Naveed G. says, "Revival builders are by far the best remodeling company I have worked with. They never disappoint and consistently provide high quality work. The team is punctual, hard working, detail oriented, and professional. Qualities which are hard to find, nowadays, in a construction company but Revival Builders delivers. Communication was excellent throughout the whole process, from demo to material selection to install up to the finishing days. Bibin truly cares about his work and it showed. He and his team went above and beyond what I expected, and made sure everything was done properly. In addition, he made excellent suggestions when it came down to choosing the material. He also gave me good advice on the remodel from the layout to the finishing touches. I felt very comfortable knowing that the crew would do a good job and that I wouldn’t have to worry about the final product. They were very skilled and careful with their work and it was evident. They made sure everything was done correctly and accurately. I definitely would use them in the future and highly recommend them to others."See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a tiler during the COVID-19 pandemic?

To set up an appointment or consultation with a tiler during the COVID-19 pandemic, start by conducting an online search for tilers in your area. Ask if the tiler can conduct a consultation through a video call instead of a traditional site visit to limit exposure. It’s also wise to confer about the current state of the pandemic and ensure that it’s safe to complete the project now. If not, discuss postponing for another time.

How can I find out if a tiler is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

To identify essential service providers during the pandemic, visit your city or state’s government website to find a list of recommendations.

A list of national recommendations can be found at CISA’s Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 webpage. This service lists 16 different types of essential infrastructure sectors that are approved to continue operation during the pandemic. But note not all jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Can I use digital payments to pay for tile installation, replacement or repairs?

Digital payment platforms are popular in a wide range of service industries, and many tile installment, replacement and repair professionals now accept them. Common platforms include PayPal, Zelle, Google Pay, Venmo, Square Cash and more.

Start with an online search for tile companies near you. Ask them if they accept digital payments and which types you can use. Then, put a strategy together to follow social distancing guidelines.

Does a tiler need to enter my home?

If the tiling job is located in your house, the tiler will need access to your home. The exception to this would be if the job was taking place in an outdoor area like a backyard.

If a tiler does need to enter your home, take strong precautions. Sanitize all surfaces, avoid being in the same room and conduct payment using digital platforms. Discuss a safety strategy with tilers in your area beforehand.

Are there ways to be safe if I hire a tiler when social distancing?

If you decide to hire a tiler in your area, stay at least 6 feet away from worker(s), don’t shake hands, sanitize all involved surfaces and use digital payment platforms instead of cash or a check. During the consultation, put a plan together to help ensure everyone's safety.

Do tilers offer remote or virtual services?

Because tiling is a manual, in-person job, it is not typically considered a remote project. But if you come across a profile that states the tile company is offering remote services, ask them what those services include.

Can you tile over tile floors?

Yes, you can lay tile over existing tile floors (or a backsplash). Although it’s generally best to pull up your old flooring, you can simply place tiles on top if your existing floor is in good condition.

Before you start, examine your tiles carefully for mold, cracks or unevenness. Provided none of these is an issue, you can begin laying your new tiles.

But if this is your first time laying tile — or if you want to ensure that the job is done right — save time by hiring a tiling professional near you

What do you need to lay tile?

If you’re laying a new tile floor, you’ll likely need an assortment of tools and supplies, including (but not limited to):

  • Tile
  • Tile adhesive
  • Tile trim
  • Tile spacers
  • Underlayment
  • Sealer
  • Caulk
  • Level
  • Goggles
  • Gloves
  • Trowel
  • Carpenter’s square
  • Grout
  • Sponge
  • Tape measure
  • Etc.

If you don’t have all of the tools, equipment and skills necessary to lay tile in your home, consider hiring one of the best tile contractors in your area.

Can you tile over drywall?

Yes, it is possible to lay tile over drywall. If you’re looking to lay a tile backsplash in your kitchen, you can certainly do it yourself — but hiring a professional may save time.

Before you tile over your drywall, make sure the wall has a smooth surface with no bumps or cracks. Start by using a compound to seal up any crevices, then sand the drywall and clean up the dust. Then, lay a coat of primer on the drywall to get it ready for your tile.

How long does it take to lay tile?

Depending on the pro’s expertise, the size of the project and its complexity, the time it takes to lay the tile will vary. For some projects, it may take a few hours to lay tile while others will require several days of work.

When planning a tiling project for your home, get free estimates from the best tile contractors near you and ask them how long it would take them to complete your job.

I would highly recommend this tile installation company. Francisco and his team did a great job with a house plan that has many uneven corners. It was a little dusty in the house, afterwards, but the tile work was great.

I hired Chris to remove an old tile backsplash in my kitchen and put up a new backsplash. The old tile was on drywall which he was able to remove/replace very quickly. The new tile was up the same day and the job only took two days. I’m very happy with his work and would definitely hire him again in the future. His prices are reasonable and the quality of work was A+

The finished product of Marcus of Groutrite Restoration was nothing less than phenomenally excellent. Marcus took a dingy, moldy, filthy tile wall around a tub, installed in the 1950’s in a 125 year old home and brought it back to its original luster and shine. In addition Marcus is friendly, polite, courteous in addition to being extremely skilled “Master” in grout and tile restoration. As a result of this experience I intend to call on Groutrite Restoration to restore addition old tile bathrooms in properties I own. Simply superb!

Jack came out for me on short notice and performed an excellent job. We needed 2 bathroom floors, 2 tub/shower surrounds, and a kitchen backsplash installed. We had already purchased the tiles and prepped the surfaces for installation. Jack was prepared with everything he needed to install the tiles and completed the job fast. We collaborated on the final layout of the tiles and he recommended great choices for grout colors. Jack is an experienced professional tile setter. All of the lines are clean and straight with no ugly cuts or weird shaped transitions. A true pro who gets the job done right and fast. I feel comfortable using Jack on any project.

Chris did an amazing job finishing off my fireplace with a complicated tile selection on my part. He was very easy to work with and even went the extra step to run out and pick up more tile for the job. The finished work is beautiful and he completed it in just one day.

Ken was a hard worker. He set a price in the beginning and stuck to it regardless of all the new issues he found from the previous person who did the floor before we purchased the house. Originally hired him to just refill in the gaps in-between the tile, but his pure professionalism shone through when he discovered a bigger underlying problem. The person who did the tile before did a lazy job and it was affecting the whole floor in a way that would cause a continuous issue. He recommended a full tear up and relaying of the tile done the right way and we are very thankful for him working tirelessly on the bathroom into the night to get it back in business. As with any work, time will be the main factor of the quality of the work done, but as of now, I am a happy customer.

Marcus did a great job for regrouting my kitchen's and power room's ceramic floor of my rental townhouse. The flooring look day and night after he did the regrouting job. Also, he did a great job of replacing tiles that were either loose or broken. And when I mentioned additional work needed to fix a slightly raised tile piece (to prevent a kid from being tripped), he was gracious and very professional in squeezing in and completing this additional need for me!

Francisco and his colleague were prompt to respond and extremely professional. They had to re-do my bathroom floor as another Top Pro Handyman on Thumbtack did a poor job in installing my tiles. The handyman took advantage of my vulnerable situation and instead of guiding me installed tiles right over my bathroom plywood. They did this without installing any cement board or any leveling substrate. This is against any industry best practices and a complete no no, i am told. This naturally led to the tiles pulling out and not adhering to the plywood. As plywood expanded and contracted on the uneven floor. Unfortunately, I lost over $600 with the other Thumbtack handyman in labor, materials and the additional cost to demolish their shoddy work. When i reached out to the Other Top Thumbtack Pro they offered no solution other than recommending i use a Schliter Ditra membrane this time if i was re-doing the tiles. Francisco cleared the mess and now finally i have a proper bathroom floor. His rates were very competitive and they worked non-stop to fulfill the job commitment. Would definitely hire their services again.
