Chef and Christi provided the most elegant and perfect Christmas Eve dinner for my family! We were so pleased with the service, food quality and presentation, table set up and decor, and overall experience they provided. Everything was provided from dishes to utensils to drink ware and all was cleaned up afterwards. It was so amazing to not have to do a thing!!!!! :) This will hopefully be the first of many dinners at our home with chef Shaun and cristi!!!

Busy Bee, was able to reschedule me last minute. They came and did a great job cleaning out my old place. They cleaned everything, even behind the refrigerator. It is now move in ready for new tenants. I was really impressed as she has all cleaning supplies color coded, depending what room needs to be cleaned, you never have to be worried that a wash cloth from the bathroom will be used in the kitchen or vice versa. We are already in talk about cleaning my new place on a regular basis. You will not be disappointed hiring Busy Bee.

Chef Debra provided both hot and cold tidbits and a birthday cake for my eightieth birthday party. I am still (3wks later)receiving compliments on the food. The cake, the liver pate, and the pear and proscutto hot offering were the top contenders.

Chef Tiffanie came to our rescue. We were expecting 100 people for a company event and our caterer canceled 4 days before. Fortunately, Chef Tiffanie was available. She was very responsive, nailing down the details that very day. She had great suggestions and thought of every detail. Everyone enjoyed the food. Chef Tiffanie and her sous chef were great! We would definitely use them again.

I have nothing but wonderful superlatives to describe Chef Bendel. He is extremely professional, pays wonderful attention to detail and most importantly his food is delicious. He catered a cocktail party for 50 people, and all of my guests were extremely complimentary of the food. I will definitely be using Lettuce Do It again!

Southern Accents is amazing. Their customer service, professionalism, and attention to detail is incredible. They were an absolute joy to work with AND the food was awesome. We had so many comments and everyone agreed that it was the best catered food they had ever had - I agree too. Heidi, Beau and Chef Jessie went above and beyond. I highly recommend this catering company - you won't go wrong hiring them. We had the beef tenderloin, chicken piccata, roasted potatoes, veggies, salad and Strawberry Shortcake - so delicious!

Brian and the entire team at Crave Culinaire helped make my event one my family will never forget. We hired Crave to cook a private meal for our family at home, followed by a catered party on New Year's Eve. The food quality and presentation greatly exceeded our expectations, as did the professionalism of the staff. My family is difficult to please when it comes to food, and we all agreed, the meal prepared by Crave Culinare was one of the best we have had in Naples, Florida.

My border collie suffers from neurological damage which causes severe tremors in her legs. Ms. Bailey of Bark Bark Body Work uses massage to reduce the tremors, affording my dog days of improved mobility. Ms. Bailey quickly made my dog feel at ease with being touched at the first session, and my dog soon learned that she would feel better when Ms. Bailey worked on her. Ms. Bailey is professional and prompt for her home visits. She asks if I have any particular concerns regarding my dog’s needs and addresses those concerns in the session. She is highly knowledgeable regarding animal nutrition and other health-related issues. I am very pleased with her services, and believe them to be invaluable in keeping my dog active. I highly recommend Bark Bark Body Work for canine massage.

To make an omelette, scrambled eggs, poached eggs or eggs mimosas seem to be the abc of someone in a kitchen. But if you want to make it “tasty” and fluffy for the omelette, Chef Rogers will show you how simple it can be and how to make it to everyone’s private taste. In no time I knew which ingredients to mix for a healthy breakfast or a rich dinner once you only have eggs left in your refrigerator. Chef Rogers also came to organise a business dinner for six person I had only mingled with at the office. They all are still talking about it. He took care of everything, had excellent ideas for a “first time” invitation. The portions were perfect, the vegetables accompanying the roast were so tasty that no one left them in their plate and at the end of the dinner, he left a spotless kitchen. Definitely a delightful evening when I did not have to get up to go back and forth to the kitchen for a very successful meal. Thank you Chef Rogers.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
