Haul Off Flooring, that turned into more. When we started this project we only needed the flooring that was flooded hauled off, then we found drywall, doors, and more that needed hauled off too. David was great to take it all.

Dave and Junior did a good job removing our old appliances. They did the installation in a reasonable amount of time. They were flexible and able to solve the instal and connection problems. My only suggestion is that they be more careful of woodwork. Three of the screws into the wood cabinets around the oven, split the wood because they didn't pre-drill the holes with a small drill bit. Other than that, they were very helpful and very pleasant to work with.

Dave was very professional, always on time, and took the time to do the job right. I appreciated how reliable he was and his attention to detail. He completed a subway tile backsplash, installed a faucet, gas cooktop, as well as an outdoor light fixture. He adjusted many little things in my kitchen that were off (cabinet hinges, doors) and did some painting for me. I think he can do it all in terms of home improvement and I would definitely work with him in the future and recommend him for other projects.

New flooring was installed beautifully and interwoven with existing floor and entire area was refinished. The color worked well, however the finish didn't match the finish on an adjacent pre-existing floor. They cam back and redid the finish to a much better outcome. We appreciated that they were more than willing to make it the way we wanted.

I had the pleasure of working with Radek on my flooring project. My project was to replace old carpet and install new flooring in the living room and in the kitchen. He even helped move furniture and appliances in and out. This was very helpful especially since other flooring companies had expressed reluctance to move anything after finishing the project, Radek definitely went above and beyond. Will definitely be considering him for other projects in the future!

We had a sizable project for Nabile, interior and exterior of our 4,000 Square foot house. We spent a lot of time together as I work from my home office. He was gracious and pleasant to work with. He was very aware of the intrusion that two weeks of working inside our home could cause, and focused on being flexible to adjust his work to our holidays, meetings etc.. He also replaced the majority of our lighting fixtures and fans. Also helped with other tasks that were created by the work. I have recommended him to others and will continue to do so. Also looking at using him next year for flooring in some of our rental units. Perfect combination, delightful to work with, solid work and reasonable prices.

Dez and his crew are amazing. We hired him to restore the hard wood floor of our ranch home. The previous owner had kept carpet over it for years, the har wood underneath was out of shape. He did magic. The hard wood floor looks like new. He went above and beyond to give us a lot advice on flooring. He is very knowledgeable in the area. I am really amazed by the final product. We have a lot of quotes but decided to go with him and we are not regretting. They cleaned very well after their done. Even when I have some request he was responsive to followed through to it. He is going to come back install vinyl flooring in our basement. We are excited to have him come back work for us again. We highly recommend him. Thanks a lot Dez.

Eric and his father Raul did a great job. Provided a reasonable quote and completed the work in a timely manner. Job included a large patio installation in the backyard as well as stamped concrete extensions on the sides of front driveway. Job was completed on time and they cleaned up the area afterwards. (I thought I could upload photos but am having difficulty with the app)

Great work and our floors look outstanding! Dan and his crew installed over our radiant flooring which took patience and extra work to avoid hitting the tubes with staples. Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a job done right.

We needed roughly 1200 square feet of solid hardwood flooring installed on the main level of our home. Toski's services were competitively priced and they did quality work. We were really impressed with how patient they were about our questions and requests. They are interested in providing a quality end product and not just getting the job done quickly. We found them to be professional and considerate and highly recommend Toski Floors.

We can’t say enough great things about these guys. Very responsive, great value, very knowledgeable and they do beautiful work. We did a complete remodel of our main floor and they installed and finished our red oak floors. They even mixed a custom stain color to make it what we wanted. Thank you!!

Could not be happier!! Mike deserves every star an A+. My flooring was a big purchase for me and I deliberated about the decision. I genuinely enjoyed working with him. I'd recommend Mike 10x over. I chose a quickstep reclaimé laminate and I looove the way it looks. Seems so much better than what you can find at Home Depot or Lowes and in the end competitive pricing. So glad I shopped around and made the best choice.

I ordered carpet from a local carpet store and Kevin and the crew from KGW Flooring installed it. I am very impressed and pleased with the work they did. KGW Flooring charges very reasonable price for excellent work they do. Also, they were patient when the carpet store sent me the wrong carpet at first. Eventually, when the right carpet arrived, Kevin and the crew were able to finish it beautifully. They took time to do it instead of rushing through it, especially stairs which turned out much nicer than what it was before. They went beyond my expectations and I love my carpet because of how they installed it. I recommend KGW Flooring to anyone who wants to install the carpet because of their professionalism and work quality. They certainly have lots of experience on how to install the carpet.

Dana, Shannon and James were able to tackle a variety of projects that I needed completed within a limited time frame in order to get my home ready to sell. Due to being a military family, I had to do this all on my own until Dana, Shannon and James came along. Let me tell you, they do it all and they do an incredible job... from interior to exterior even creating and installing customized shelving, wood flooring transitions, and a stand up shower. Their professionalism, expertise, attention to detail, customer service and can-do attitude made me excited to work with them. I will definitely have them help me on future projects as well as refer them to my friends and family.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
