Working with Jacob has been amazing. I've been singing on Youtube for several years now and while I've made a lot of progress on my own, I found myself at somewhat of a standstill. My fans would always say I had a great voice suited for ballads, but anytime I would try to sing anything remotely powerful they seemed to find it lacking. I was skeptical about voice lessons, mostly because I wasn't sure if working with a teacher would be worth it when you can find all of this great information online without one nowadays. I thought my voice was just stuck like that and I couldn't really sing anything beyond gentle songs. And now? I wish I had started much sooner! Within three lessons I already felt a huge difference. I've only been working with Jacob weekly for a couple of months now and singing has gone from feeling difficult and stressful to being fun again. It's like I'm finding a completely new voice and it's so much fun to experiment with it and feel like I'm realizing my potential and singing properly. Songs I previously found impossible to sing are finally possible - even EASY to sing. The improvement was immediate. Jacob explains things in a way that's really easy to grasp and practice with, and we record every lesson so every time I go to record a new song I pull a lesson up and do the warm ups. My fans noticed a difference straight away, and now I'm getting a bunch of feedback telling me how much I've improved. For the first time in almost 200 uploads and a total of 16,342,345 Youtube views, people have started describing my voice as powerful. I finally have my confidence back, and instead of feeling like I want to quit like I did just a few months ago, I feel motivated to improve even further. Now instead of hearing a song and thinking 'I could never pull that off', I feel confident enough to give it my all, and I know Jacob will help me reach all of my goals. It's been amazing so far and I can't wait to see what's in store. I would highly recommend Jacob, he's a wonderful instructor!

Nathan has been teaching my daughter how to play guitar and she's enjoying his teaching style and learning a lot at the same time. She had never picked up a guitar before and so we had to sort of force her to start the lessons at first. After only a few lessons, she was practicing on her own and enjoying her ability to play pieces of songs. We have even joined in and had him teach us some things on the side after her lesson was over which he was more than happy to do. I appreciate the time slot he's given us since we work all week and don't come home until later in the evening. We are seeing great improvements in how our daughter plays guitar and she is able to even teach us a few things that she learned! Thanks Nathan!

I spoke with John today by phone to set up guitar lessons as a birthday present for my husband. He was easy to talk to and flexible as far as setting up lesson times. I'm excited to have found his help!

I took lessons from Caleb for more than a year. Caleb was always enthusiastic, always well-prepared, and always ready when it was time for our lesson to begin. He sensed that I was interested in (and didn't know much about) music theory, so he worked that in to the lessons. We always worked on music I was interested in, which made practicing more fun, and Caleb frequently recommended music and YouTube clips I might be interested in. My love for music--the act of making music--increased while I took lessons from Caleb. Studio C goes beyond just 30 minute lessons once a week. While I took lessons, students performed in at least two recitals, and in a "Pianorama" mass concert as part of the greater Nashville scene of musicians. Caleb goes above and beyond to offer the best learning experience he can. I would love to see Studio C expand to Rutherford County. Maybe a day a week traveling to customers in Smyrna and Murfreesboro would be possible as the business grows. The success of Studio C is clearly an indication of Caleb's outstanding service and passion for what he does, his commitment to his craft, and his intelligence as a business owner. My experience with Studio C was a very positive one.

Matt has been teaching my son guitar for 3 1/2 years now. He recently moved out of the area, but we have loved working with Matt so much that we have worked it out so that my son is able to do his lessons over Skype. My son isn't the easiest student, but Matt makes lessons fun & keeps my sons attention. Highly recommend!

For about a year I took voice lessons from Megan until I was unable to. The school of music through which she was associated called her “a gem,” and that was so true. Megan is a professional musician, classically trained, a performer, a natural teacher, vibrant and full of life. During our lessons she was fun and encouraging, a cheerleader and motivator. Warm-ups were technical, specific in its focus. There was always a clear explanation for the intent of these exercises and so it was a wonderful education. Instruction was visual because Megan always demonstrated; she was so easy to imitate and follow. She has a keen, knowing ear; always she could pinpoint any weakness in my voice and offered ways to correct. Besides rehearsing choir music with her, which was immensely helpful, I learned to sing a wide range of music including a 40’s pop standard and some very cool soul music. She gave me space and encouragement to try and embrace different genres of music. I now sing with more confidence and have greatly expanded my range and strength as a soprano.

Matt is my son's guitar teacher and band coach. Matt is awesome! My son and I adore him. Matt really connects with his students through an approachable style and great sense of humor. He is truly interested in their success. Matt is experienced, enthusiastic and creative. He helps my son choose the type of music that he is both interested in and that suits his playing style. This makes lessons fun and productive. With this kind of support and guidance, it is no surprise to me that my sons band won The Battle of the Bands two years running. Bottom line, Matt is a wonderful and trusting person and an amazing teacher and a mentor for my son.

After I retired I decided to finally do something I wanted to do all my life - learn to play the piano. Finding the right teacher as an adult isn't always easy - luckily Natalie was the one I found. She's just so intuitive about what would work to get you to learn, what you're thinking, and how you're feeling about it all. She makes learning piano fun and a collaborative experience - I use a combination of lesson books and easy piano versions of songs I particularly like. Natalie is supportive and kind, and yet gets you to learn what you need to know to continue on and get progressively better. What else can I say? You really couldn't find a better person to teach you. And she teaches piano, violin, and voice!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

    What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

    • Asthma attack
    • Anaphylaxis
    • Burns
    • Choking
    • Diabetic emergencies
    • External bleeding
    • Heart attack
    • Poisoning
    • Neck, head or back injury
    • Stroke
    • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
