If I could give 6 stars I would. Working with Leslie was so easy! Usually the breakfast/lunch part of our events is the most time consuming and stressful, but for the first time, I wasn't freaking out. She was incredibly prompt with quotes, answered all my questions (no matter how stupid), and thought of everything before I even asked. I'm always nervous about catering since I've had some horror stories with incredibly late caterers. Not them! They arrived an hour early, prepped, and we had an excellent breakfast. My office is notorious for being incredibly picky when it comes to food, and all I heard around the event was how amazing the food was and how friendly and fantastic the chefs were. This was a first for us! I'm afraid they're going to see a lot of us in the future, and I can honestly say that one of the reasons my event went so smoothly is due to Fabulous Affairs.

I host seminars on a regular basis, and the meals ordered from stores and restaurants are getting tasteless overtime. I found Karen on the internet and saw her background that drew my attention immediately. I decided to give her a try and see how it will work for my event. The results turned out fantastic! She showed up right on schedule, professionally dressed with the food I'd ordered. I was able to tell that it was the food I've been looking for just by the smell of them! The unfinished dishes were all boxed up and bottomed up which had never happened before in my seminars. I highly recommend Karen catering your meal if you are sick and tired of the food from stores in the market. Actually, I am hiring her again to cater my next seminar!

Planning our event in 2 weeks, I was afraid I wouldn't have a good choice of caterers. Laura was prompt and helpful in getting everything to me. Her staff was super friendly and kind. People raved about the food, which was delicious and presented beautifully. They left our house clean as it was and we even lucked out with a few leftovers. I would recommend Laura to my friends.

Hire her! Bon is amazing and her food is ever more amazing. Our family has used her services for weekly meals as well as catered events. Her food is so delicious. She picks the finest and freshest ingredients. My husband with a salt addict, salting everything before he ever tasted anything. Bon has him loving and eating food without salting first...EVER. She has been a great influence on our family. Not only is she a talented Chef but she is also a wonderful person. We feel like she is an extension of our family. We can't say enough positive things about her,

Dave catered our wedding recently and we were extremely pleased with the entire process from beginning to end. We came across him because my wife had gone to a wedding he catered last year, and she swore it was some of the best BBQ she'd ever eaten. I thought this was a slight exaggeration and that she was just being enthusiastic, but once we got the opportunity to try Dave's food -- nope, she wasn't kidding, Dave really is amazing. Everything from the brisket to the sides were perfectly seasoned and made with affection, yet they all had a personal twist. It's not just good middle-of-the-road BBQ you'll get anywhere, it has its own identifiable personality. We got the baby back ribs, pork brisket, beef brisket, vegetarian gumbo, turkey, slaw (which I usually hate, but loved Dave's version -- no mayo!), corn, beans and potato salad -- the last was brought for us as an on-the-house surprise. Everything was great, though I think the all-stars were the ribs and pork brisket. Our vegetarian friends were wild about the gumbo and, by the way, all of this tastes really great as leftovers even three days later. Dealing with Dave was also a pleasure. He's a nice, easygoing guy who knows what he's talking about and tries his absolute hardest to make sure everyone gets an exceptional BBQ meal. Highly, highly, highly recommended. Made our wedding.

We had Troy cook all the food for our daughters' wedding and he did a fantastic job. Our meal was brisket, potato salad, barbeque beans, and salad. The brisket was exceptional and we got a lot of very good comments that it was the best they had ever had. Because we live out of town he brought his smoker to our house and started the cooking early the morning of the wedding which was extra special because really enjoyed his company along with his helper. I would recommend him and his crew for any occasion. Lynn and Dawnya Pierce

Euro Pizza was awesome! We limited the menu to pizza only - won't be doing that again, because the pizza was super tasty, so I can't wait to try their other menu items! Going to have them at next event - the residents gave super high marks for food quality, taste and service! And the prices are reasonable, especially considering taste and quality!

Michelle was superb catering a taco bar for my son's Eagle Scout Court of Honor. There was a wide variety of choices for building tacos, and she also provided portions of "nonspicy" meats at my request. Anything I asked for, she immediately said she could accommodate. She went over and above in service, the presentation was beautiful, and the food was absolutely delicious, with very generous portions. Thank you for helping to make our son's event a special celebration!

I cannot begin to say how accommodating and patient Eric was throughout the weeks leading up to the wedding. I am not the best responder to text messages or phone calls, but Eric was a champ! Prior to the wedding itself, he was able to help us find a DJ in our price range! The only piece of advice I would give someone was to maybe line up the details of what you expect to the "t". What we got for our tasting was amazing - it was pot roast. It was even delivered all the way out to the boonies where we live, but on my wedding day, it didn't taste the same (still was delicious though), and it wasn't as roast-y as you'd think. It was more soupy and the meat was cubed, not sliced or chunked. Not a big deal as no one complained about it, but I had a certain "vision" for my wedding meal. Despite this inconsistency, I would definitely recommend using Eric for any catering events. The value, responsiveness, and patience that Eric brought to my event was impeccable and top notch.

No hard feelings but the truth is they have lied when they claim to be gurus in bringing the taste of authenticity. We don't have to lie or claim because we don't do authentic meat, veggies and spices or breads, grains and pulses in the land of melting pot, where your friends, family or neighbors, coworkers and strangers come from a faraway land that we use to read or study in geography during our school days. They all know what meat or vegetables, spices and breads/grains/pulses are. Preference of taste buds is about the only difference. As diversity, we are, but all, in a melting-pot university dreaming to give a perfect end, which is to change for the better and more than better. That is all we do with food; it is to change for the better and more than better to keep harmony among diversity attending you events. We are not big companies doing all kinds, who knows whatever for everybody. One by one as remarked in our event calendar is the way we do it to plan it right for you, and after all when your guests ate it all, ummm what's the right word? Modern day and way of saying it, yeah -- food orgasm! You just made the history among your invited guests for they shall always talk about you.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

    • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
    • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
    • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
    • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
    • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
    • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
