RB Contractor Inc. finished our basement project that included drywall finishing, shower installation, bathroom flooring and wall reconstruction. Remberto and his team did a tremendous job of finishing the drywall, taping, mudding and sanding. The team also custom built our shower with tile and put in the tile flooring as well. The completed job far exceeds our expectations and Remberto and his team were professional, timely and did an amazing job. We highly recommend this company for any basement remodeling/finishing.

Brandon Construction was very reasonably priced and the quality of work was excellent. I was so impressed with their professionalism and prompt service that instead of one job, I had them completed seven different jobs ranging from hardwood floor replacement (3 rooms), widening doors, opening a wall to add counter space and painting. All works was done efficiently - most within one day for each job. When I had to select materials (granite/ flooring, etc.) they recommended vendors that have quality materials and knowledgeable staff as well as reasonable pricing. Every step of the process was easy and the results were amazing. I am so pleased!!!! I would highly recommend them for any home improvement needs. They are really great to work with.

I researched many vendors before selecting Hernandez. They were able to complete the work in 2 weeks, not 2+ months like the larger companies. Also, their price was about half of the quotes that I received from Long Roofing and Thompson's Creek. The work on a large house and shed roof was done in a day in a very professional manner. They took care to protect my bushes and swimming pool from the old shingles. They did a great job of clean up too. They didn't make me sign an exclusive contract like Long Roof insisted upon and didn't require any money up front. Roof looks great.

What a pleasure to work with Steve and his crew of Caliber Roofing. He was one of 5 that responded to my request via Thumbtack. Over the phone, he gave me rough number for budgeting purposes, which was very helpful. After he came by and before the sale, he told me what carpentry needed to be completed beforehand (hired Steppp One Services LLC through Thumbtack, who also did an awesome job). Signed the contract the Friday the 22nd before Christmas. Materials were delivered by the supply company at 7:23am today, Wednesday the 27th, and his crew showed up at 10:10am. They installed what is essentially a new construction roof, cleaned up, and left in less than 3 hours - the receipt is time-stamped 12:43pm. Pretty much watched the entire installation and am confident that they did a quality job using quality materials - upgraded underlayment, membrane, drip edge, GAF lifetime architectural shingles, ridge vent, etc. They also installed flashing kit for 2 Velux 24x48 skylights, plus dealt with a 4" step-down of the roof surface.

So thankful for Harriford Restoration. Our experience was seamless from initial contact, estimate, and completion of work. Before and after photos were provided with all questions answered promptly. We were very grateful that a company would come and do a repair when so many of the big name companies were only interested if we needed a replacement. We highly recommend Brandon and his company for your roofing repair needs.

We reached out to several roofing companies, all of which never showed up for their scheduled quote. Bill came out right away to check on our roof - even though we couldn't be there in person - and sent us a prompt quote based on his findings. He was very responsive and his team came out to do the work quickly after the initial quote. When rain pushed back our repair by a day, Bill's team worked in the dark to make sure the job got done! And his price was much more reasonable than other ballpark quotes. Would definitely reccommend!

Erick and his crew did a great job on our gutter repair. The contractor we had hired before them to replace the roof and gutter did a terrible job with the pitch of the gutter and water ended up pooling in the gutter. The previous contractor was difficult to reach and we were facing issues with water spilling out onto the front of our house and soaking the brick. We finally decided to reach out to find someone to repair our gutter. Erick came out the next day after we messaged him with his crew. They then completed the job very efficiently and professionally. The cost of the repair was reasonable. We ended up hiring Erick again to help us with another roofing issue that the previous contractor caused (they didn't seal the sides of the roof correctly so we had water in our ceiling!). We would hire Erick and his crew again. They did a fantastic job.

Excellent service! I have used A&A Services LLC a few times. Quality and professionalism. Recently with all the wind we had locally my roof took a severe beating. I spoke to the owner, explained my issue and he was able to handle it the very next day. I will definately continue to use this company. I appreciate the honesty and responsiveness since I personally have no experience in construction / roofing.

Mr Kirsch arrived on time. He was prepared. He came to give me an estimate however, he found the problem and repaired it on the spot. I thought he'd have to come back. I've put him in my contact list. He'll be the first i call if i have roofing concerns in the future.

We required a complete roof replacement on rowhouse in downtown Baltimore City. I got 3 quotes, and Liberty came in directly in the middle. I ended up using Liberty because of their 12 month same-as-cash financing option which made the unexpected project easier to swallow. Pete was prompt and professional throughout the experience. He was upfront with me that there may be extra charges should the subdecking need replaced. A portion of it ultimately did, but he was willing to negotiate with me which was appreciated. They even found identical skylights to replace the old dilapidated ones that were probably several decades old. They were in and out in 1 day and I'm confident the quality of their workmanship is what they advertise. Would highly recommend.

Out of the 4 quotes I received for my gutter cleaning, repair and replacement work, Roofing solutions had the most detailed estimate. Mr. Stevens was punctual, communicated our requests to the letter, and performed excellent workmanship. Due to the small nature of this job, he personally came out to complete the work, and I could not be more satisfied with the results.

Most of the contractors i called first on thumbtack who had been with you were busy and could not come for weeks. Then i saw Tommy Construction LLC was on and i called them. More Rain came and it was too wet for any contractor to come and out of the blue the first clear day Tommy called, i was home and i showed him where the leak i was told was coming from, in looking at it he came to pass through a sky lightroom and saw more damage than the others did . My daughter works in NY state and is marketing director of Hudson on the Harbor and works with construction supervisors in her position. She from NY and me with Tommy from my home did a three-way and Tommy and she negotiated a price and he had brought his staffers too and she said Yes he seems professional ' knows the job needed to get done. Do it. I was totally impressed with his knowledge and he later sent my daughter through text 45 pictures of the work completed which my daughter was very impressed with as her condos she sells are over two million dollars. Tommy then sent me the written receipt for the insurance company and i highly recommend Tommy to anyone who is having roof repair. Honest with integrity is what i look for first. He has all. Very nice owner and staff were quick and cleaned up well. i highly recommend him. Gloria p Goldman Columbia Maryland

The experience of hiring NOVA Exteriors, working with the appraiser, and having the roof done quickly and as promised was a seamless experience. After many weeks of rain, the roofers were able to install the new roof quickly, and it looks great! We also have peace of mind knowing that their work is guaranteed, too. Will definitely check with NOVA Exteriors again for future remodeling projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
