Tutoring for my son on the subject of pre-calculus has been provided since September. He is doing very well now. Mrs. Alexander's explanations succeed, whereas the high school teacher's do not.

Tutor Revolution is absolutely fantastic!!! I have worked with Ashley and her team for about 5 years. Ashley has helped both of my sons during high school and still today for various reasons—STAAR, ACT, College Writing, Science. The success my boys have received from her academically has been phenomenal but the long-lasting confidence she has instilled in both has been life changing. I even have one child who is extremely dyslexic and after researching many programs and tutors, my son could not have received more outstanding results especially with standardized tests and STAAR! As a parent, Ashley has always valued and respected my input as well as willing to try new things and make adjustments for what is best for my sons’ learning. Tutor Revolution is the best of the best with making a difference and is by far the best for children.

Keith joined our "team" 2 years ago and as much of a cliché as is the following, it has been a fortuitous acquisition indeed. Keith is incredibly professional, he is intelligent, soft-spoken, kind, respectful, a team player, always willing to lend a hand, punctual, patient, and regardless of our student demographics, he has a way to reach each and every child with his great understanding of his subject which allows him the freedom to try different avenues when a child gets stuck. My little girl needed some help with math and Keith didn't hesitate to offer his expertise. She left his room after a short time with her body more relaxed and a grin of pure satisfaction. She isn't one to gush about people but she gushed about Mr. Jackson, "I learned more from him than I have ever learned from my math teacher in school." We love Mr. Jackson for a multitude of reasons and any child, or parent, would be blessed to have this man help your child learn.

I started tutoring with Keith around 6th grade, and was taking math lessons all the way through high school. I was initially falling behind and hated doing math homework. Keith explained the topics well, and had me solve many math problems on my own to make sure that I really understood the material. As my parents requested, he always left homework for me so that I could have a chance to practice. With his help, I made a lot of progress and was enrolled in Honors and Advanced Placement math classes in high school. I began to really like math and also became a member of the Math Team at my high school. I think Keith is an outstanding tutor and I highly recommend him.

Sandeep is an excellent tutor and a patient guide! I was preparing for both GRE and GMAT (I was deciding between attending grad school for my Masters in Economics and business school for my MBA). I was scoring at around 55th percentile (GRE) and 60th percentile (GMAT). I wanted to score above the 90th percentile in both. Sandeep and I worked hard for 6 months and I finally scored in the 92nd percentile (GRE) and 91st percentile (GMAT). Looking back on what I achieved working with Sandeep, I'm stoked!! Sandeep also helped me with grad school counseling -writing my graduate app essays and also with interviews. I have been admitted to several schools (Stanford, Purdue, UT Austin, Northwestern, Kellogg and Booth). Now, Sandeep is helping my younger sister with her high school classes, improve her SAT score and with her undergrad apps and essays. Sandeep's hourly rate is worth it! Work with Sandeep, follow what he says, work hard and work smart (he'll tutor you according to your needs, give you awesome tips to improve your score and ask you thought-provoking questions to write a unique, revealing and attention-grabbing essay). After my experience with him, all I want to say is thanks dude!

My experience with Mrs. Willis at Christian Cottage Prep changed my life for the better. There was alot of work every day in subjects like math and English, which felt cumbersome at the time. However, now I am in highschool and suddenly I'm the kid everyone is trying to copy off of. It's difficult to fail with this program because Mrs. Willis gives you 1 on 1 attention with every lesson. Even if you fail an assignment, she will tutor you on the side until you completely understand the material on it and she'll even let you make it up. I'm not going to pretend that there werent days I finished my homework and didnt see the sun in the sky. But thanks to all that work in Algebra 1, I have a better grasp in math class and I dont have to strain as hard as others do to understand what my Pre Cal teacher is saying. I also have to give Mrs. Willis credit for my PSAT scores, the colleges that saw my PSAT scores and are still blowing up my email, and that my writing skills are above 98% of Juniors nationwide. Thats not my ego talking, thats what the PSAT said. My ego would tell you I'm above 98% of seniors world-wide. Christian Cottage Prep is a prepratory school that left me well prepared for highschool, college, and life. And while Mrs. Willis wasn't my favorite teacher, she was the best teacher I've ever had.

An EXCELLENT experience! My son was struggling with math and did not think he capable of mastering high school math. I was tutoring him as much as I could with a full time job but we were not making progress and he was not grasping the theory and ideas. He truly wanted to do well and excel but I did not have the necessary teaching skills. I spent two days researching and reading websites and comments. I somehow came across David and his wonderful wife Cara. They are truly delightful. My son has been meeting with David for about 6 weeks and his skills have improved dramatically as well has his confidence. He will be fully prepared for the SAT and beyond. I could not be happier with my sons improvement and his confidence level. He is really enjoying learning Math!

I am a senior in high school and was taking the class AP Physics C. My teacher at school did not teach the lessons very well, so I went to Mr. Lee for tutoring and help with physics. He tutored me about an hour two times a week. When I went to Mr. Lee for tutoring he clarified, corrected, and went in more depth on the topics I learned from my teacher at school. Sometimes I would have a test the next day and just call him to have a lesson that night to review the unit.

I went to Sarah for help with my personal statement for graduate school applications. She was so knowledgable, kind, and helpful! A personal statement, as the name says, is a very personal thing to write, and she made me feel at ease with sharing about myself throughout the essay. I loved working with her so much, I kept going back twice a week until we thought it was good enough. I got into graduate school, and she's partially to thank for it!

Honestly can say this is one of the best tutoring & test prep companies I have come across. They are cost effective and create unique lesson plans for my kids. The owner, (Chris) assigned my kids to a great tutor (Michelle) who did an excellent job of assessing where my children were at in their academics and then creating a curriculum that centered around their weaknesses. After a few months, I have seen a noticeable improvement in their academics, confidence and attitude towards reading & writing. Thank you PST, you guys rock!

We are not in it for the money or the fame. We put our money into the stuff that matters like educational materials and not in a fancy place or fancy advertising. The low-overhead keeps the tuition low so we can pass on the savings to our students. We are here to help our community, our hometown. With that said, we differ because we care. We have dedicated ourselves to helping everyone receive the help they need to succeed in life.

          Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good math tutor?

Math home tutors are available for any age student, from elementary school to postgraduate studies. Rates will vary based on the tutor’s background, education and experience. To find a good math tutor, first determine your learning goals. Do you need help understanding and completing homework assignments? Are you preparing for the math portion of a standardized test? Next, read reviews from current and former students. Find someone with proven success helping students achieve their goals. If you want help on an ongoing basis, decide what your budget is and identify the tutors who fall within your range. Ask if there are additional fees for travel, as some home math tutors include travel costs in their rates and others charge extra. Ask about session length and the tutor’s teaching style, and whether they also offer online sessions or group sessions. Finally, schedule a single session with each of the math tutors you think are best to see who is the best fit.

How much do math tutors cost?

Math is a subject that’s challenging for many students. Fortunately, home math tutors can help students excel in math by working with them in focused one-on-one tutoring sessions. The cost for math tutors varies based on the type of math, the expertise and experience of the tutor, and geographic location. Pricing may range between $40 and $100 per hour, depending on the math subject. As a rule, the more complex the subject matter, the more the math tutor will charge for the lessons. The cost reflects the math tutor’s advanced studies and the work required for them to be able to teach on the subject. Frequency can also affect costs. Students can buy packages of lessons for a lower cost per session than buying individually. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a geometry home tutor is $50-$60. The national average rate for an algebra home tutor is $40-$50 per hour. For generalized math tutors, the national average ranges between $40 and $50 per hour. More intensive standardized test prep studies and math tutoring average $70-$100 per hour.

How much does home tutoring cost?

Investing in home tutoring is an investment in your child’s future. Home tutors work one on one with your child to address their challenge areas and provide room for intellectual growth that may not happen in a busy classroom. The cost of home tutors depends on multiple factors including where you live, the tutor’s background and education, the subject matter, and how often the tutor comes. Test prep home tutoring is typically more expensive than single-subject tutoring. Here are some examples of average tutoring costs:

          • National average cost for an algebra home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
          • National average cost for a French home tutor: $30-$50 per hour.
          • National average cost for a geometry home tutor: $50-$60 per hour.
          • National average cost for a math home tutor: $40-$50 per hour.
          • National average cost for reading and writing home tutor: $40-$60 per hour.
          • National average cost for an SAT home tutor: $70 per hour.
          • National average cost for an ACT home tutor: $70-$100 per hour.

She's 14, has always been good at math. In the 6th and 7th grades, she had an excellent teacher, who told me at a conference, that she has a "math brain". She's starting to lose confidence. I want her to remember that math is challenging and fun. I would like her to be with someone who loves math
