I hired Thompson & Thompson to clean my son's apartment in Ferndale. He has Venetian blinds on all his windows, and I wanted those cleaned in addition to his stainless steel appliances, bathroom including tile grout, and the oven. The cleaners met my son so that he could let them in before he went to work; since he didn't get home from work 'til late that night, he didn't know how long the job took. My son told me that the apartment looked great. I asked him if he was dissatisfied with anything, but he said everything looked just great. He really appreciated the gift, so I'm considering hiring the company again!

My parents are no longer able to live in the only house they've ever lived in together. My brother worked hard to bring the house up to date. Once that was done we needed someone to come in a to bottom! Sandy was very accommodating and met me in the evening. Two days later her and her crew were working on the house! They did a wonderful job! The windows sparkled, the wood gleamed and the stove/oven was, once again, clean enough to cook on! 😄 Thanks for great job!

Bryan was quick as lighting bolt to schedule the appointment the same day. The technician took around 10 -15 minutes to diagnose the issue with my oven . He replaced one of the part and the oven started working fine. Great work and professionally done. The cost of the repair was $120.

Donna came to deep clean our home before a party (we should have hired her for after, too!) and the house looked great. She is very detailed and got under beds, behind our couch, etc. We also had our oven done and she had it sparkling! I’d have Donna back again without hesitation.

I hired Front Door Housekeeping for a one time cleaning. After my wonderful experience with Darlene, I plan to become a repeat customer! From our initial contact , I found Darlene to be professional, friendly, accommodating and fair in her pricing. The cleaning they did did not disappoint! Everything was done to perfection. I was especially pleased with how shiny my tile floors were. Cleaning the inside of the fridge is an add-on service, which I am so glad I got. It was wonderful coming home to a clean house and opening up the refrigerator and finding it sparking clean and fresh was just the icing on the cake.

Joe is great. He came out on a Saturday night to work on a clogged kitchen drain, which a different plumber had worked on and gave up. Joe worked for about an hour and got it open. I was impressed with his professionalism. He came on time, dressed clean, was polite and very knowledgable. In addition, he cleaned up his work area when he was done. Most repairmen leave a mess, but not Joe. I highly recommend Joe and will definitely use him again.

Margarita did a wonderful job on our 2 bedroom apartment. She was very thorough in each area she cleaned and really got into he details of not just cleaning, but also arranging/organizing. Would definitely recommend her to others and hire her again in the future. I was particularly impressed by her initiative to create a rotating weekly list of tasks (deep clean oven, refrigerator, medicine cabinet, etc.). It shows me that she takes her job seriously and has passion for her business.

You cannot go wrong with this service. Very reliable. I had the move-out deep cleaning a few days earlier. My real-estate agent called me after the service and said what an amazing job the team provided. The new homeowners had no complaints, which made me feel great. I'm glad Always Spring Cleaning Specialists provided such a wonderful quality clean. It was a lot to do and the pricing is very affordable.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

How much does it cost to deep clean a house?

Deep cleaning a house goes beyond the surface level to clear out the dust, grime and gunk that’s collecting on the fan blades, hiding in the blinds, and built up inside the refrigerator drawers. Deep cleaning of a home or apartment costs more than regular house cleaning because it takes more time, effort, and cleaning products. You may choose to have a deep cleaning once or several times a year in addition to your standard cleaning services. You may have a one-time deep cleaning to prepare for company or to clean after a house party. Companies may charge an hourly rate or a price per square foot, or may offer you a flat rate after they have visited your home and estimated work time. The national average house cleaning price is $110-$150, with rates ranging higher for deep-cleaning services. Here are some examples of how a company may calculate their deep-cleaning prices:

    • 10 cents per square foot (compared with 5 cents per square foot for standard house cleaning).
    • $300 for a 3,000-square-foot home.
    • $25 per hour per worker for deep-cleaning services.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
    • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
    • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

    How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.

How much does a move-out cleaning cost?

Moving is hard enough work even before you have to clean the empty home to perfection. Instead of scrubbing your tile grout with a toothbrush, hire a professional cleaning company to provide move-out cleaning services for you. For moving out of an apartment, cleaning prices can range from $110 to $150. When scheduling a move-out cleaning, talk with the pro and confirm all the key points they will clean to ensure you receive your deposit back.

Important areas to have cleaned include the fridge interior, the oven interior, bathroom tile, the shower and tub, all blinds, and sometimes the walls. Some cleaning companies do not quote a flat rate for a move-out cleaning, as the number of hours it may take to clean structurally identical apartments could vary greatly depending on how clean or dirty the inhabitants were. For example, move-out house cleaning prices may range from $150 to $180 for one- or two-bedroom apartments.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
