We hired Matt to provide piano lessons to our teenage son, who has a classical music background. However, our son wanted to add pop music to his experience. Matt has proved to be the right person for the job! Our son has already had 6 lessons with Matt and is eager to continue. Matt has the talent, skill and patience to give his students the best experience.

My mother and I are very happy with our lessons! Very prompt, well educated and humorous. Makes the lessons fun while still implementing the discipline needed to succeed. He even brought me the sheet music for a song that I want to learn in the future. We are looking forward to continued lessons with C.J.!

I came to Andrew as an intermediate-to-advanced level pianist looking to learn jazz piano. Andrew does a great job pacing his lessons to push new ideas and techniques without being overwhelming. He will also relate the techniques he teaches to how he plays in real-life, which is extremely helpful. Andrew is very easy to get along with and is also very responsive between lessons. I'd recommend him for any skill level

I had been playing guitar for a couple of years before I started taking lessons with John. I was a little apprehensive studying guitar with him since he's primarily a bassist, but it didn't take long for him to dissuade me of that notion. John is a talented multi-instrumentalist (he also plays keyboards in addition to guitar and bass), who quickly demonstrated to me that he had complete mastery of the guitar and that I was in good hands learning from him. In all the time I spent learning guitar before studying with John, I had learned some theory, a few licks here and there and the basic blues progression. After a few months with John, though, I was playing complete songs and was able to sit in comfortably with other musicians in a band or jam situation. He mixes a good amount of theory in with his lessons, but he makes it fun and relatively simple. John was really good at listening to what I wanted to accomplish as a musician and helping me develop a plan and goals to get there. I should add that I am an adult guitar student, which comes with its own sets of challenges in terms of scheduling and time available for practice. John was very flexible in accommodating my schedule and helping me get the most of the limited time I had to practice. It's not an exaggeration to say that my ability to play guitar and enjoy music increased exponentially while I studied with John. I highly recommend him to anyone, regardless of age, skill, or experience level.

Caren was my piano teacher through junior high and high school. She did an excellent job of listening to my goals and tailored my lessons and pieces assigned to help me achieve those goals. I have had a number of piano teachers but Caren was by far the best. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a good teacher.

The location was a little off putting but Tiffany was very knowledgeable and precise. I took this class in college and I actually learned some new things from her! Her experience as an EMT definitely shows and makes her lesson more relevant. Also, they offer classes several times a week no matter the class size! Will definitely recommend them to others.

My husband had been wanting to take lessons and we tried a few teachers until we chanced on Mike. Mike responded to our initial email immediately and we started our lessons. We are now a few months in, and have a long term relationship. He is punctual as well as flexible, something that makes him invaluable. My husband has progressed at a great pace and he loves the instruction he gets from Mike. We look forward to years of learning with Mike

I have been taking piano lessons with Sharon for about 3 months now and I really enjoy it. As a busy professional who started from scratch, I feel I have learned a lot more than I expected, both in theory and technique. Even though I myself haven't been able to make the time I had planned when I started, I have made progress more than my expectations, thanks to her effective teaching approach. She always makes sure to create an enjoyable and comfortable atmosphere for you to learn by trying. She enjoys answering your questions and always responds thoroughly. She is very knowledgeable and experienced and at the same time pleasant, patient and understanding and makes the learning a fun experience. If you are looking for a teacher to learn piano the right way, she is the one to work with. I would highly recommend her to any body at any age and any level.

I recommend Marc without a bit of hesitation. He is professional. He is well trained ... and it shows. Having seen him teach various students who precede me, I see that he meets anyone on their own level. He has incredible ears. He recognizes the subtle things that have always escaped me.

I'm a return oboe player and really enjoy the lessons offered by Kaycee. She tries to make me understand with patience on how to make right voices by comparing with real world objects, as a steady basis is the most important for any instrument player. She can accurately judge my every try and give me advice which immediately leads my improvement in next try. She has a studio with warmth. Really learnt a lot from her experience.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What can you do with a first aid certificate?

People with a first aid certificate are trained to respond quickly and appropriately in life-threatening situations. Although a first aid certificate alone isn’t enough to secure a job, it can make you more attractive to certain types of potential employers. When you have a first aid certificate, you’ve proved that you know how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and handle emergency situations like choking, heavy bleeding, a heart attack or stroke, or anaphylaxis. Most parents prefer babysitters and lifeguards with first aid certification. Many professionals, especially those who work with children, are required to have first aid training, including teachers, coaches, counselors and therapists, firefighters, and social workers. In addition to adult and pediatric first aid plus CPR and AED courses, you can take first aid training specifically designed for babysitting and child care, for health care settings, and for swimming and water safety situations..
