I'm not one to write reviews, but because I'm passionate about working out, fitness and nutrition, I feel I should let others out there know what a great place Activate is for all of the above. I have been a member since it's inception and truly believe that it is different than any other facility or big box gym I've ever been a member of. At Activate you are not just another number or member but a person with individual needs. You are heard and encouraged to succeed whether it be from the staff (who are phenomenal by the way) or from other members who are also there to succeed. As a person who has struggled with my weight from my teens into adulthood, it has always been super-depressing to go from fitness center to fitness center and not achieve success. Even if I did achieve success, it was barely measurable, not to mention that I never learned anything about what is necessary to get results - appropriate nutrition and the kind of workouts needed for targeting fat loss. Like so many others, I was on the treadmill and elliptical wasting my time. Activate is the only place I have ever found true success with real, lasting weight loss and nutrition. The demands of a busy and physically challenging schedule had started taking a toll on his body. That's when, in the fall of 2013, we took the help of Jose. Our son has shown a complete transformation in his physical performance since then -- his game has become faster and stronger and he has remained remarkably injury free. He identified players at risk for injury and gave them prehab exercises, and he improved running and cutting form. Recommend for individual and small groups as it is less effective in a full team format to get each person the attention needed. Stacey organized a bootcamp at a local public park during the summer. Although it was early (6am!) I felt like I got the best workouts with her and they were totally worth waking up. The price was super affordable too! I loved how it was outside, and I felt like I was always working new body parts which was a great change from my normal gym routine. Over the winter I took part in a "weight-loss" challenge at Let's Go Fitness. It included one bootcamp class per week. I loved the flexibility of being able to go either on Saturday morning or Thursday night (especially since I travel on several weekends). The workouts were hard, and I always felt sore the next several days. Love that feeling!

Soup is an incredible trainer. I am NOT a morning person, but he made me excited to get out of bed at 5:30 AM and go train with him. Soup is easily the most motivating person I've ever worked with. He catered my workouts to my specific needs and goals, and pushed me to go harder everyday. He is also very creative and keeps the workouts different every time so it doesn't get boring. For example, I told him one day that I randomly had boxing wraps in my car, and then the next time we trained we boxed! I really appreciate that he likes to switch it up in the gym and keep it fun -- no two workouts will be the same. Even on days that we weren't training together, he would still check in with me and make sure that I was cardio and eating properly. He keeps it real and holds you accountable by checking in every single day. Working with Soup was truly a pleasure and I cannot wait to start working with him again. Before going to Soupar as a personal trainer I had tried gyms, workout videos, and morning boot camps. All of them ended up being incredibly boring, and when it's boring it's not effective. Soupar know how to keep the workouts interesting and effective. He took the time to talk to me and figure out my goals, then crafted a carefully planned routine. And the plan is not rigid, but is tailored to address any issues that may occur during the time between visits. I credit him with helping get my weight down, my cholesterol in control, and helping get off the medication that the doctor put me on. I recently joined Fit Camp DC as a runner who wanted to add strength training to my routine. I saw the group working out in Logan Circle and decided to give it a try. Emmanuel is a great trainer who is clearly passionate about what he does. The classes are very challenging and in the HIIT style, so it's 30 minutes of intensity; it's a great butt-kicker but only to your own limits. The short workouts, location, and class times are extremely convenient which makes it easy to fit into a busy schedule. People of all fitness levels are in the class which means it's not intimidating and you are pushed to your own level of intensity. During the class Emmanuel is really motivating; there is a lot of positive reinforcement and he will make sure you are performing the moves correctly with proper form. Another thing that I like about Fit Camp which I've disliked about other groups I've tried, and which has kept me from signing up for other classes, is that we don't partner up during the workouts. I have an aversion to touching sweaty people I don't know, and I appreciate that we don't do that! Most of the reviews here are about results; indeed I am feeling great and can tell my muscles are already getting the attention they needed (I'll post again in a few weeks with more concrete results), but I think exercise and a fit lifestyle is really about the journey as well, and so far this has been a positive one.

It is so hard to keep me motivated to go to the gym on a weekly basis but having Danny on my calendar helps me to stay focus during the week as I get ready to attend our small group training sessions. Danny is epitome of professionalism. He is is very knowledge about fitness, nutrition and proper technique and is very punctual. I can still remember my first group training session with Danny, and it was around Thanksgiving and boy, my body was so sore for about 3 days after out session that I refused to indulge in the festivities because it hurt to breath or get up to make a plate but I didn’t want to gain 1 ounce of fat from eating poorly. Danny is awesome, I wish I could attend more than 1 or 2 classes per week him. His classes are like a boot camp and the results are visible quickly even from attending as little as once a week for about 7 weeks. Just follow his instructions and watch your caloric intake. I have had the opportunity to attend Daniel's Cardio/Strength classes (Tue/Thur) for about 1 year at the Perry Hall YMCA. He incorporates agility ladder challenges, training with rope, TRX, kettlebells, weighted sports balls as well as planks, push-ups, crunches, wall sits and we would work in the weight room that involves machines, but can be carried out with dumbbells, barbells or body weight exercises. His classes are great and always challenging. They inspire you to push yourself forward towards reaching your personal fitness goal.

My two little ones and I are taking a Mommy and Me Boot camp class with Valerie at the Community Center in Laurel. From day one, she welcomed us all (even a wailing baby!) and showed me ways to incorporate both my two year old and five month old into my workout so that it was actually doable and fun. Each workout has been different and tailored to the needs of the group. (She checks in with us frequently and makes modifications if a task is too easy, too hard, or a child in the group needs mommy!).
