Heidi and Greg Wilson had their wedding at Ridgefield Grange. It was from 5:00 to 9:00. It was suppose to go until 10 but bride and groom wanted to get to their honeymoon cottage. Rick Hall would have stayed until even longer if people hadn't been really tired and went home. *(beside the Grange was extremely hot). He showed up and was ready to "party hardy" He even showed up the day before for the rehearsal to get things in place. I would recommend Rick Hall for every DJ experience. He was fantastic. We will definitely call for the next party. Thanks Rick

Steady State Studios were THE BEST videographers any couple could wish for on such an important day of your lives. After working with them for months pre and post wedding, we can safely say they are the kind of people you can trust that GREAT work will be achieved at the end of the day and everything you said, mentioned, will be heard and considered. Long story short, SSS and us were halfway around the world from each other, with a 15 hour time difference and they were accommodative, efficient & responsive from our pre to post wedding conversations. They tried their best to accommodate to our every request, as we were quite demanding! I am Chinese and my husband is Hawaiian, and we were incorporating traditions from both cultures into our wedding! We asked for a drone for our wedding at Youngberg Hill, they’ve not done any wedding shoots with drones before but very quickly found someone to help us/them with it and the results were breath-taking! We also needed them to do a quick turnaround as we were hosting a wedding reception for 250 people in Singapore about two months after our Oregon wedding and it was crucial these 250 people get to watch the highlights and ceremony of the wedding. On the day of the wedding, they were everywhere but nowhere, catching snippets of stuff that went on in and around the wedding party that was so amazing to relive or watch in our wedding video. Jason and Kevin had in their minds how and what would be included in the final product, capturing important details I’m sure other people would have missed. I could go on forever about our experiences with SSS but that would take forever! Finally, I would like to express our sincerest thank you and appreciation to these two amazing men for not only capturing the heart and soul of our wedding but being able to take our ideas and their own artistic licenses and create one of the best videos anyone we have shown the video to have seen! THANK YOU STEADY STATE STUDIOS!

Julie bartended my large wedding of 250 people. She went above and beyond to be of help preparing for the day, suggesting amounts of alcohol to purchase, and keep in contact with me about details and plans for the day. I only heard positive things from my guests about her and only saw her smiling and enjoying herself throughout the whole night. I would recommend Julie for any event large or small in the area that you need a friendly professional bartender for!

Joe was the DJ and Emcee for my daughters wedding. Wedding planning can be stressful, and it is a big occasion. Joe helped us with things we needed direction on and gave us answers to questions we didn't even know we had to ask! This is my first time planning a wedding, and it's nice to find that perfect vendor who autually loves what he does for living. We received many compliments about Joe, and our day of planner said he's the best DJ she's ever worked with. I would highly recommend Joe to DJ for your event. The main thing people will remember about a wedding is 1. Did they have fun? And 2. Was the food good? I can't imagine my daughters special day going off without hitch without someone like Joe.

Tom walked us through the overall process and worked with us on the ceremonial aspect of our wedding. He traveled across Portland in a short amount of time to meet our personal needs. The ceremony was short and sweet as requested and he was audible and clear the entire service. Even after the wedding Tom continued to go the extra mile by helping us obtain our certified copy of our license in a timely manner. Nothing less than an outstanding minister and would recommend to all.

I hired Darlene at Garden Inspirations for my wedding of over 200 people at McMenamins Edgefield with less than two months notice. She met me at the venue and met with my bridesmaids. She was so personable and likeable! After we left my maid of honor said, "I love your florist!" She answered our questions and was very straightforward with what would and wouldn't work with our venue, season, and price range. I chose centerpieces for 25 tables, bridal bouquet, 4 bridesmaids, and trellis decorations. Darlene texted me photos of the flowers when they arrived days before the wedding and kept me up to date on all happenings. When she arrived at the wedding venue with the finished project, I literally teared up more at that point than any other on my wedding day. I was blown away with the flower arrangements. She far exceeded my expectations! Her website does not do her abilities proper justice. I am happy to be a future reference to future brides and clients. Darlene absolutely ROCKS at what she does, and she is very reasonably priced. The quality I received for the price I paid was amazing. We had several employees that were not even part of our waitstaff approach us to see if they could take any leftover centerpieces, they said they were, "off the hook". I couldn't agree more. Darlene - Thank you for making my wedding day beautiful and being so wonderful to work with.

Tami was AMAZING! From the first time I reached out to her to the day of our wedding Tami was so incredibly helpful and commutative. Not only is she truly gifted, but she is just a genuine person! We had so much fun meeting her at our cake tasting that my fiancé was really looking forward to seeing her again on our wedding day, but Tami was such a pro she was in and out with her delivery and he just missed her! We think you're awesome Tami! Thanks for everything :)

I found myself in a dilemma when the video editor I hired told me it would take 2-3 weeks for my final product. Tim responded to my inquiry quickly, and set off to work. He listened to what I wanted, and created magic, which was a miracle with the not so stellar wedding video I had. Duclos Media did a wonderful job, and I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again.

I am thrilled to have Stefani as our wedding photographer; she handled a the chaos of coordinating pictures with 60+ people, rainy weather, and low lighting. She answered all of my questions, listened to my concerns, was reassuring, and did it all with a smile. It was a wonderful experience!

Couldn’t be happier with Rob`s work for our pregnancy shoots! I love my maternity photos – it was such a wonderful thing to do just before giving birth! Rob was absolutely incredible to work with. He is experienced, very creative and his warm personality brings out the best in his subjects, especially if you are unsure of how to "act" in front of the camera. He makes you feel completely relaxed and at ease, and it truly makes a difference in your photos. I have to say Rob actually makes taking photos fun! I'd consider myself not photogenic until I started working with Rob - he really works his magic and can give just the right direction to make all the difference. I absolutely love my maternity photos and can’t believe how fantastic Rob made me look just a week before giving birth! Him and his assistant were patient but professional, giving us tips throughout the session to make sure the pictures came out great. At every moment they were kneeling, bending, standing on chairs just to get the shot they wanted. Rob is very dedicated to get the best shots, it is clear though that he truly loves what he does. Robs photos are stunning, natural and proudly hanging throughout our home. We will treasure our photos for years to come and will likely be back for future family shoots. Rob is also great at portraits and wedding photography. Check out his blog for loads more cool pics. He has an incredible eye for the "right" shot, being a top notch photographer and we are so happy we hired him! I would recommend him for any special occasion you want to remember forever.

Will was the DJ for our wedding this past August, but really Will was the glue that held it all together which is exactly what myself as a crazy stressed bride needed. Will and I never met face to face until the day of our event(made things way easy for my busy schedule) and he made the entire process so easy and stress free. He far exceeded our expectations beyond what I could ever put into words. He made our wedding day everything I hoped it would be. I would recommend his services to anyone and we will only use Will for our DJ needs in the future!

DJ Harris went above and beyond to make my wedding wonderful. Going out of his way to make sure that we had what we needed for the ceremony, special music, and great reception jams. It was a large wedding of 250 people and he navigated it with no problems. Communicates and works very professionally and really knows his stuff. Would recommend him to anyone for an event large or small in the area!

Pastor Don was a joy to work with from the start! On day one, it felt like he already knew me and my husband. We clicked immediately, and he understood exactly what we were looking for in our ceremony. We didn't have a church wedding ceremony, and opted instead for a blend of Christian and Muslim traditions. Pastor Don took the time to listen and get to know us, and helped us create a ceremony that was truly personal and reflective of our long love for each other. He put together a draft of what he was going to say very quickly, giving us a number of options for vows and readings that he could incorporate. We could tell they were all carefully selected, and we had a tough time picking one because we loved them all. We added our own touch to the vows and reading and Pastor Don immediately came ready when it was time to practice at the rehearsal and the day of the wedding. Pastor Don was responsive, flexible and extremely easy to work with. On our wedding day, he arrived early, prepared and ready to go. He was a calming presence for me on an otherwise crazy day. There will be a million things to worry about on your wedding day, and you'll be grateful to know that with Pastor Don, you have one less thing to stress over. He's a professional, and is great at what he does. Brianna & Moulaye

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

  • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
  • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
  • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
  • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
  • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
  • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
  • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
  • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
