Phil is a high quality contractor. He really knows construction and roofing in particular. He repaired a small leak in my roof at a very reasonable rate. The repaired area is not noticeable, even on close inspection. Other contractors wanted to replace an entire section of roof due to one small problem area, that no one but Phil could find. This would have left the roof with 2 different shades of shingles, and an obvious unsightly repair. This literally saved me thousands of dollars.

Alex and Statewide Roofing just completed an entire roof replacement job on my home. Not only was his crew courteous,, they also were on time and stayed late to work on the job. Every evening the yard was cleaned of debris. Alex and his crew also replaced some rotten wood and a replace a little siding for me then touched up the job with paint. I would recommend Statewide Roofing Co if you need a small repair or an entire replacement! Thank you, Alex!

I bid out several roofers and Southern Roofing Solutions was among the most aggressively priced, but beyond that, Bryan communicated well throughout the estimate process and answered all of my many questions about materials, scheduling and warranty. I am very satisfied with the overall professionalism and would recommend them for any roofing installation jobs. A good solid and fair job by any standard IMO.

Rush was very personable and took the time to explain everything to me about the process of getting my gutters done. I'm still waiting for the appointment to be set to get my gutters done but I feel confident that Gutter Master Roofing & Construction will do a great job. I'll be using them again to do other projects around my home.

I needed a quick quote on a roofing repair. Sherlock Roofing was prompt, professional, and thorough. Couldn't have asked for more! We ended up not moving forward on the purchase of the home due to the amount of work needed, but wouldn't hesitate to use them for our future roofing needs, based on the pleasant experience I had.

The Art of Home Improvement replaced the roof on our house in Rome. We are completely happy and very satisfied with our new roof, all the way around – quality of workmanship, materials, labor, value, communication, thoroughness, and care and clean-up of our property. Ray's bid was based on data that he used that is specific to our older home. His bid was accurate, thorough and fair. Very professional! When Ray and I met early on to first discuss the roof replacement, he offered many options concerning construction and shingle types. He explained up front what the entire job would entail from beginning to end. Our home is in the historic district, and is nearly 80 years old. Ray updated the old venting system with new ridge vents, which will lower heating and cooling bills, new drip edge and new flashing all around. Ray left shingle samples with us, and we were able to hold the sample up to our cedar shingle siding, in order to choose the right color shingle. We were considering a light color which would not have looked good on our home at all, but when we were able to compare a sample next to our siding, we realized how a darker, slate color was the perfect choice. It looks great! Ray kept in contact with us prior to beginning the job. If I had a question or concern, Ray returned my calls or emails promptly. He made it clear that he is available anytime if I have a concern following completion. All is good. The crew was great! All are very nice young people. I have done some roofing in my younger days, and I can they know what they are doing. Ray and his crew worked hard, non-stop, all day to complete the job. They covered the driveway, our plants and shrubs and our deck with tarps to protect them. No plant was damaged, and our deck looks as good as always. Clean up was extremely thorough. They cleaned the gutters, swept up and picked up any small shingle materials, and then they used magnets and a magnetic roller to pick up stray roofing nails that may have missed the tarps. We have had no nail issues. Ray even left a large magnet wand with us, so that when the dumpster was hauled away the following morning, I could use it to pick up nails and metal debris that may have been under the dumpster, or had fallen out when they winched the dumpster up to the truck. Ray is a nice man, and it was a pleasure to do business with The Art of Home Improvement. Ray was on time with each and every appointment, start time and completion time that he gave us. Ray returned each and every communication with us in a very timely manner. The Art of Home Improvement’s customer service is top notch! We love our new roof! Our house looks great!! The quality of construction, the warranties for construction and materials, and the pleasant experience we had working with Ray and The Art of Home Improvement are all 5 star!! If you are looking for a good roofing company, which is friendly, reliable, does great work at a great price, and keeps its commitments, then I would not hesitate to choose The Art of Home Improvement for the job. Thank you.

I was very impressed on how dedicated this team was to complete my roofing project. They worked thru drizzle to ensure that they did not leave my house exposed to the elements, even worked in the dark. I love my new roof and have gotten quite a few compliments from my neighbors whom I assume will follow suit with the installation of a metal roof, after listening to me bragg. Thanks guys for all your hard work and professionalism.

I have never replaced a roof on a home before so I had lots of questions and also wanted to make sure to get several quotes for comparision. I received 5 contacts from Thumbtack and called 4. Of the 4 I was able to get 3 roof companies to come see my property and inspect my roof. All seemed well qualified and all 3 roofer's had comparable prices. What made Kevin Creek with Nailed It Roofing stand out was his attention to detail. Mr Creek came to my home and he not only climbed on my roof to inspect, but he also inspected the attic to see the underside of the roof. He informed me of deficiencies with my current roof that lead to it's early demise. He thoroughly explained to me what needed to happen to replace my roof and make it last this time. Furthermore, after spending a good amount of time with me discussing the roof and then inspecting the roof, he completed his quote while on site and provided it to me. The other roofers, essentially looked at my roof, confirmed it needed to be replaced then left within 15-20 minutes explaining that they would email my quote. They did not go into any type of detail about what needed to take place. It was this main reason I contracted with Nailed It Roofing. During the roof installation, Mr Creek was present for much of the time. He talked with me about certain changes that had to happen (changes he previously informed me could be possible). He was on site to supervise and to make sure my questions were answered during the process. He also was very thorough with his follow up after the installation was complete. All in all, we are super happy with our roof and our choice to go with Nailed It Roofing. We feel confident that Nailed It Roofing did an excellent job. PS Nailed It Roofing also offered the longest warranty on his company's workmanship. This too was apart of our decision to use Nailed It

We hired Kevin for drywall and insulation removal, cleaning and replacement where there was a mold problem. He took care of the mold and completely repaired the area. In addition, he did other ceiling repairs/painting plus exterior home pressure washing. We were very pleased with all results and will gladly hire Kevin Penney again for other home repair projects. He is very knowledgeable, and responsive.

Todd , with The Roof Troop, is a great guy to work with. He and his crew were very swift, diligent in there work, and very professional. They did a great job on the roof, which looks really nice. You should see the looks on my neighbors' faces as they drive by seeing the new roof. It actually poured down raining the following day, but no leaks! They installed the HD Architectural roofing shingles, which I highly recommend, for a more rich, robust, and exotic look. Great guy, great crew, and plan to have them do my gutters as well.

I had Elite Roofing replace my roof, repair soffits, facia, and gutters. All the repairs were done well and they had the roof stripped and replaced in one day. The roof looks great and the entire process went smooth from the estimate to the clean up. I will highly recommend Elite Roofing to anyone that needs a new roof or home repairs.

I cannot say enough great things about this company and specifically, David Isbill. Having received a few estimates for a complete roof replace, I reached out to David and StormGuard. They arrived at my house next day and did a full roof assessment. David, advised me of what needed to be fixed, but DID NOT recommend a full replacement. He acknowledged that we are in the process of moving in to our new home, and that we had a great deal of upfront expenses. He advised that we did need to do a replacement in a few years, but given our situation, we could wait. We ended up agreeing on a preventive plan, where he would do a further inspection, repair and recaulk. I was so overly impressed with David and this company, because he did not try to sell me something we didn't need. This is why I will only use David for my roofing, siding, exterior painting and gutter needs. I would highly recommend David and this company to everyone!

Buddy Allan and his team put a new roof on the building that serves as our Monastery, Library and Fellowship Hall in January of 2017. This building is old and has been added onto over the years—not always expertly— creating some irregular conditions. Buddy and his team listened carefully to our concerns about a leak that other service folks had not be able to fix; after BA complete the work, the leak was gone! The new roof is absolutely beautiful, and they were able to match the color of the shingles on our other buildings. We got three quotes before we selected Buddy Allen’s company. BA’s quote was, we felt, reasonable although not the least expensive. We chose BA because we were impressed with their professionalism, excellent communication and the fact that they seemed to really know what they were doing. The quality of the final product and the cleanup afterwards confirmed we made a great decision. I highly recommend Buddy Allen Roofing & Construction without reservation.

We hired Ricky after our hail storm in April, everything went smooth, and they were very nice to wait on our insurance check after it was lost. Also so glad we changed our shingles to Architectural, definitely worth the extra price.

Jason and his crew did a great job with a complete install of our asphalt shingle roof. We were only out of our house one day before the job was complete and life was back to normal. Three words describe their work; professional, courteous, and efficient. Not to mention the job cost less than we thought. Thanks Again All American Roofing & Construction

After searching on various websites to find the best Roofing company to replace my roof, I had found the one. Mitch H., the owner to Roofman, was quick to response for any questions, and reasonable on his pricing quote. Mitch explained in detail the difference between his pricing, material, quality and experience compared to other companies. On the day of installation, Mitch and his crew arrived on time, covered all the bushes and places where they were planning to throw the old shingles out. Mitch supervised the crew to make sure everything was done properly. Afterwards, all the debris was hauled away, nails were cleaned all around the house, and Mitch did a final walk down of the house to inspect for any defects. He was the last to leave to ensure all nails were picked up on the driveway. I was really impressed with the professionalism that Roofman team has provided and would definitely recommend this roofing company for anyone who needs roofing services.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
