I called Don 3 weeks before my wedding. I had to change the date of our wedding and my previous photographer could not make it. Don was a life savor! Not only was he able to make our event, he captured all the special moments on film. He did such an amazing job! More than I could have ever hope for! Don also shot my step daughters senior pictures! Those also turned out amazing. Don is an extremely attentive and personable! I would highly recommend Don for any occasion you may need captured. Thank you Don for letting us relive our special day over and over through you photographs! Shannon and Jim Nauslar

Chris completed the quintessential wedding need to capture once in a lifetime photo memories for a wedding being planned by our son and fiancé' overseas and family members locally. Even with a brief notice, he invested himself professionally. He's a skilled photographer who captured posed as well as candid moments of the day. We are so grateful for his services and for making the families feel so at ease!

I was the Pastor at a wedding Dave DJ'd, and he helped us with both the ceremony and reception. He and I didn't have much time to meet before the wedding, but in the short time we did I was able to hand him all the music and go through him the order/plan of service 1 time – and he nailed it. I was really impressed and thankful to work with him as even just a few seconds of unplanned empty silence in ceremony feels awkward. I was also there for the reception, and he delivered an awesome experience and a fun time. I highly recommend DJ Dave.

I originally set up just engagement pictures with valery, becauae i did have a budget for photography. After meeting with her i absolutely just loved her personality, and the shots sge took of us. So creative!. I knew after receiving the edited pictures i had to.figure a way for her to do mu wedding. Her portraits are absolutely amazing!! Actually 1 person said to me you always have at least one picture where your like whoa.. not that great. They said not in this case. Every picture was perfect and beautiful. I def recommend booking everything with her. Even if you think its outsise of your price range. Its def worth going up a little!!.

Marie Baker lived on my floor during college. She is not only an amazing photographer but an amazing person to be around! She did my engagement photos and also traveled a ways to photograph my wedding. I was so happy with the results, which were finished with excellence and in a timely manner. She was not only engaged with me and my husband, but was surely engaged with the whole family. I usually feel awkward with photo shoots, but Marie made me and my husband feel very comfortable. I highly recommend Marie Baker!

Howard and Karen were amazing! My husband was deployed during the planning process of our big day, and both of them were beyond helpful in planning out what we wanted. They came prepared with their portfolios of previous work, as well as business cards in case I'd needed to get in touch with them at any time, for any reason. On top of being extremely kind and understanding of our circumstances, they were right on schedule for our wedding day and took fantastic pictures all night! They were also through editing our photos fairly quickly, and we loved having them at our wedding!

My wife and I planned a wedding within two months and called Eddie about a short notice dj. He found time for our special day. Pricing was fair and the service was above and beyond expectations. We also where very picky with song selections and he had no problem finding the songs we wanted and played songs that suited all of our family. Absolutely professional and I would recommend to any bride and groom that is getting ready for there big day. Thanks Eddie!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

      What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
