    Ed Lanthier

    (18 reviews)

Learn guitar lessons and music theory instruction in MIRA MESA with a Berklee College of Music graduate. Hello, my name is Ed. With over 20 years' experience in the music industry, I am now offering instruction in guitar and music theory to all ages and levels. I cover the following genres: * Classic Rock * Hard Rock/Heavy Metal * Blues * Reggae * Pop * Funk * Folk * Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar Lessons are tailored to students' individual needs. Instruction available includes the following: * Guitar Technique * Improvisation * Music Theory * Songwriting/Arranging Learning should be fun as well as educational! All lessons are taught in a relaxed, supportive and enjoyable atmosphere! Let me teach you how to learn the songs you love and how to create music of your own! Please take a moment to read some testimonials from former students: "To whom it may concern, I took guitar and music theory lessons from Ed Lanthier during 2008 and 2009. During this time my guitar playing, through Ed's guidance, improved substantially. His understanding of many musical styles taught me to integrate various genres into my own personal playing style. The incorporation of music theory into my lessons helped me understand the basics of theory as well as some more advanced aspects of harmony. Ed took the time to be sure I understood my lessons and was always patiently reviewed parts I didn't understand. Ed's love of music was evident during lessons and during conversations about music. If Ed was to return to the Boston area I would definitely take lessons from him again. Albert Solbjor Waltham, MA" "To Whom It May Concern: It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Ed Lanthier. After not 'connecting' with two previous teachers, Ed brought an enthusiasm and love of the guitar to me that was easily digestible and accessible. He understood exactly where I was, what my frustrations were, what my strengths and weaknesses were, and how to get me to respond. Over the course of a year, I went from bad (terrible technique and zero knowledge of theory) to playing blues shows with friends, with confidence. Ed was patient, friendly, and took great pride and joy in my progression. Although it was technically a job, it never felt that way. He wanted me to succeed, and I was always aware of that. I'm not sure who is reading this, but whoever you are, you would be wise to let Ed teach you as well. Sincerely, John R. Noonan" "To Whom It May Concern: I was a student of Ed Lanthier between 2008 and 2009, during which time my skills have grown exponentially. Prior to studying with Ed I have had a run of bad luck with teachers who were either uninterested or unable to teach me what I wanted to know. Because of this I took a long break from trying to find a suitable teacher. My playing became stagnant and uninteresting to me and I decided to once again reach out and take a chance with a new teacher. This is when I found Ed. Studying with Ed brought new life back into my playing, and then some. I learned more in the year with Ed than I ever thought possible. He opened my eyes to new techniques and was able to understand what I was looking for from my guitar, he was very capable with helping me reach my goals. Ed teaches with a patience, knowledge and understanding that I have never found in the numerous teachers I've had in the past. He is a truly unique and gifted individual. Boston has lost a great resource. Sincerely, Jeff Duquette Dracut, MA"

  • Montesano Music

My services range from assisting guitarists with fresh chords to arranging and producing master quality recordings. So much of the creative process happens in the recording studio, and one of my main roles is to create a relaxed atmosphere, especially for vocalists. I will help you bring the best out of your voice by feedback and suggestions. I never rush the process. If you do the work of experimentation behind the mic, we will find the perfect sound you are looking for. You can accomplish every stage of the recording process at my studio. Editing is the tedious process I do on my own time to perfect your tracks. Also, you don't have to bring in musicians for each part if you don't have a band. If you're a writer or vocalist and you want to hear each of your songs as a finished product and then move on to the next one, you've come to the right place.

  • Scott Humphries Music Lessons

    (5 reviews)

I teach beginning music lessons for guitar, piano, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele. I teach beginning bluegrass, classical guitar, pop music, blues, rock and roll, and country music. I currently have a senior class at the Norman Park Senior Center here in Chula Vista. I have students from 8 to 70. I want my students to be able to read music and hopefully go on to play music for the rest of their lives. I have one student who is a music major at Southwestern College. He is taking private lessons with emphasis on music theory. I have given him instructions on major and minor scales, harmonics, and melodic scales as well as solo songs to perform for his instructors. I have 46 years of experience playing guitar, piano, and voice and about 10 years of experience playing bass guitar. I am a working musician. I perform with two ukulele groups locally. I also play with another fellow, preforming '50s, '60s, oldies, country, and Hawaiian songs. At age 8, I started out playing piano, and after I turned 12, my father bought my first guitar, which I still have. I went to College of Southern Idaho as a music major. I graduated from Boise State University in 1980 with a degree in music education. My major instrument was classical guitar.

What do you love about your job?

Being your own boss has its perks. I love working as hard or as little as I like. It's about having the independence to work as hard as I want towards my goals.

What or who inspired you to start your own business?

Our goals when we started our own business were to take control of our future and hold all the rights for our band business. "Jet West" has grown consistently year over year, and we share our profits equally among its partners. One day, I woke up and decided that the corporate world was not for me. I want to work every day towards a sustainable future within the music industry.
