recommend him for beginners and experienced players alike. Susan
Rick is a great guitar teacher at any level. He can teach everything from theory to practical playing and make it fun. I highly recommend him if you want to learn the correct way of playing.
I have had guitar lessons with John Lewis for two months now and I have to say without a doubt, he has exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only is he a very talented musician, he also possesses a rare talent for communicating and teaching guitar and musical concepts that are sometimes hard to grasp. He is patient, kind, encouraging, inspirational, and very creative in his teaching style. He knows how to judge exactly how much information I can handle at one time and I never leave feeling overwhelmed. He always makes the lessons interesting, challenging, and FUN! I am so grateful to have found this wonderful teacher and I highly recommend him to anyone from beginner to advanced. He truly is the Best of the Best!!!
We have been working with Ms. White since January 2016. My boys, ages 6 and 7 walked out of their very first lesson knowing “Mary Had A Little Lamb” and this quick, concrete “take away” gave them a sense of excitement and confidence! Ms. White is very thoughtful with her instruction. She has realistic and responsive goals--like helping accommodate a variety of sports seasons and understanding the difference between her student’s temperament and attention span. She has nurtured an intrinsic and age appropriate interest and exposure to the world of piano playing. My boys pick up and play piano on their own and they love teaching their father and me their new skills. I would highly recommend Ms. White for piano lessons.
I am a beginner and didn't know much about playing Guitar and Music theory. She is a great teacher, she always has a way to make me understand the critical aspects. Within no time Judy has brought me to a level where I could read music and play basic chords and make transitions. Playing guitar is a combination of the lessons you get from your guitar teacher and practicing a lot, judy has been really good in making me focus on the right aspects of guitar playing. So far everything has been great. Looking forward to more great lessons.
About Jerry: Jerry knows bass. He knows technique, he knows theory, he knows gear, he knows music history (past and present). Most importantly, he knows how students learn bass and thus he is able to tell you what you need to know and what to practice in oder to improve. My Experience: Jerry immediately found the holes in my technique and gave me a few lessons in bass theory that I hadn't already figured out by trial-and-error and applying theory from other instruments. He gave me exercises to work on to improve my chops and get my playing to a higher technical level. He taught me about the intricacies of the bass instrument and the gear associated in creating bass tone. He gave me songs and bass players to listen to and play along to in order to get the basslines I wrote sounding more mature and appropriate for the style/genre of their songs. And all the while he would immerse me in the culture of bass. Turning me on to the history of the instrument, the evolution of how it has been played through the years, the different styles of playing and how they fit into each genre, and of course the great players of the past and present. His body of knowledge around bass is just staggering. About Me: I'd been playing bass for fun for about 10 years at jams and also for about 6 months in an americana band. I'm also a serious keys player and know my music theory solid. Then I started playing bass in a funk/soul band with more technical players and realized I needed to develop some serious chops to keep up. I chose Jerry because he wasn't a guitar-player teaching bass, he's a died-in-the-wool bass player who had been teaching for years. I wanted a specialist, not someone who was going to teach me basic theory.
"I had guitar lessons with the Guitar Institute of Learning for a little over 3 years, and those years were the first 3 years I had in my experience of ever playing the guitar. I learned so much from my teacher. He taught me Jazz Standards, folk songs, and even things that were accommodated to my own interests as well! More importantly, I gained a life changing perspective from the songs, chords, melodies and harmonies that my teacher taught me. The concepts never get old. Guitar Institute of Learning does not just teach you how to play guitar, but how to practice it and how to become a great musician. It can be one thing to play an instrument, but to know how to play with other musicians requires a development of playing with others and applying your knowledge. Which is what guitar institute of learning can help you do. Everything I learned from GIOL literally changed my view and appreciation for music once I became more aware of the music world. I learned things that, once I looked back and realized what I was learning, I was so surprised and grateful that I was shown such great songs. I will always have a gratitude for the class and vast repertoire that they had opened me up to. As a musician, now playing guitar for 8 years, I would not be where I am today without those lessons. Knowing how important practicing everyday is, and finding how you define music will help you find an appreciation and motivation from and beyond these lessons." -Lawrence S. Abbott
Iam a professional Guitarist and have been taking lessons from Bob for a bout 2 months now. I inicially contacted Bob becaused I had reached an impasse with my playing. Within the first couple of lessons I learned to negociate the fret board with more ease and confidence. Bob has a solid foundation in theory as well as teaching the student the pratical application of the theory. I was able to apply the learning material to my playing almost immediately after my lesson. Bob is very patient and takes the time to explain the material so it is well understood before the lessons are over. I highly reccommend Bob to anyone who wants to take their playing to the next level.
great! iv been getting guitar lessons for a year now and i've learned so much about music and about the guitar and have improved so much as a songwriter and musician.
Ken is able to break down the process of learning the guitar into easy and manageable steps. Great teacher !
Geoff started giving me guitar lessons 22yrs ago. He's knowledgeable, patient and has mad skills. I've learned a lot and am really glad I learned to play. Thanks Geoff.
Cherie is a great instructor. Before I started lessons with her I was trying to teach myself and found that I’d hit a wall, just wasn’t getting where I wanted to be, she helped me out of that rut. She opened up my options by laying down the basics, then expanded my palette based on where I wanted to go with songs and guitar. She likes to balance what she calls the weigh-lifting of guitar and the fun stuff - exercises and songs. I never felt bored or very frustrated. She pays attention. I really felt she was teaching me what I needed to learn. She also teaches singing lessons and we worked a bit on my vocals during our guitar lessons. Was a nice add-on. She’s a pro and very easy to work with.
My three boys play a mixture of guitar and piano. Ryan keeps them interested in playing songs that they pick and want to play. He has made music a fun part of our household.
Conrad was an incredible teacher for my son. Lessons were always fun and he was very patient, allowing my son to learn at his own pace. My son always looked forward to his lessons as the highlight of his week. Conrad is also very good at teaching a variety of styles from rock to jazz. Highest possible recommendation.

I'm a 24-year old songwriter and guitarist from San Jose, California. I became interested in making music throughout my school band programs. Since then, I've never loved anything so much. As a teacher, my lessons go beyond learning scales and chords and countless technicalities. I can help you understand what your goals are as a musician and who you want to be. From there, we'll tailor your lesson plan to cater to those goals. My personal goal as an educator is to help you pave your own path towards a fulfilling life as a creative individual. Given, there are tedious hills to overcome as an aspiring guitarist, but I'll be there to help you through this and straight to the fun stuff in a timely manner.
