We had a great team building cooking class with Rocco. The food was tasty and we learned a lot of great tips for how to cook better at home. We really appreciated that the class was both practical and fun.

We hired Sat to provide dinner for a party of 10 at a vacation home in Dillon Beach. It was an intimate wedding celebration, and Sat fit right in. Not only was the food excellent, but Sat was very personable. We really enjoyed having him there, cooking dinner and serving appetizers as we had our celebration, and then serving us dinner. Sat was very accommodating in customizing the menu for us. We had meat eaters, a vegetarian, and two people who required gluten free food. The main course offerings included steak and lobster, chicken, and a vegetarian special. The presentation of the food was beautiful, and Sat did an excellent cleanup job after dinner. The price seemed more than fair for the outstanding service provided. We will happily hire Sat again next time we want a meal provided by a personal chef!

Grace catered our baby's first birthday party and everyone raved about the food! The salmon cream cheese caper rolls were my favorite! She was very communicative and willing to do whatever we needed (including making everything gluten-free). Setup was a snap and everything was yummy. Thank you so much!

We hired Chef Graham last-minute to help with a fun event for a 19th birthday, where the birthday girl wanted her friends and family to participate in the cooking process. I just made the booking and wasn't personally in attendance for the event, but I heard from all who where that Chef Graham was incredibly skilled and charming and an all-around great find. Highly recommended and thanks again!

Angela made our family a dinner. We are not gluten free or vegetarian normally, so it's an endorsement when our kids eat vegetarian. We had a cauliflower soup, a couple of different vegetarian items like stuffed mushrooms for the main meal and several dessert items. It was all delicious, but the things that were especially amazing were the fresh tomatoe tarts (gluten free-couldn't tell) and these strawberry and cream tartlets (different crust from the tomato.) We left the table fat and happy! I have also had her cream filled chocolate cupcakes on another occasion which were also spectacular.

Wow! Working with Chef Traci was a great experience. I hired her to cater breakfast for a bachelorette party. We had many dietary restrictions and they were not a problem for her at all, and she was very communicative. We had a light/casual breakfast of roasted veggie quiche with hashbrown crust (gluten-free, dairy-free), peach muffins (dairy-free), banana oat muffins (gluten-free, dairy-free), and a delicious fruit salad with apples, oranges, dates, raisins, almonds, and coconut flakes. Her delivery driver arrived promptly on time and gave me a call when he was close. I thought the price was great and cheaper than other places I had looked at. All of the girls LOVED the food, probably some of the best gluten-free muffins I have ever had. I highly recommend working with Chef Traci!

James was great to work with, very responsive and flexible. While I wasn't able to attend the event and taste his food, our team said that everything tasted great! I look forward to trying his gluten-free fried chicken in the future!

I have been working with Marlène and her company Blue pudding for over 3 years now. Her company providing delicious food, most of the time Canapés for up to 100 of my clients. I run bespoke Wine tastings all around London and I trust Marlène for her creativity, she always surprise everyone with new flavours, and she can also adapt her recipes for my clients intolerant to gluten, milk...My clients are so happy that they hire her for their own private party. I have heard just good from Garden parties for birthdays, or BBQ parties. I won't stop recommend her cuisine!

Mariana Carvallo catered our party of 70 guests for the Stanford Division of Hematology on October 15th, 2016. She and her staff of 2 additional kitchen staff/servers, as well as bartender put on a spectacular event. She is a local culinary treasure not to be ignored. Below I have pasted the menu she served which honored vegetarians/vegans and gluten-free dietary needs. The guests absolutely adored the cuisine. The bartending service was top notch and many commented that it was a party to remember. Mariana and her staff cleaned up afterwards and left the our kitchen and outside area pristine. The professionalism was highly impressive. The feedback was so positive that I have every intention of hiring her for all my future catering needs. She's my go-to person now. I worked with Unica Party Rentals who works with Mariana and that aspect worked seamlessly as well. Thanks to you and your team Mariana and all my best to your future which looks very bright (just stay in the Bay Area so I can work with you again :) My best, Jason Gotlib Starters Roasted Artichoke Hearts Flatbread Lemon Dill Yogurt, Arugula, Shaved Parmesan (vegetarian) Mini Sirloin Sliders fig and sharp cheddar on toasted brioche bun Wild Mushroom and Fontina Empanadas Salsa Verde (vegetarian) Salmon and Avocado Tartare served on rice crisp (gluten free ) Sweet Butternut Soup Shooters Toasted Pepitas (vegan) Salad Shaved Asparagus, Avocado, Little Gem Salad Ricotta Salata and Mint Lemon Vinaigrette Entree Mediterranean Spiced Roasted Chicken served with crispy potatoes and root vegetables israeli cous cous with herbs, toasted pinenuts and pomegranate Dessert Bar Assortment of Mini Desserts Merengues, German Chocolate Cake, Russian Cookies, Macaroons, Pot de Creme

Tiffanie was amazing. I was planning a large production and needed someone to come in and feed 60+ people with varying dietary restrictions (gluten free, vegan, vegetarians, and very carnivorous people) in a very small and oddly shaped back stage area. She nailed it. 100%. I had to give her about 5 seconds of instruction and she did everything on her own and even worked with the venue on her own. I didn't have to coordinate it at all which was PERFECT. She and her staff were very sweet and friendly. Everyone was really impressed by the spread. Everyone loved her food so much, we're going to hire her on to do catered lunches on Fridays at work!

Chef Tony did an amazing job cooking & catering my 65th Milestone birthday celebration this past December. We had over 70 guests and only heard "rave reviews" of Chef Tony, his food & his service. He exceeded my high expectations! Chef Tony even surprised me with a delicious gluten-free birthday cake 😜. Chef Tony is my "Go To"guy when hosting events!

It is a pleasure to recommend Anita Alicea, who worked for our family for three and a half years. I will focus on her her excellent skills planning, shopping for, and preparing meals for us, which she did twice a week. (She was also responsible and valuable on occasions my wife needed help with her office work and driving to medical appointments.) Anita is a consummate professional. Before she started, she reviewed the many dietary constraints our family has: my son has an unusual range of food allergies, and my wife practices a gluten-free, low-sodium diet. She has without exception honored these constraints, and still managed to cook consistently terrific meals: balanced, attractively presented, and tasty. I just reviewed emails I’ve sent to compliment her; there have been so many things we have really enjoyed. Here’s a sample: Consistently good tossed salads; rice and potatoes always to perfection; chops, sauerkraut, soups, roasts, mushrooms, salmon, brussel sprouts, barbecued ribs, bok choy, carrots, cabbage, other veggies; amazing sauces, “insanely great” brisket, “cosmic” corned beef (quoting myself). Furthermore, Anita is responsible; she missed hardly any days for any reason. She is also flexible, e.g., adapting quickly to changes in our needs when for example one or the other of our now young adult children were out of town for extended times. I cannot recommend Anita highly enough. You will be lucky to have her work for you. Please feel free to call me if you have any further questions. Jon Frankle (408)-464-9178

David is a fantastic chef. David prepared dinner for me and a few couples and did a great job. I was struggling with what to serve and David had some great ideas, and asked me great questions (what did my space look like, what kind of food, passed hors doevres or full dinner, etc). David also can work with a ton of food allergies/concerns (we had a gluten free, dairy free woman in attendance and he was able to handle all that). I would HIGHLY recommend Chef David for any event.

Allegra is amazing! I am actually quite fearful of cooking and she crafted a dish for me that was easy, delicious and met all my crazy food allergy requirements. Allegra taught me how to make the most super yummy Christmas Lima Bean Stew and she adapted the recipe for me so that it was vegan, and gluten free. The food was delicious and I even re-made it in bulk for a birthday party. Everyone loved it. Allegra is also awesome to work with in general. She is a lovely woman with a warm, kind, upbeat spirit. Very inspiring.

Brett and Ali built a beautiful cafe and smoothie bar in New Hampshire which I ate at frequently. I have a lot of health issues and choose to eat a really clean diet of mostly organic food, I am also gluten free and they had tons of options for me on their menu. I was never disappointed as the food was consistent and fresh but had tons of flavor and was very creative. They also offered in home private cooking lessons so I hired them to teach me and my friends how to prepare some of my favorite dishes from their cafe. They were both fun and professional. I also hired them to cater an event I hosted in my home for 30 people. They were able to accommodate my friends with food preferences like gluten free, vegan, and paleo. They are very knowledgable. Everyone had nothing but great things to say about the food and many of my friends ended up hiring them for other home gatherings. Would definitely recommend hiring them.

John is a great chef! His food is delicious and he is very accommodating to our dietary preferences (gluten/dairy free and very picky with veggies). I would recommend John for any occasion! We hired him to cook for us weekly after our first son was born because we know we won't have the time or energy to cook. Having healthy and delicious food already there anytime we're hungry while sleep deprived is the best thing ever. John's food philosophy is also in line with ours - locally sourced, in season and organic. Again, highly recommended :)

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.
