Excellent company with great work ethics. Anthony carefully reviewed in detail, all the landscape work to be done in our backyard, the specific equipment to be used, including the soil removal and "layering" process to assure long term results. Our project was over 3,000 square feet. If we could, we would definitely recommend this company with a 6-star rating.

I generally do not take the time to review a company unless my experience is exceptionally poor or unless it was outstanding, Mike falls into the latter. He checks all of the boxes with respect to quality, etc. Where he most distinguished himself amongst the other options is his professionalism. Mike updated me with photos of the property throughout the entire process. He was astute (and not rushed) enough to find, collect, and inform me of a small piece of my deck trim that dislodged itself, rather than ignoring it and taking it away with the rest of the leaves. Not to mention he was able to get started right away and was extremely easy to communicate with. If you’re on the fence about utilizing lawncare services from Mike definitely don’t hesitate was worth every cent. Photos below are updates he sent of his work in my backyard.

Thank you to Thumbtack for helping me find this amazing company. His prices are very reasonable, he is very reliable, very easy communication and notification after he services the property. He even goes above and beyond, I have furniture in my backyard and he always moves to make sure that he cuts under it. Highly Recommend!

I hired PEF to do some hardscaping in the front and never doubted they did everything possible to make me happy. I can be picky from time to time and they did a great job stopping to make sure my vision came to life. Would I hire again... already did to do some more hardscaping in my backyard. I will refer to friends and family!

Trevor had the best value of all the landscapers we contacted. We had a tough backyard job that Trevor handled nicely. We are installing a new fence and wanted to extend it to the limits of our property line. However, there was a ton of brush, dead stumps, vegetation, stones, etc., making it impossible for installation. Trevor was able to thoroughly clear out the back yard area despite multiple obstacles. It now looks really good and ready for fence installation. We appreciated that he could accommodate our requests. He was patient and professional. We'll definitely be using his services again for future projects. Thanks to his hard work, we'll be able to expand our fenced property by nearly 1000 sq ft.

Five years ago, we hired Moore Landscaping to lay a patio in our backyard. It turned out beautifully, made with brick pavers in a herringbone pattern. It still looks like new. The workmanship was precise and neat. The job was accomplished on time and on budget. We have since used them for smaller scale gardening projects. We would highly recommend Moore Landscaping.

I needed some landscaping work. I had a leaky backyard pond that needed to be removed and the hole needed to be backfilled. After that, topsoil and grass seed were needed to return the area to an acceptable state. Mr. Moore and his team completed the job in less than a day and I am satisfied with the results. I would highly recommend Garry More to anyone who needs this type of work. His conduct was professional and he was completely responsive to my requests in a timely manner. I will contact him again if I ever need yard work of any kind.

I am not one to write a review unless I feel it is well deserved but Productive Construction Services LLC has exceeded my expectations! Tony was able to salvage my backyard project that was ruined from a previous contractor. Tony was upfront and honest with me throughout the whole phase of the project from offering recommendations on how to give me a finished product but and looking to ways to be cost efficient. I would highly recommend using PCS on any and all future projects from home renovations to landscaping needs. It's a relief knowing I can count on and trust Tony and PCS to get the job done right the first time!

I had a big tree in the front trimmed, an overgrown area cleaned out, and several shrubs removed in my backyard. Cambria services did a fantastic job!! I hardly ever leave reviews but I was so impressed with the services I received today that I just had recommend them. From the initial visit to the end of the job, they were easy to work with and I was given top notch customer service. They are also very reasonable! I was given much higher quotes by 2 other landscapers. I will definitely be using Charles and Cambria services for all future landscaping.

I bought a house that does not have direct access to the backyard from the garage, so that you have to approach it through the back fencing. The house is a townhouse so you have to go to the end of the row and get to the yard. The path was very overgrown making it difficult. Hector not only cut the grass, he made a path to get to it! I will definitely be a regular customer and highly recommend him.

We initially had Tom out to give us an estimate on extending our fence so that we could fit our pool in our backyard and still meet the township requirements. By the time we got done talking, we also hired him to run the electric for our pool AND finish our huge basement. In two weeks, YES 2 weeks, they finished the fence, ran the electric, hauled away stuff from the basement that we didn’t want, AND not only finished our basement, but literally turned it into a basement that my entire family never wants to leave. Tom and his team were professional, responsive, and truly cared about every detail that they put into their work. They worked every single day (including weekends) to make sure that they not only meet their timeline, but exceeded our expectations. I have never had such a positive experience with a contractor and our family is completely IN LOVE with our gorgeous basement! Thank you Tom & team for making our basement dream come true at an extremely competitive price that we could afford. I’m almost certain we’ll be seeing you soon for whatever we decide our next project will be!

Cassello provided timely, very high quality work at a very good cost. Not only did they do a great job removing a very tall tree, numerous stumps, and alot of yard debris from my property, they did an excellent job cleaning up the grounds afterwards. Thanks to them my backyard looks much better and is much safer for my son to play in. Thank you!!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

    • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
    • Read online reviews of client experiences.
    • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
    • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
    • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

    • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
      • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
      • One time only: $45 per service.
        • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
    • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
    • Lot size:
      • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
      • Half-acre lot: $50.
      • One-acre lot: $100.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
