Art did a fantastic job DJ at our rehearsal and wedding. He is very accommodating and does whatever he can to help. We had a wedding that required a lot of different speakers and equipment and he took care of it seamlessly. He even brought his own quiet generator for our outdoor reception! Very pleased with Art!

We met with Ginny for a pre-wedding makeup trial. She was wonderful! She listened to us and then made us look beautiful. Ginny took photos and then had us send her pictures of how we looked hours later so she would know what to adjust. This was a very positive experience for us, and we are glad to know Ginny will be there to do our makeup and hair on my daughters wedding day.

Ree was such an amazing addition to my wedding team. She went beyond the duties of a hair and make-up artist and was there to support my bridal party and I through the day and make sure we felt beautiful. She listened to my suggestions and concerns and thoughtfully crafted the most gorgeous hair and make-up for me. I received so many compliments that night on her work! She did an amazing job for my mother, mother-in-law and bridesmaid as well. Everyone's hair held up well in the Charleston humidity. I highly recommend Ree for her artistry, passion and devotion to her craft and her clients.

Tommy and Becky are the freaking BOMB. They helped us customize a very simple menu for a rustic country wedding, and the food is incredible. I was sold in the first course. I'm so excited that they are able to be a part of the big day. Please hire them! You won't be sorry.

I contacted Rev. Ray Moore and his wife Karen the day before my wedding. My original officiant cancelled on me at the last minute and then I found From this Day Forward Wedding Services. We could not be more pleased with Jimmy's work. Our wedding had to be moved up a day because of Hurricane Irma, and Jimmy was able to make the time to come out and capture the magic that is Wadmalaw Island at dusk. He was respectful of our time, didn't pull us away from visiting and relaxing at the reception, but still captured wonderful staged and candid shots. His style is simple and very romantic, and he incorporated all of our favorite outdoor locations very well. I would hire Jimmy again in a heartbeat. He was an absolute joy to work with, and very kind to us. Thank you, Jimmy!

Bill and Keeli are fantastic. The questionnaire helped us plan our wedding day efficiently. Bill was great as our emcee and worked well with our photographer and caterer to ensure our day went smoothly. Our guests had so much fun and Bill made our nephew's night by playing his song request. Thank you so much for a wonderful wedding experience!

Kelly is an outstanding photographer. She did my engagement and wedding pictures. They turned out amazing. I wouldnt trust anyone else to do the job. For the wedding she got all the typical group shots, but then let me be a bride and captured other little parts of the day. She creates a relaxed, professional and fun atmosphere. I hate being in front of a camera, but with her I quickly forgot there was even one around. I would highly recommend her to anyone!

Win and Trivia were very friendly and listed to everything we wanted for our daughters wedding. Trivia acted as our event coordinator. I know it was a lot for her to handle but she did a great job. The food was excellent. My guest raved about the food. I will use Win-Win Catering to serve my future events.

Ruta was/is such a breath of fresh air and intentional artist in our wedding day experience. Getting an excellent wedding photographer was one of my biggest anxieties as I was a bride from the west coast planning a wedding on the east coast, and knowing most of my family would be experiencing my wedding only through the photographs taken. In addition, I was grieving that my niece who is a fabulous natural light Canadian photographer would not be able to attend and capture our wedding, so had a degree of skepticism while we explored photography professionals. Also, as the photographer follows you throughout the day in potentially intimate and emotional times, having a person(s) who you feel connection with and trust implicitly was so important to us! Ruta came alongside us on our special day with her assistant John. They were both a delight and knew their craft. Even when we were talking with Ruta in advance of our wedding, she made recommendations to adjusting the hours of our wedding to better maximize the best light we could expect on that particular day. We loved how she and her assistant just went about their work, but would ask and give direction as needed. The few photographs that we received (within a few hours of our wedding!!!) give us hope of a great portfolio to come. I love the use of natural light photography and have always been drawn to that art. If there was one thing I would suggest for improvement would be to have another person be around to make sure that collar points are where they need to be, hair is looking fresh, etc. as several of the photographs could have been improved with those details fixed. We would highly recommend Ruta and her crew. She's both a lovely person as well as knows her craft well. My niece who is a well-known and published professional natural light in Canada agrees that the photographs we've received so far are really great! You won't be disappointed! Thank you Ruta for helping to capture our special day that we had worked toward so hard for, in reality, so many years! You're the best and we appreciate you so much!

My husband and I got our wedding pics back shortly after we returned from our honeymoon. We sat in our room and went through each pic one by one. We laughed, smiled, cried, rejoiced and gasp in amazement for hours as if to relive our wedding day. I am so thankful to have found Photography by Leanor to capture our special day. We couldn't be happier with our pictures and the whole process of our relationship. Our memories will forever be cherished because of Leanor and her husband, Al.

It was a delight working with Emma. She went above and beyond to help capture our engagement moment and then she added a short impromptu engagement photo session on the end. She even enlisted the help of her husband and child to stand in and hold the perfect spot for the proposal. Emma is very professional, quick to respond, reasonably priced, and her work is amazing! I would recommend her to any and all for your photography needs. We could not be any more happy with our choice of photographer. We'll definitely be contacting her about our wedding photography in the coming months. Thanks, Emma!

My husband and I hired Adam to play music at our wedding reception on 9/8/17. He arrived early to set everything up. His set up was legit and professional and he even brought some cool lights to add ambience to the dance area. When the guests arrived he played instrumental jams as well as some well known dance tunes to get the party going. He was great at reading the crowd to provide exactly the tempo of music that was appropriate. HIs talent far surpasses many other musicians I have heard. He is professional, friendly, and easy going. His positive energy and likable personality will fit right in with any crowd. Adam is an extremely talented and passionate musician. If you are looking for a musician for an event, I would HIGHLY recommend hiring Adam. You won't be disappointed!!!

I highly recommend Lea. We had a change of plans twice the day before the wedding due to weather and Lea rolled right along with it like it was no big deal and all she was concerned about was us. Lea was very professional, but at the same time she is very personable, which made us sooo comfortable. She did our wedding pictures and they turned out awesome. She's the very BEST and you will be extremely happy.

I worked with Jessica for over a year to plan my wedding. It was such a blessing to find her because I thought I could do it all on my own and I realized quickly that I needed more help. Jessica has such a calm spirit...nothing seemed to ruffle her feathers. Some of the vendors I worked with were not as tactful as jessica and her team ...but she remained calm and professional the entire time! I will definitely be using her in the future

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
