Roof started leaking during the storms we had the other week. Roman responded to the quote request within minutes and just a few hours later, came over and made the necessary repairs. He was extremely courteous and professional. Would highly recommend to anyone in need of roofing repairs (or a replacement roof)!

Eduardo Manito arrived on time for all aspects of my reroofing job; he guaranteed his work, had 20 years in the business and was very knowledgeable about the serious leaking I had. He told me that the second course of Timberline shingles had been improperly installed resulting in very wet underlayment, which was rotting in some places. My roof was 38 years old. His crew of 6 men replaced 20 sheets of underlayment with new plywood, installed the 27squares of new roof after removing both courses of old shingles in one day. They replaced all flashing and installed it correctly. They cleaned up the yard and answered all my questions, were always PROFESSIONAL, and gave me a very good price for the job. (They beat all their competitors pricing) I called 5 references of five recent jobs they did and all praised their work. I really had no complaints and I will use them again when I do my siding. Dan removed a large skylight and had to close it in including adding shingles on roof and finishing off the bedroom ceiling to match what was already there. Great job done overall. Cleaned up when done. Will keep in mind for future remodeling.

Carlos and his team were given the job of completely rebuilding my 70' x 12' driveway and 20' x 15' garage floor. The job required demolition and pouring of asphalt and concrete. The job was completed quickly, neatly, and finally my driveway was pitched correctly! I have received many compliments from my neighbors and the town inspector! Thank you Carlos, I would definitely hire your company again !

Efferin Roofing and Asphalt Maintenance was outstanding! Everyone was professional, courteous, punctual and competent. They did excellent work. We needed to have our driveway sealed and it was in very bad shape. The Efferins did an amazing job. The finished product is very professional. I would recommend this company very highly. I actually regret that I only have one driveway that needs work. I have dealt with other companies in the past, and there is no comparison. Do not hesitate to hire this company!

Gilbert and his crew came in like a small army. They started my roof at 7:30 and the entire job was done by 4 pm. This included removal of the old roof and installation of new plywood in a few areas. They cleaned up afterwards and left my yard in even better shape than when they arrived. I also could not find a better price for my new roof. I can't think of anything they could improve upon. Just top notch in every way.

I am so happy with all that was done at my new home. Vincent and his crew replaced my roof in one day. It looks great and there were no signs that they were ever at the house except for the beautiful roof. They also installed pavers on both sides of my small driveway in Homestead Columbus NJ . I will recommend them to all my friends and neighbors. A great job !! was done and they were a great company to work with.

I have a flat roof of a 4 family house in Hoboken that keeps leaking ever since I purchased the house 6 years ago. I first found out about Wisebuild Construction from my neighbor and figured I would give them shot to fix my problem. David was the first person I got a quote from and I never looked back. He was by far the most professional and honest compared to any other guy who came for an estimate. He explained everything to me before the job started, and great communication throughout the process. Never shy about providing the full information of the material he used. David and his team did a GREAT job on a complete replacement of our roof. Have not had any leaks since, and the roof looks great. I would highly recommend Wisebuild Construction as your roofing contractor. My son-in-law also works in construction and I know what a professional crew works and looks like. Extremely satisfied and have recommended to my friends and family. We also got our 25 year warranty for our roof and could not be happier.

It was a pleasure dealing with Alec and AV Contracting. He immediately came out when I first contacted him to replace the roof on my Shed that was almost thirty years old. His price was competitive and well within my budget. He showed me different samples as well as made recommendations for the type of shingles and capping I should replace the roof with and venting for the roof/shed. Most important, the job/roof when completed what excellent - Meticulously installed with impressive installation. It took him one day to complete the job. Another note, that impressed me was that Alec was friendly and approachable. No matter when I called or text him, he was happy to assist me or answer any questions. When I replace the roof in my house, I will not bother contacting any one else- Alec and AV Contracting have my business in the future.

Everything from the first phone call to the completed repair is smooth and easy with DVC. We have a slate roof and it needs annual maintenance as slate roofs do. We have also called about other issues pertaining to the outside of our home. Dave is very knowledgeable and great at explaining what could be causing the problem. And always gives options if needed. Getting to the root of the issue to make sure everything is done correctly. We completely trust DVC. They are our first and only call anytime we have a roofing, siding, and gutter needs. Beautiful works. Awesome people.

These guys are awesome, I've used Innovation on my house and the price was reasonable, they cleaned up really well and their work was amazing. My project consisted of replacing the entire roof because it was damaged and had water leaks. This job took two days to finish. The first day, they took down the layers of roof and installed plywood and tar paper then the rest of the hours they worked on putting the roofing materials. The second day they came early in the morning and completed the final process of installing the shingles (they had great selections to choose from). Innovation was knowledgeable, helpful and professional. Their cleanup was better than any other contractor I’ve worked with and that says a lot!!

Geovani is the roofer that helped me with my situation. I had a leak in an upstairs closet and after inspecting the roof he quickly realized the source of the problem. My roof is about 8 years old, but the original contractor took a shortcut because he was running out of materials and didn't properly overlay the shingles along one edge of a dormer. Geovani was great because he worked with my budget and the work he did was top notch. He really knows what he is doing and is willing to do jobs that big roofing companies aren't willing to take on....5 stars all the way for Geovani.

Todd was very responsive from the time of my first inquiry right though until job completion. I had a new roof and 18 windows installed. His prices were the best around for what I needed All work was performed on-time and faster than expected. Todd is very professional and a pleasure to deal with. Everyone remarked that it was one of the neatest roofing jobs they had ever seen. Not a nail or a shingle in sight. I couldn't believe how spotless my house was inside and out. Would recommend him to anyone who asked. I will be using Todd Miller Roofing and Siding angain. No need for me to shop around having found a company like this. Thank you Todd

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
