Mark's pictures are wonderful! I love them! The day of the wedding he was incredible. He seemed to be everywhere, so much so that some guests thought there was more than just one photographer. He captured all the meaningful moments pre/during/and post ceremony, all the people at the wedding, everything. He has a good sense of humor and put me and my guests at ease. The end quality of the pictures was also great! I have some truly wonderful portraits of my guests and myself and my husband. I couldn't be happier and I can't recommend him highly enough! Go Mark!

I cannot say enough of good things about Ione. We had her at couple of events, including wedding and baby shower. She is not only talented DJ, face painter and entertainer but also a great person to work with. She came up with list of songs for our wedding day and later helped us with karaoke to entertain guests who stayed late with us. At baby shower she helped us with decorations, balloons and face painting, that made shower more fun. Ione is very reliable, honest and easy to communicate. We are hope she would be available for our future parties.

Gladys was great to work with. She was fun, caring and responsive. She made our wedding day easy and special. She is obviously passionate about what she does and you can tell she cares. Frank was WONDERFUL to work with - he was able to fill all of our music requests without any issue or hesitation. He helped make our wedding truly a fantastic day, many of our guests raved about him after the wedding and said that they loved his style - he took requests but also knew how to read the room and keep the energy right where we wanted it. We could not have asked for a better experience.

Tiffany was absolutely fantastic! She arrived on time, completed 7 girls makeup, and did a phenomenal job! I don’t usually wear a lot of makeup, I told her “natural” but wedding appropriate and she nailed it! Thank you so much Tiffany.

Robert is extremely professional, knowledgable, and entertaining throughout our ceremony and reception. He gave great guidance and suggestions leading up the to wedding and was flexible as changes were made all the way up to the big day! I've been to many weddings where the DJ was just ok, but he made the reception/dancing absolutely a unforgettable experience. Our friends and family said it was fun and a good mix of music for everyone to dance to! We will definitely be recommending him to our friends and family! You should definitely consider hiring him for your wedding or other events!

Jon was attentive, eager to please, and a professional of the truest sense of the word. My wife and I were very grateful for him providing the soundtrack to our wedding. We asked him to balance three extremely different musical tastes (trance, spanish, and top 40 dance) and he pulled it off seamlessly. We highly recommend Jon for any special events, but especially weddings.

We hired Jeremiah Sjoberg for videography services for our wedding. Jeremiah and his assistant videographer arrived and were pleasant and personable from the start. They worked around us throughout the day and were able to capture all the details that we wouldn't have gotten to see. They worked to get the best perspective of all aspects of the day. The footage is amazing and we are so happy to have such great video from our special day!

My fiance (now wife) and I hired Michael to do our elopement in Salem and Michael was kind, professional, and soft spoken. He was also beyond helpful when we hit a snag in our paperwork as we are from out of state.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
