Carlos was great! He came out quickly and got right down to business. He was able to determine how to best fix my problem. He put in a new outlet in my garage for my electric car, a new breaker and an additional outlet for my garage refrigerator too. He did such nice work I asked him to come back and install a new light I purchased for my foyer. He is very reasonable and does quality work, he's pleasant, professional and quick.

Two very nice women came into my home and went straight to work. When they were through, I noticed that they had even washed my cabinets, cleaned the grime off my doors, and without my asking, cleaned the floor under both couches. My place feels so much better. Thank you!! I will definitely get in touch for something more regular so my place doesn’t get to that level of filth again.

Excellent paint job at a fair price. The painters are experienced and work hard. Some places required 40 ft ladders and ladders on the steep roof. Paid particular attention to the many windows and doors. Left the place clean. Will use them for indoor painting projects without hesitation.

We had a pretty big job, and Hal and his team handled it well. Caulked all of our windows and doors, replaced rotten wood, painted gutters and stucco and our steeple and cross, almost 100 feet high. Hal worked with us to find all the right products for the job; he is a pleasure to work with. Finished ahead of schedule, left the work space clean, and his price was competitive.

I never think much about garage door maintenance but I will now!!! One of two garage doors had a bolt pull away from the wall & create a dangerous situation. In order to properly secure it, adding a metal brace was key. Then Spencer advised me to do likewise preventively for the other door (because it was poorly installed like the other one) which I did have done. He had all the right tools & clearly knows exactly how to do a repair efficiently and I emphasize properly!!! Spencer is highly skilled, knows what he’s doing & arrives with the equipment to get it done.

Fernando and his crew worked with us to prepare our house for sale. They did a great job preparing and painting garage walls and floor, master bath and closet, stripping and staining the banister and staining our decks. Fernando was available to work around our schedule as needed. We felt his rates were very reasonable and would use his services again.

Kevin Penney has done several jobs for me in the past few months. It started with drying out a basement after a plumbing leak, and I liked him so much that I hired him to repair my roof, re-do thresholds and seals on several doors, install a chandelier, install a screen door, and we have one more shelving/painting project in my office that I'd like to get done before the end of the year. I'm so glad to have this relationship with Kevin now. He's a great communicator, on time, always respectful of me, my home, my pets and my time, and he cares about the nitty-gritty details! I have referred friends to him and will continue to do so with great confidence!

I have had our entire home interiors painted at least 4-5 times over the last 20 years by a variety of folks, and this is one of the best interior painting experiences, EVER. Dan Coates, who is the owner of this company, was continuously on-site and personally worked on the project right from the beginning to the very end in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the job. He worked with us to look through the property in extreme detail to even recommend areas that wouldn't need painting e.g. the ceilings, since that would be an unnecessary expense. Then he helped us pick the best neutral colors based on Top 50 trends. Interestingly, our painting project was right before the holidays in 2017 - Dan and his team worked tirelessly up until the last day before he was to leave town and made sure that the job was completed, and the house was in perfect shape before the holidays. During the job, there were several things that Dan went ahead to repair on his own without even my asking (or knowing). eg. Our garage door had cracks in the caulking which was letting in rain and other elements - I didn't even know this until he showed me that he had thoroughly caulked everything back before painting the garage door. This company has great work ethics and interestingly were also the most competitive on pricing - a rare combination. I can personally vouch for their quality of work, customer service, work ethics and commitment. A+ in all categories. I have given him permission to share any pictures from our interior painting project with his future customers and use me as a reference.

It was definitely a pleasure working with Diamond Painting. Their southern hospitality was refreshing. They were very responsive, respectful and genuinely wanted to provide the quality service that would leave their customer happy everytime they see their completed work. The garage floor had grease and grim on it even after I had it pressure cleaned twice. Joshua came and did an acid wash treatment that cleaned it off and prepared it for the epoxy paint finish. He did a fantastic job! My kids can now go in there without the hassle of me worrying about dirt and grim being tracked into the house. Joshua also painted the garage door, the front door and the metal roofs over the front porch. He did an fantastic job and I'm so grateful for his patience with me on picking the right color for the roof. It feels great coming home now! I highly recommend Diamond Painting and would hire them again. Their price was also competitive and affordable!

My experience with this company was nothing short of great. All of my questions and concerns were answered prior to scheduling. The quote that was given for the garage door opener was the lowest I had found. He arrived early, which was great because I was on limited time. The replacement of the garage door opener and springs was done quickly. I would definitely recommend this company.

2hires owner Kieth is very polite, responsive and understanding. His goal is to make sure the job is done right and to the customers satisfaction. I did have some installation issue with getting my single door to a double door installed. The Workman ship was rushed and the initial install was done poorly. With that said Keith assured me he will make it right. This caused a significant delay in completion. Keith sent a new set of installers to correct the installation, as well as the staining. This process was a pleasure the installers took their time and resolved the issues. I also hand the staining done by Greg’s Pro Painting who was sent by Keith. Keith and his crew did a great job with staining the mahogany doors. To the point where I hired him to repaint my garage door. At the end of it all the doors are installed and I am satisfied.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?

The national average for garage door repair cost is between $80 and $110. Some of the factors that affect your garage door repair cost are the type of springs (most often torsion or extension), the size and weight of the door, and the door material. Many garage door pros will charge a service fee to visit your house and determine the problem. Often, the service fee includes a set amount of labor. One example of this is an $80 service fee that includes the first hour of work plus testing and inspecting your garage door and garage door opener, while another pro may charge $150 for the same standard service call.

Broken or jammed springs are a common problem. In one example, the starting price for spring repair was $99, while another pro’s cost started at $185. The $185 starting price included $40 for transportation costs, $60 for parts, and $85 per hour of labor. Professionals may charge extra for late-night garage door repair emergencies.

How much is it to replace a garage door panel?

Replacing a garage door panel can add significantly to the cost of a garage door repair. Panels run horizontally on sectional roll-up garage doors. They may be made of wood, vinyl, aluminum, fiberglass or steel. Garage door panels can become damaged from hail and other extreme weather, dents and dings, car accidents, and age. When deciding if you want to replace a garage door panel, it’s helpful to compare the potential repair cost to the cost of a new garage door. Panel replacement requires a pro with the proper tools as well as the new parts. With parts and labor you could be paying more than $500 for one new panel. In comparison, a new garage door may cost $800-$1,200 (on average) with installation. If there is a possibility your garage door was structurally compromised when the panel was damaged, have the pro assess whether it’s better to completely remove and replace the door, rails and framework to ensure your home’s safety. It may also be better to completely replace your door if it is severely rusted or dented; if the paint is peeling and fading; if the door model is outdated or you can’t find replacement panels; or if the panels or rails are structurally compromised.

How much should it cost to replace a garage door cable?

If your garage door is not opening or has become jammed, you may need to replace the garage door cables. Unless you have the proper tools and know-how, this is a job best left to a professional due to the weight of the garage door and the extreme tension of the springs. The cost of repair will vary depending on your location, the length of the cables you need, and the time it takes the pro to do the replacement.

From a big-box store, basic garage door cables can run between $8 and $20, depending on the product. Your pro may charge you a different cost if they provide the cables. Your cables may not need to be replaced if they have simply come off the track, but broken cables will need to be completely removed and replaced. In either instance, the pros will need to secure or take down the door; unwind the springs; reset or replace the rollers, cables, and drums; and then wind the springs once more. For example, a pro could reset cables that have come off the track for $129.99. The average national cost for a garage door repair specialist is $80 - $110 per hour and the typical cost to replace a broken garage door cable is anywhere from $130 to $200.
