How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

I am a very anxious cook and do not enjoy the idea of cooking or preparing anything. I know how to cook in theory, but do not enjoy :( I did not know if I wanted to take cooking classes with others and decided that it would be worth it to have a one-on-one session. Donna was amazing. I came into her beautiful kitchen, she had everything organized, dish for dish with all ingredients prepared. She asked me before I came which dishes I would be interested in making, so our emailing correspondence was clear and created room for creative or simple dishes, allergy aware and so forth. I explained that I am a teacher and I work in the evenings sometimes, so timing is important and makes it difficult for me to cook at times. In four hours we went over knife skills, how to cook 5 dishes, ingredients, questions about storage, best products and more. We cooked side by side, and sometimes I was responsible for more cutting and always saw the steps of every dish. We made granola, fritatta, lentils dish, curry chicken and shrimp and broccoli. Five dishes and everything was perfectly portioned for me to eat there and take home more for myself. You can tell Donna is a professional, she teaches kindly and answers questions and creates questions. Her formal education has given her the patience and awareness to meet people where they are at. I believe that she would be perfect for anyone of any skill level! It is not like learning from a friend or family, which can be great, but this feels way more supportive! I would recommend anyone to go. It is worth the time and money, because in the end it saves you time and money.

I scheduled the cooking lesson as a surprise for me and my girlfriends anniversary. It was a hit! We made vegetarian meals that were inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. Everything came out very tasty. I made a few mistakes which required some meal modification on the fly and Donna didn't miss a beet (pun intended). Helpful tips and tricks were continuously mixed into the class including how to buy the best produce for the dishes we made to how to properly cut said produce. I had the option to customize the "menu" before we got started but everything that was included originally was great. The environment was friendly, stress free, and instructive. We will be incorporating the skills we were taught into all our future meals. We also came away with a laundry list of kitchen implements and cook books to buy. So now I don't have to spend time thinking about what to get my girlfriend for Christmas, which is nice.
