Outstanding gym and high quality personal trainers!!! Not only is Barkes Fitness a Top Notch gym, but Ben and Amanda and their staff are excellent personal trainers. Ben responded to my request within minutes even though it was after 8 pm. He got me in next day for a consultation. During the consultation, he did a great job of explaining the responsibilities of a personal trainer and the responsibilities of myself. After listening to my goals, he laid out a few plans from which I could choose. Ben is honest and very straight forward as to what it takes, in his opinion from 30 years experience, to reach the goals I was looking for. Once we got started, Ben has followed through on all his responsibilities and pushes me to meet mine. The atmosphere of the gym is that of dedication, hard work, individuality, and they definitely create a gym family environment. They have pushed me to stay committed and in only a month, I am beginning to see results. I look forward to continuing my training and enjoy seeing the gym grow. Rich is an excellent trainer! Although I initially trained with him one-on-one for a few sessions at a fitness club, the majority of my training stemmed from participation in his 6 week boot camps. I didn't think he'd be able to work with me because of all the physical limitations I had, but he adjusted the tensity of the training to suit my individual needs. He never once made me feel like it was a chore to work with me - which was very important and impressive to a person like me who think she's "untrainable" - nor did he make me feel like I was less of a participant because I couldn't keep up with the rest of the class. He was extremely patient, very sincere, hardworking and always exhibited a positive and encouraging demeanor - all of the characteristics you'd look for and want in a true and serious personal trainer. Working with Rich has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. He started off as my personal trainer back in 2011 and I've stuck with him ever since! When he contacted me to see if I'd be interested in his BCC class, I HAD to join. Rich not only guides and coaches you to your goals, but he also CARES! not many trainers do.. He knows when to push you, gives advice on things to do at home like certain stretches if you're sore, he knows nutrition, and he knows how to have FUN during class. When I initially began my search for a personal trainer I wasn't really sure what I wanted. I just knew I needed to make a change. Jack reached out to me after I created a post on Thumbtack looking for trainers in my area. He was very up front about his background and expertise, which is something I value in a professional trainer. We had an initial appointment to discuss my options and he was willing to work with my schedule as well as offer affordable payments. Jack has given me numerous tools to be successful on this weight loss journey. We started with a guide for better eating, which has been a fantastic improvement in my life, because I knew I needed to eat healthier, but I wasn't sure what foods would ultimately be best for me. Currently, we train together two days a week, and Jack provides me with workouts and training guidelines to be successful outside of our sessions. I am usually able to get to the gym 3-4 times during the days we don't train, which has been a fantastic change in my lifestyle. I used to be afraid to go to the gym by myself, because I had no clue what I was doing. I feel like I have a great foundation now, which has ultimately provided me with the internal motivation to lead a healthier lifestyle. Overall, the beginning of this journey has been a fantastic experience. I'm able to do more physically than I ever have before, and I'm motivated to put in the time and effort to be able to do so. The sessions are difficult, but I always feel encouraged by Jack to push myself harder and I never feel uncomfortable doing it. With Jack's help, I've managed to lose about 20 lbs in almost two months, which is something I didn't even think was possible. I could barely do a push up when we started, and I'm lifting weights and running miles at a time now. I'm looking forward to continue working with Jack to see the progress I'll make in a few more months.

There's a unique beauty when it comes to the Workhorse Gym. When you walk into most gyms, the environment seems off, or even stale. All the stations can seem overwhelming and quite frankly to complicated to use at times. However at Workhorse, the environment and atmosphere is anything but stale. You can feel the intensity leangering around, but yet not intermediating in any sense. Everyone there is warm and supportive, and the number one rule is to respect everyone that walks through those doors. Ron has somthing incredible here, something that most gyms have lost. He himself is a remarkable trainer. He has never turned me down when I ask for help, and he's always offered me the knowledge that he's acquired over time. I have noticed tremendous results ever since I've started lifting at Workhorse. My body feels the best it has in my 20 years of life, and my strength has practically exploded. People from all walks of life would benefit from coming to this gym. Are you a powerlifter? He has all the weights you need. Body builder? Don't sweat it, all the equipment is there. Even if you're just someone who wants to feel better about themselves, Ron will see to it that you're given all the tools and knowledge needed to obtain your goals, just as long as you're willing to work for it!

This is a great facility with great programs but more importantly the owners are people who truly care about you and your health and well being. They are extremely knowledgeable and will help and encourage you throughout your journey. There is no such thing as a magic pill to take to instantly become fit. You have to work out more than once and eat a balanced diet for more than a day if you want to get into shape. At the Workhorse Gym you will get sound (and certified) nutritional advice, workout advice, instruction on how to properly and safely use resistance training to really up your fat burning game, and the best darn cheerleaders ever to help motivate you when you just aren't feeling it. This is a no judgement zone and I feel perfectly comfortable pouring my lumpy, bumpy gut into spandex leggings and getting my sweat on during a cardio kickboxing class or strength training. My lumpy is going away, I'm seeing booty gains, and I can always count on Ron to see when I am about to throw in the towel and give me that last little push and voice of encouragement to make it those last 30 seconds or lift that one last heavy rep.

I met Kevin McAndrews when I was invited to attend a boot camp style work out that he was leading. I was impressed with not only how challenging the program was but also how much fun he made it. The boot camp was held outdoors and Kevin was able to use the park resources and a few pieces of equipment that he brought to create several stations to rotate the group through and challenge each member based on their current fitness level an demonstrate modifications as needed. I signed up for several personal sessions when Kevin opened “Train Your Way Fit”. Kevin always challenged me and encouraged me to find opportunities to work out and incorporate fitness into my office and home environments. I highly recommend Kevin as a personal trainer. I have a pacemaker due to a congenital defect. I have been cleared by my cardiologist to work out / run to the point of only being able to speak short phrases. I am very out of shape, I am only about 30 pounds over weight but I do not have much endurance. That is one of the most important things to me is building endurance.
