Carlos was great to work with. I hired him to handle my lighting on a reno project and he was quick and efficient to install new lighting throughout the house and added can lights in the kitchen. He later came to my rescue when a previous contractor didn’t work out and was quick to pick up the add’l work installing new flooring, a ceiling repair, painting and fixing a tile backsplash in the kitchen. Thanks to him, I was finally able to sell my property and everyone complemented the finishes especially, thanks to Carlos!!

I am very impressed with Gabrini's work and workmanship. He was very punctual and completed the work to my satisfaction (got more than what I had expected) and within the time he had told me. He worked very patiently as I had granite backsplash to be removed prior to tile backsplash installation and he did a good job with minimum damage to my wall. There was minimum to absolutely no wastage of tile, which was really good. I had a tile installer few years back and he had a bag full of waste from tile cutting that was required for those weird corner tiles. He even cleaned up all the mess after the work was completed. All in all - a job well done!!! His price quote was very affordable and does nit charge exuberantly like many others. My recommendation goes out 100% for Gabrini.

Search no more! This crew is AMAZING with Bobby being the project manager. They helped us replace flooring of the entire house ~2400 sq ft over just two weekends. I was “worried” because the crew were so dedicated to the job that I rarely saw them eat, drink, or rest at all lol. We decided to contract them with more work because they could help you with countertop and backsplash as well. Jobs beautifully done again at a great value. I will have them back for sure for future projects and so should you.

We have used Flooring Zone during our total home remodel over the past year. They have installed everything from travertine, porcelain, laminate and hardwood to custom glass tile in our showers and kitchen. During our renovation we had two high profile Contractors managing separate projects which included some of the tile work. Flooring Zone was called in on both projects to take over the tile work due to their level of skill and expertise. Their staff is dedicated, hard-working, professional and reliable. After comparing their pricing with competitor products and services, we found that Flooring Zone was the most fair and transparent. They arrived on time and stay with our projects through successful completion. Miles would even drop by my office to deliver samples for us to consider. Having recently hired so many Contractors, Flooring Zone was a refreshing experience. We are bringing them back in shortly to finish the last rooms of our renovation. When it comes to Miles and the Flooring Zone, we just keep calling them back because I know we will get a great outcome. I highly recommend calling Flooring Zone first or at least include them before making a flooring or tiling decision. You can reach Miles DuChanois, Installation Manager/Sales, Flooring Zone at C:678-768-6090, O:855-344-ZONE.

Paulo did a glass tile backsplash installation for me in my kitchen. He was a very pleasant person to work with. He was very attentive to me as a customer from the first phone call, to follow up calls, through the completion of the job. Paulo has a great work ethic and worked long hours as needed to complete the job by our deadline. He communicated each step that needed my attention and explained as much as I needed to know when I asked questions. His attention to detail is great and he does high quality work. I am a perfectionist and I was very pleased with the job. He also asked me when he finished, if I was happy with the work and if there were any adjustments or repairs that needed to be made. I liked his thoroughness. I would definitely recommend Paulo Santos for tile work to anyone.

This was my first time rolling the dice and making a hire through Thumbtack and Cory was awesome! The guy is truly talented and did several projects outside of just installing the double french door. He also did our flooring, backsplash, framed and installed another door and several other projects, and we'll definitely reach out to him again! We hit a major bump in the road because the door we purchased was built too wide and we had to open a wall. His prices were very fair even when we had to open the wall...which contractors often take advantage of customers in that situation. He was also honest if something was out of his area of expertise which we certainly appreciate and had great cost effective ideas to accomplish other projects. He was very accommodating and polite while working in our home. He spent approx. 2 weeks doing a lot of work and would clean up each day before leaving which was impressive...and very helpful since we have young kids running around the home. I'd highly recommend him for any projects you need done!

Dustin at Courtesy Flooring gave us a very appropriately priced estimate, including installation of wood look plank tiles, baseboards, and shoe mold throughout our entire downstairs (approx 2100 sq ft). He was prompt to communicate any issues as encountered, as we were not always sure what the condition of the slab or subflooring was going to be once the old flooring (laminate) was removed. We had to add on work to have Dustin install the proper moisture barrier in one room, when the laminate was removed to discover just plywood subfloor underneath, but otherwise there was no increase in cost from his initial estimate. It took approximately three weeks to complete all of the work. We love our new floors! We intend to coordinate with Dustin further to install a new kitchen backsplash and also to remove old flooring and install tile in our sunroom as well.

I needed a few tile backsplashes done. Chris and his partner came and looked at the space, were reasonable with their labor quote, purchased all the materials I requested and completed the job quickly. I was satisfied and will use them again soon for other jobs around the house.

Mr. Baynes has been a contractor for me for numerous projects in my home. The scope and nature of the project work included entire interior and exterior painting of a 6800 sq. ft. home, deck restoration and painting, siding replacement, new construction of sunroom, power washing of house exterior and driveways, new appliance installations, wall and ceiling replacement after major water damage, carpet installation, tile refinishing in the bath area, painting of exterior rod iron fence and gates and widow re-sealing and re-glazing. While home improvement projects are inherently stressful for almost any homeowner, Mr. Baynes’s services as a contractor were invaluable, and I have been extremely pleased with the final result. Specifically, I would give Mr. Baynes top marks in the following areas: 1. Quality of work performed. The quality of work done was consistently. Mr. Baynes was knowledgeable, skilled, and competent in his respective trades. He was conscientious about all of the project specifications, and his work product rarely needed improvement or revision. 2. Quality of work. Mr. Baynes was professional, reliable, courteous, and respectful of my property and privacy. He had an old school work ethic (often 10-hour days, some Saturdays), good work habits, strong safety orientation, and emphasized getting the job done right rather than doing it fast. His pride in his work was evident. He tidied up at the end of each workday. I also found him to be trustworthy, and felt comfortable with allowing him access inside my home. 3. Project management and coordination. Mr. Baynes’s prior experience working in construction really paid off. He was knowledgeable about all aspects of my projects, and was able to plan, coordinate and manage the activities, effectively. 4. Integrity and professionalism. Throughout the projects, I was impressed with Mr. Baynes’s commitment to generating a top quality product, rather than maximizing his profit margin. 5. Effective communication. Mr. Baynes kept me closely informed of work schedules, delivery dates, and projected completion dates of different phases of the projects. His communication was always clear, informative, and helpful. 6. Flexibility and effectiveness in dealing with unexpected developments. When unforeseen problems surfaced (e.g., water damage behind a wall; he worked diligently with me to identify solutions that was acceptable to me. 7. Responsiveness to my needs and concerns. Mr. Baynes’s commitment to my satisfaction was evident in his actions. 8. Truth in advertising. In his proposal, Mr. Baynes gave a clear breakdown of costs for each facet of the projects. His contract was just as detailed in describing the work to be done and the itemized costs. When the project was completed, all the work was done as described and agreed upon, and there were no hidden costs, extra expenses or unpleasant surprises. As a homeowner and customer, I felt Ms. Baynes delivered exactly what he had promised, at the agreed upon price.

Tom tiled three bathrooms, one laundry room and replaced my old back splash in my kitchen. He did outstanding work! He had to custom cut every singel tile for the backsplash - 60 square feet of tile. He really improved the appearance of our kitchen. He also remodeled our guest bathroom. He was going to tear out the existing outdated tile shower. However, since the shower was in such good shape, he recommended keeping it and just tile the floor and stoop of the shower. He painted the bathroom with two colors that tiled it all together. In addition, he installed bead board and trimmed it out. Excellent wood worker and painter too. I would highly recommend him!

I hired Mike from Floors ATL to remodel a bathroom. After meeting and talking with him, I knew he was the right contractor and I gave him the job to remodel my entire first floor. He tiled our kitchen, three bathrooms and built a new tiled shower. He also installed hardwood flooring, new carpet and painted. Everything looks great. My wife really loves the hardwood floor. She had a strong interior design and Mike was able to meet her goals. Mike gave us several good ideas on the interior design and we came to trust his opinions. We did have some problems after completion but Mike responded quickly and fixed all the problems. I intend to hire Mike again to renovate my rental properties.

Giovani installed our backsplash. Overall, the quality of work completed looks good and he kept a clean work space. It took him two days to install and he was two hours late on the second day and owner was unaware until I placed a call to follow up.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
